Yesterday I ran 6.5 miles of next Sunday's 9.4 mile Shamrock Run course. It's on a route I've never run, and I wanted to know what I was in for. This involved climbing the looooong hill up Terwilliger Blvd, then running back to town via Barbur Blvd. It was quite the climb, but I felt good doing it. I rarely run hills, do this was a big confidence builder for me. I feel pretty good about next weekend's race!
This morning, coach gave me hills repeats.
I did 8 x 1:30 2% 6.4 mph, then 3 x 0:45 at 2% 6.4 mph.
The intervals put me into the bottom of my Zone 4 HR.
Calves are definitely a little sore after yesterday's hilly run and this morning's workout. Feels good!
Completed a half marathon on 2/28. Was naughty and went in the hot tub after, instead of icing as advised. Paying for it, still. Tried to do five miles a few days ago and was miserable and stiff. No more running for a week. Thank goodness I can bike and swim. :) Need to have a recovery strategy for longer distances and not eat/do what feels "good" at the time!

A mile and a half barefoot both yesterday and the day before. Man, was I sore, in a good way. I know this is a little over-enthusiastic, but from the places I'm sore, the previously unused muscles and the imbalances, it sure feels like half the problems in my body come from shoes. Yeesh.
Had to put them on again today for my long run though. "Just" 15 miles, since I just got over that cold plus a busy week with no running and not too much sleep. It was plenty. Back to business now...
Concrete is not my friend. Ran a tad over 4 today downtown and now I feel like I ran 12, ugh. Gonna need to hop on the bike tomorrow to get my legs back to normal now. After I ran my long run Sunday that following Monday morning I went for a nice moderate paced road ride and OMG what a difference that made. My hips weren't hurting, no tender anything after the ride. I usually have sore hips after a long run like that. I just thought it was odd the bike seemed to help so much. Yay more reasons to ride my bike :D Who am I kidding, like I NEED a reason, LOL.
I think that bike ride helped me last Saturday..........at least it helped my state of mind. I was doing something besides running and it felt great and did help my legs. I did 4.5 tonight and my legs are healing I think. They aren't as sore as last week. Let's hope.
I think we're technically in the second week of March, but we're flexible ;)
Today I ran 4x 4-5 minute 'gentle' uphill repeats taking me up to my 'zone 4' or LTHR for most of the time. The first few I timed for about 4:15 or 4:30, while the last one I went up and over the hill I was using and it came out to more like 6:00. I think I can, I think I can! After the first one, I had to remind myself that this should hurt and to exert more effort, and I made it much farther on the subsequent climbs.
Next run on Thursday....
8 easy miles for me on Sunday. The weather was beautiful! I should have worn shorts.
Tomorrow I'm doing my long run, as my running partner will be gone again this weekend and we had to move it up. 14 miles. Ready or not . . .

REALLY should have left that concrete alone Tuesday... legs are still tweeky from that. Ran tonight but never did feel great, legs were eeky, creeky, tweeky poo! Gonna rest tomorrow maybe go for another bike ride. What a week! Thank God spring break has arrived, I have big plans to do nothing, and I plan to do as much of that as humanly possible :D And run of course...
3.5 tonight and still pain free... the patience has paid off. :)
Had a 25 km run on the weekend, which felt fine. Massage on Monday, then a spectacular (although really short) run on Tuesday night. Which is special because I always feel awful when I run in the evening. Then tonight I had a running date with a new potential running partner at the track. It was pouring rain and I had to go there directly after work so I was carrying a few things in my pockets, not my favourite set up. Anyway, she stood me up. Never showed up. There I ran, alone on the track in the pouring rain, carrying my phone in my hands.
I was not impressed.
The workout was fine though. But, as my husband says, maybe this will be the running partner that wasn't. :( (Our first date she canceled the night before due to an unforeseen event.)
