speaking of LL bean... i got a catalog from them in the mail yesterday! the splash on the front is "free shipping"... i meant to look for a coupon code... will do that and post it for those of you/us that don't have an LLbean card! (they had some cute sweaters and jackets and vests in there!)

Thanks now I know another reason why I dont wear low cut jeans. Yes I will admit it Im a mum jeans type. After having three kids in my mid to late thirtys the old stomach isnt what is use to be. I couldnt wear a shirt long enough to be sure that no poor bugger got a glimpse of my belly (I have my own body art its called stretch marks) and I think the really long shirt would probably rate as a fashion no no anyway. Having three boys Im constantly called upon to perform all sorts of duties including ones that put me in a most unglamourous pose. So even though I may be committing a jeans sin I will stick with a slightly higher waisted pair of jeans. :)Quote:

My problem is I don't have a waist. At my skinniest (105 lbs.....I just heard jobob gasp) I looked like a boy with breasts. Now.....well, never mind. Let's just say if I get pants to fit my waist, I've got enough fabric around my hips to build a tent! :eek: Back to WW on tuesday....

Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic pants all fit similarly, but I always wear a size bigger at the Gap and Banana Republic than at Old Navy. In addition, Old Navy's sizing is all over the place - I have pants in sizes 10, 12, and 14 that all fit me about the same. I actually have some 10s that are bigger than some of the 12s.
Ha! that sounds just like the sizing at House of G. :rolleyes: Erm, I guess that's a bit of an obscure reference for a bunch of non-Kiwis - Glassons is a NZ women's fashion store very popular with 14 year-old girls and a reliable place for finding a cheap pair of black pants for work for the rest of us.
I find this discussion fascinating. My problem is that I am short!!!! Has anyone noticed that in the last year that petite sized pants are now longer? I have very few places that I can buy clothes at; mostly i buy on line. Ann Taylor and The Loft are the only 2 stores that I can walk into and buy something that fits. I thought i was going crazy, but I finally noticed that J Crew (where I order a lot of clothes from) now lists petite pants as 30 " and they used to be 28 or 29. I wear low heels or flats at work; they are in style for God's sake, and the 30" pants are dragging on the floor. I do not want to spend more money to have pants hemmed (especially jeans!) when I am buying pants that are supposed to be for petites. This is not an issue in the summer, when I wear capris, but here in Boston, those don't cut it all year round. Skirts seem to be fine, no change there.
I am an admitted clothes horse and don't mind spending money for them, but i would LOVE to be able to walk into the Gap and buy a basic T shirt that wasn't too long (even the extra smalls).
As for the low rise, I am about to turn 52 and I wear low rise pants; not the ultra lows, but the 2-3 inch below the waist ones. I think it is much more flattering. I do have some hip huggers that i reserve for weekends, but i won't wear to work, since I teach those impressionable 12 year olds! You have to wear the right underwear (thongs) and shirts of appropriate length so you don't get the dreaded "plumbers crack." I guess that I feel that being able to wear these clothes at my age is my reward for all of those miles on the road. I don't wear anything ****ty looking, in fact, i dress pretty preppy looking, but I don't want to look like a grandmother, either (even though i am old enough to be one....)
That's interesting - I'm short too (5'2") and have always worn petite sizes, and I've been finding petite pants that are too short for me in several places lately! Sometimes Ann Taylor Loft petites are too short, sometimes just right. LL Bean are usually just right, but I have to have them 28.5" or 29" inseam, nothing shorter. Land's End have been too short for me recently (28" inseam). I think the longer length you're finding in stores is due to the flare or boot-cut leg being in style now. Those tend to be worn with more of a heel and need to be longer as a result. I guess that's why some of the pants I've tried on have ended up too short lately - I need more length to accommodate a shoe/boot with a heel. It can be frustrating!Quote:

Her "before" looks are how I used to dress too, before cycling and a 15-lb. weight loss that resulted in needing a whole new wardrobe, much of which was purchased at Loft (with some LL Bean and Lands End thrown in for good measure). My old style was preppy to the extreme and very blah, frumpy, and definitely made me look fatter than I was. Now I try to dress more like her "after" pictures and feel like I look ten times better - and younger - even though I am in my 40s now and was in my 30s during the "before" phase.
