No formal Turkey trot for me.
Today's training schedule called for "speed work".
Conveniently, there's a high school 1.25 miles from my house with a track.
So I ran there, and did 3 intervals (0.5 mile work, 0.25 mile recovery) around their track, which I shared with about 2 dozen Canada geese!
Boy were they giving me the stink eye every time I passed them.
"Hey. You're squatting in my lane!" I'd yell. They didn't appear to care.
Left to run home as a few cars pulled into the parking lot and other runners got out.
Happy Thanksgiving all.
I ran, but not a Turkey Trot; 2.5 miles, easy pace.
5K Turkey Trot, 25:33. Not my fastest 5K, but not my slowest either. Second in AG, and considering I hadn't been training at all for the distance, I'm plenty satisfied. (I was tasting parts of my lungs I hadn't used in a while...)
Wow, considering that it takes me one whole hour to run my 5k (8km), thats pretty fast!
Couldn't get myself out to run yesterday so I just did a bit of rope skipping... so I ran about half an hour and 0 miles ;)
I did my annual atlanta half marathon. 1:49, not my best and not my worst. It was a new course, which was tough, but good. Then, I ate too much pie.
Did my 5k today in this years first snow.
:D
Yesterday I did the 20k that I (try to) do every Thanksgiving. It's on the trails here in the Salty City and this year they were covered with snow, lots of it. Some of it was packed down, some wasn't. So it was quite slow, but beautiful. And cold. 9F when I started :)
Nope...Brian had my little camera on a separate outing (which means I couldn't take it with me ) and it's a low key event so there are no photographers or anything. As in so low key that I was the 1st place woman in the 20k...but I was also the only woman that did the 20k. At least I wasn't DFL. Close, but not quite.
Wednesday, 6 miles at 9:20 or so miles. Resisting running outside in single digits until the forecast says I have no choice, so I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill. Thursday, 4 miles in the snow at around 20 degrees (which felt pretty toasty :p). I wore my new cw-x pro tights (thanks TE) which aren't insulated but I wanted to make sure they were the right fit, and an extra insulated layer against my skin. Also, got my FiveFingers Flows, wore those both days to test them out.
The experience of the Flows in 3" of fresh snow (on top of packed snow, or previously plowed sidewalks/paths - we've had about 4 days of consistent snow, some days up to 4-5") was so different than the experience of shoes. I could feel how slippery or packed the snow was and adjust my stride and pressure accordingly. I didn't feel nearly as disconnected with my feet as I do running in regular shoes in snow, and my pace didn't really suffer, definitely not nearly as much as it usually does. They are insulated a bit and neoprene on top ("like putting a wetsuit on your feet" my husband said) so they keep your feet dry, but they are chilly if you're standing on snow or ice and you're not circulating enough blood to the extremities. They also seem to be adjusting my pinky toes, they feel sore sitting around but are fine when you're moving.
Anyway, I had an awesome time in the snow, and so did my dog. I look forward to a winter of snow running if it continues this way. :)
Today was one of those days when the hardest part of the run is getting out the door... but after a few miles, and after turning out of the wind for a while, it all felt great. Ended up going 9 miles, then enjoyed a big bowl of oatmeal.
The unexpected sight of the day: just around the corner from my house, there was a guy on his bicycle negotiating price with a hooker. Never seen *that* before... it's unusual enough to see the ladies out working at 8 am...
A little miscommunication with my training partner had her on her treadmill today and me doing our 5.8 mile route solo. :(
Started out late - needed to digest the whole wheat blueberry pancakes I made us for breakfast! :o. Felt fine on the run, but afterwards, felt crappy - weak, tummy troubles, and dizzy. Major "grey outs" everytime I stood up. So I ended up dozing on the couch the rest of the afternoon!
