this'd make a nice team jersey, wonder if SusanO as a team discount we can take advantage of? http://www.teamestrogen.com/products.asp?pID=23089 Too bad the Team Estrogen logo isn't a little bigger.

Tri clothes or training or the thought you have to remember to pack everything you need. Or maybe transitions...those are always a happy obsessive thought :D
I was SO tired last night I had to keep double and triple checking my entry. My initial birthdate was 1062. I know I'm old but not *that* old :o
I stayed up too late, and then was too excited to get decent sleep. Yup, I'm already obsessing...
But I've only checked the registration confirmation *once* in the last 6 hours... is that a good sign?
Edit: Seattle is still open. (I just had to click that link again, dontcha know)
I checked mine and then checked those people who I knew their last names.
Cause, you know, just want to make sure we all get in :D
Congrats on getting in everyone!! What a team. You definitely need team jerseys and even if I'm not doing it I might have to come up and watch. What's the date again?
Getting an "internal error". I figure site is either jammed or reg. is closed. I will persue REI. Gotta go!
August 17th (Sunday) is the day. Support team is always welcome!!!!! There's nothing greater than hearing cheering as you go by (even in last place:D)
Let's see -- other things to obscess over, Teigyr.... getting into that d***ed wetsuit! That's a big one! (ha... big, get it!)
Jes
I just registered.:D It kept giving me an error too Quillfred but I kept going back on screen and submitting it again. It finally went through but all during registration, I had to go back and then ahead on most screens. They must either be jammed. Keep trying and in the meantime, print it out and get it ready to post. Just in case.
Got in.
So will we get to start together? I am so green. I only knew first names.
Congrats everyone! You guys ought to start up a weekend training group.
Q, keep trying. A woman here kept getting the error because the servers were jammed/slow. Persistence :D
Ah yes, the wetsuit. Trust me, I got a complex the first time I tried mine on! Then I felt like a cross between a beached whale and Wonder Woman. It was kind of spiffy.
So I signed up for age group. Is that a good or bad thing?
Laughing and laughing at the wonder woman thought! Yes, that is what I will tell myself as I stand in front of the mirror the first time. OMG, do I have to wear this in PUBLIC?
Registration is closed now. Apparently it sold out by 10:20 a.m. PST.
that's easy...pack a can of no-stick cooking spray, i.e., PAM
(it really works)...I've volunteered as Danskin support a number of times (out on the road route/I-90 express lanes and at the swim finish), but it unfortunately conflicts my AIDS ride in NY state in August. I know you'll all have tons o' fun together though...and I still think that we could sell tix (hmmm, AIDS ride fundraiser ) if Wahine does a training clinic with this crowd!
We did good!!! How many people does Danskin usually get?
Wetsuits are nothing. Wait til you do a tri with men in speedos. Hairy men. With tummies
I can't believe it closed so fast! Anyone shut out should head over to the post office. If your entry is postmarked today they will honor it.
Yay, Quill and X and jesvetmed!
I registered mixed age but then was advised by an experienced friend that mixed age is HUGE and I should change it to my age group, which would be the 50-54 group, since the group size is much smaller and more manageable. Happy to hear advice/thoughts from the rest of you on this...we can change groups up to two weeks before.
What a nutty day. One of my teachers ran frantically into my office today around 10 am saying "I can't get through, I can't get through to register in Danskin!". I think it was school district internet blocking. The librarian finally figured out how to bypass the blocking, just in the nick of time. Then I went to a 1 pm meeting with another tri teacher who'd just gotten a freaked-out phone call from her friend, who had waited a few hours to register and by the time she tried, it was closed. Boy, what a PAGEANT this whole thing is. That's why I think it'll be fun. Phew.
Since Nanci and I are engaged in an ongoing email contest which we call "who looks more like Jabba right now?", I think I will win the "oh my God I have to be in public in a wetsuit, the horror, the horror" contest. But I would feel stupider if I let that stop me from doing something I think I can do so...onwards. And outwards (wetsuitwise)!
I kinda like the way I look in a wetsuit, from certain angles. (from others, well, not so much)
So, I tried to count, but I'm too tired after staying up late to register, then being unable to sleep due to excitement and hamster-treadmill-brain.
Are there 7 of us in Seattle?
Hamster-treadmill brain, I love that. So THAT'S what my problem is called...
7 is the count I come up with so far, also--includes X in Portland.
Oh, good, I can still count! Man, I'm tired. I'm really not good at staying up late.
Last time I did this, I think I started swimming in my wetsuit in Lake Washington in late May. It was darn cold, but by race day the water felt really warm and balmy.
Oh, dear, I gotta find my goggles....
And what do y'all think about having matching shirts? I really kinda dig the Team Estrogen Hill Slug. Red and yellow, it'd be easy to spot eachother out on the course. (it's likely we'll all be starting in different waves, so finding each other could be interesting during and after the race)
I like the idea of matching shirts. There will be SO many people, it'd be nice to be able to recognize each other from afar. I know by the time I get to the run portion, I'll be goofy and it'd be nice to not have to squint at people until they get close enough for me to figure out if I know them or not. Besides, we'll look stylin! My only requirement is that my stomach not show. I'm funny that way.
Salsa, if it's any consolation, it isn't the wetsuit that is bad. It's after you peel it off and you're wearing the tri clothes :D At least that was how I felt. I know some people dress comfier than others, I just wore tri shorts and a tri shirt so I was covered but it was almost kind of tight. I tried to put myself at the "I'm not fat" angle when I saw photographers.
I think this will be great fun! Now I wonder if some lakes get warmer than others earlier? I also really need to get my backside in gear with some swimming. I've been in a pool once or twice a week but I'm undisciplined and I'm sure I've become sloppy. I might go to a few swim clinics that are reasonably priced, if anyone wants to go let me know. I think most of 'em are on Sundays but parks & recreation has some masters classes during the week.
I'm going to have a bazillion questions...maybe we can think of an organized/efficient way for me to ask them, after I get a real night's sleep.
I think matching shirts would be great! I think we should ask Mimi if we could use one of her bike paintings as a design.
PS Does anyone know how many people they accept for Seattle, total numbers?
Wow is everyone in the NW here?
I'm sitting around waiting for the Chicagoland one to open up tonight... what time did the Seattle one start taking registrations?

