Yep, LOTOJA tops out at 1000 riders. Last year I spent a couple of months on the waiting list before getting on. I still haven't registered for this year. Found out the registration didn't open until 1 pm. It's now after 1 pm and no sign of it being opened yet.
Any luck finding a lottery winner, roguedog? :p
DrBee, my youngest in in K. Now that's when it gets weird.
wow, kindergarten for the fry!! that is amazing!!!
auntie k - good luck with lotoja!!
I just had the most amazing polenta from a restaurant snap introduced me to. oh yum!!!!
I don't want to hear about good food - I had easymac for lunch. Oh yummmm...not. I can still taste that OJ we (me and MP) had when I was in SF and the fantastic food at The Slanted Door (me and BikerZ). I'm hungry!!!!!! At least I live in a place with good food now :D I know it's been 6mos, but I'm still grateful!
reaching for chocolate....must stttttooppp.
Did somebody say CHOCOLATE???
I'm all out of my stash of chocolate, and I think I'm DYING!
Must...find...chocolate....
step away from the chocolate!
Pssst... hey! Over here! I just bought a "pound plus" bar of bittersweet at Trader Joe's. C'mon over! I haven't even opened it yet.;)
knot your not helping.
I made homemade chicken soup for dinner. Afterwards I had a giant mug of dark hot cocoa....with 6 big marshmallows piled on top! :p :p
A square of Trader Joe's chocolate in a mug of hot rice milk makes mighty fine hot chocolate!
MmmmmmMMMmmm. Chocolate. Resistance is futile. MMmmMMmmm.
Cadbury EGGS!!!!!!!!!!! YUM:D :D :D
Just had one tonight. We have done really good this year about not buying them as soon as they were available (and I work at a pharmacy with all that stuff out).
MMMM.... Just remembered the break and bake cookie dough DH bought. Yippee! I deserve comfort food. :D
Mr. Bee is out doing overnight sampling (fisheries work), so it's just me and the munchkins. It's tough to watch Planet Earth (which they requested) when there is a constant "what's that" and "why" coming from the nearly 3 yr old! Aargh. And the pup has cornered the cats and is barking/baying her little heart out. Ah, how peaceful. Knot - I could use that chocolate NOW! I have 2 bars of Ghiradelli bittersweet in the pantry. It could be a pantry raid sort of occasion.
Cadbury minieggs are my favorite. I've already inhaled one bag this year so far. Must get more. We had a conversation about cadbury eggs last year, I recall.
I had polenta for dinner. I think it has crack in it. It's my new favorite food. I may get fat.
But I can eat less of it than of chocolate.
MP - if they start calling you by name at Aqui I'm going to get worried!:D
Dark chocolate M&M's are my downfall! :p
E. Guittard semisweet chocolate 61% cacao all natural couverture chocoate wafers for baking and eating.
that's my crack.:D
but i can stretch it out for weeks and weeks.
then DH comes in and eats half in a sitting. so... I hide it.
"George of the Jungle" is one of the greatest movies of all time!!!!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Poor DH. I've been doing pretty well in the kitchen these days, but dinner tonight wasn't very good. I feel bad for him.
Only solution - chocolate (sweetened with beet sugar of course).
Time for a shower and tandem mala on the mat. (thank you for the mardis gras beads, beth!)
Hugs & butterflies,
~T~
Fine, thanks a lot everyone, now I'm off to the store to reload the chocolate supply (which, by the way, will be hidden from everyone!) :D
My list:
Cadbury mini eggs and Lindt truffles (milk chocolate variety, thank you).
Mmmmmm.....
Hmmm...I just realized that I don't look like my avatar anymore since I got my hair whacked off last week.
Maybe it's time to start looking for a new avatar? Great, one more thing to worry about!
Ok, off to the store.
How much ketchup qualifies as a serving of vegetable? (Can you tell the state of my nutrition lately  )
Hershey's Dark 100 calorie bars to hide in my desk. I always think I'll just eat one, but I eat more.
DS#1 bought me a tablet of Lindt Blueberry and Almond noir Myrtille Intense for my birthday. I have kept it intacta for several days. (Medal of Valour in the post as I write!)
Only for the anti-oxidants of course!
