I had a great time (now that it's over)! I really had no idea of how fast I could do such a short little distance, so I went in without a goal time. I ended up with a chip time of 14:42, gun time of 14:55, and 4th in my age group! And I finished 202 out of 1560, overall.
The (somewhat) disappointing thing is that I absolutely could have been faster. I only glanced at the course map, and thought the finish line was 2 blocks further down the road than it was. So instead of really upping my pace for the last 3 blocks, it was only a 1 block kick.... Still probably wouldn't have ended up 3rd (she was nearly 30 seconds ahead of me), but I for sure would have broken into the top 200. Oh well. Putting it in proportion, last year I thought about doing the race but didn't because I wasn't sure I could run that far...
We had bagpipers at the start line, prizes for best costumes (the kid dressed as a leperchaun was especially cute), and lots of men and boys running in kilts. Maybe it's weird, but I find reasonably fit, good-looking guys in kilts to be incredibly sexy....