Idealmuse, I got the msg at 10:20pm the night before it was supposed to open. I can't believe how quickly it filled up! Good luck with your registration!
Salsa, I have books and all sorts of stuff you are welcome to borrow. I think most definitely we should do a test run before the event. It'll be FUN, that is the most important thing!!! And after you get home that day and see the numbers written on your leg and arm, you'll feel tired and downright studly.
This just in from the PI online:
Danskin triathlon filled
Apparently thousands of Seattle area women (including a few of my friends) are very anxious to put themselves to the grueling test of swimming, running and biking on Aug. 17 (all for a good cause).
The Seattle Danskin Triathlon signups opened this morning, and they filled up within hours.
If I could swim, I'd do it. Good luck to all of the gutsy women who signed up.

Idealmuse-
I'm waiting for Chicago as well. Where are you located? I'm near Madison.
CSH - I'm in Chicago on the NW side. This will be my first tri it is a warm up (wake up call?) to the Chicago Tri Oly. Madison is great. I've been there but not any time recently.

Since I can't even find a wetsuit that would fit me (according to the size charts I've seen), I may not even have to worry about body-in-wetsuit-in-public hideousness. Heh. :p
I'm game for wearing a matching shirt, but if lack of size to fit me is a limiting factor, it doesn't bother me a bit to not be in on that. I'll just happily keep an eye out for everyone else.
Hey Dex,
How is your knee dear?
Dex, Knot told me about a local kayak place that rents big wetsuits. I will need one also.
I found NRS (Northwest River Supply, kayaking, rafting, canoeing) wetsuits to come in a lovely range of sizes and body shapes and nice low prices. I bought mine for I think $105 at Northwest Outdoor Center on Westlake. (kayak rental place) Comfortable suit, easy to get in and out of, plenty warm, easy to swim in (for me, and I putt-putt so I'll tell you right now the wetsuit is NOT the limiting factor in my swim performance!) *and* the added fashion statement of padded butt and knees! :D
Honestly? Not great. I saw a little bit of improvement early on in my physical therapy back in December, and then no real change since then. I kept doing my exercises and stretches, and I kept getting lectured/blamed by my PT for the lack of improvement. I ended things with her last week...it was starting to feel like an abusive relationship, so I jokingly tell my friends that "I broke up with my physical therapist."
I have the info for Knot's clinic, so as soon as I can get my doctor to give me a new 'scrip, I'll be trying again. Until then, I've made the decision to be active and just deal with the pain. The lack of activity has me in a weight gain spiral that I have to put a stop to ASAP.
Ooo...padded butt and knees. I can hardly wait! :)Quote:

CSH - I heard about that... must have been disappointing... although I'm sure some people were relieved. And boy do I ever remember the rain... my basement flooded!
Woo hoo! Chicago/WI is OPEN and I'm in!
Thanks for the heads-up, Knotted! However, I will see all of you lovely ladies at Danskin anyhow.... I am a habitual "swim angel" for the event for the last several years. The one swimming alongside y'all with a foam noodle! (no, I do not lash wayward swimmers with the noodle, I merely threaten :D).
Does this mean we can get together afterwards and celebrate? or before to carbo-load? Last year was so darn cold and rainy, so this year HAS to be beautiful! I am totally up for swim training this summer, as well.
trickytiger, you are invited to whatever celebrations happen :D And thank you for being a swim angel. The swim is my most challenging part (in fact you were very helpful last year when I had questions!) and I like knowing you're out there.
I'm open to swim training any time! Just say when and where (for anyone here) and I'm there. I love swimming but need to work on it more and sometimes the thought of driving to the pool or lake is daunting. Knowing I'm going to meet someone will get me off my backside.
Dex, I think you can find a wetsuit. If you don't, the alternative would be... Serious, I feel more "enclosed" in a wetsuit than I do in a simple suit or tri suit. I found a wetsuit at wetsuit.com. They're called Pro Motion and there is an online (I can give you the code) 10% discount. Mine was substantially cheaper than it would've been otherwise (not cheaper than Knot's, however) and I like it.
I would also be interested in matching shirts, with the above-mentioned requirement of covering the belly. It seems to have a mind of its own and I like to keep it well-tucked away.
I'm also looking for company in open water swims. I have weird schedules (ie, work a lot of weekends and overnight) but if someone is available I could meet somewhere. I'm north of Seattle by an hour or more, so something on the northside would be excellent.
I'm also looking at buying a wetsuit -- likely I'll go the sleeveless route. Need to try some on first. So until then, open water is out for a bit (besides... bRRRRR!)
Glad there are so many of us... it will be nice to see friendly faces (or friendly jerseys) out there as I stumble through the run!