I know we've created a 4th drift (ladies! you're like herding cats!) but I think I'll just continue to do what I do, drifting entire threads here and there by pointing out strange and/or troubling factoids.
...but not too strange.
...and not too troubling. ;) :D
Drift:
Imagine TE: the RPG.
I'm a lvl 5 Drifter with 1957 exp.
+3 int
+2 wis
+3 cha
-2 tact
I think I got nerfed, though =P
maybe I should re-roll as a paladin?
Back from the store and have happily stashed my chocolate supply. :)
On the way home I saw this bright red, really sporty sports car convertable being driven by a georgous blond...who was picking her nose!
Ewww...what makes people think that just because they have climbed into the driver's seat and shut the door that they are completely invisable to the rest of us?
That last post took away any budding desire I had for chocolate.
I suppose I should thank you?
Just lost my appetite!
How about simnel cake then instead of the chocolate? Or is that just a British thing?
I really ought to make mine tonight.
Bron
BikingMomof3, I just peeked over at the BJ forum (where I am proud to be one of the many Thread Drift Warriors - we try to make the subject headings stupid-sounding and I suspect people know who we are and avoid us ;)) on the "2500 mile race" post and saw your name on it... how's that going?
Ha! I forgot all about BJ. :o My computer died and with it all my links and passwords. Anyway, my biking is not going well. :( I hate the trainer, but I need to regain balance before setting out in traffic or even around other riders. My balance has been difficult to regain. On the upside, my running has greatly improved. :p This shall be the spring and summer of relearning bike skills.
Thank You for inquiring. :)
Simnel cake is traditionally made for Mothering Sunday but most people eat it at Easter now. The 11 balls represent the Apostles (minus Judas) but some people put 12 on to include Jesus.
Well, here is the recipe that I am going to try tonight. I'll have to see how it matches up to my Mum's.
The amounts are all given as weights, if you use measuring cups, then it will need converting, if I have time later I can try to do the conversions.
Bron (hooray, I can drift too :D )
Ingredients
110g/4oz butter (or margarine, but not the low-fat stuff)
110g/4oz soft brown sugar
3 eggs, beaten
150g/5oz plain flour
pinch of salt
½ tsp ground mixed spice (optional)
350g/12oz mixed raisins, currants and sultanas
55g/2oz chopped mixed peel
½ lemon, grated rind only
1-2 tbsp apricot jam
1 egg, beaten for glazing
For the almond paste: (Marzipan) or you can just buy some decent quality marzipan).
125g/4oz caster sugar
125g/4oz ground almonds
1 egg, beaten
½ tsp almond essence
Method
1. To make the almond paste: place the sugar and ground almonds in a bowl. Add enough beaten egg to give a fairly soft consistency. Add the almond essence and knead for a minute until the paste is smooth and pliable. Roll out a third of the almond paste to make a circle 18cm/7in in diameter and reserve the remainder for topping of the cake.
2. Preheat oven to 140C/275F/ Gas 1. To make the cake:cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Gradually beat in the eggs until well incorporated and then sift in the flour, salt and spice (if using) a little at a time. Finally, add the dried fruit, peel and grated lemon rind and mix into the mixture well.
3. Put half the mixture in a greased and lined 18cm/7in cake tin. Smooth the top and cover with the circle of almond paste. Add the rest of the cake mixture and smooth the top leaving a slight dip in the centre to allow for the cake to rise. Bake in the preheated oven for 1½ hours. Once baked, remove from the oven and leave to cool.
4. When you are ready to decorate the cake, preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 3. Brush the top of the cooled cake with the apricot jam. Divide the remainder of the almond paste into two; roll out a circle to cover the top of the cake with one half and form 11 small balls with the other half.
5. Place the circle of paste on the jam and set the balls round the edge. Brush all the top with a little beaten egg.
6. Return the cake to the preheated oven for about 10 minutes or long enough for the almond paste to brown.
Thanks Bron! :)
Good morning Ladies! It's sunny and chilly here this AM. Mr. Bee and his dad are putting up our fence today...and tomorrow...and the next day... Yippee!
I bought more Cadbury minieggs yesterday. yummmmmmmmmmmmm.
Sorry, but I just had to start everyone's day off with a notion of chocolate. I would just be wrong not to :)
