Sorry about Patches. I can definitely relate, as I had to make the difficult decision to have our Kitty put to sleep yesterday.
She showed up 4 years ago after a bear had gotten into the garbage, and I looked out the window to see this beautiful gray cat surveying the buffet spread out around her. Our neighbors had moved away about 10 days prior to her showing up, and we believe they cruelly abandoned her to starve to death. She was very skittish and her ribs were sticking out. I fed her, and she was here to stay. My SO hates cats, so it was difficult at times for him to tolerate all her normal kitty behaviors, like walking on his freshly washed car and hunting mice and chipmunks.
Kitty followed me everywhere outside, and spent hours sitting on the stone wall, just waiting for a juicy chipmunk to poke his head out. She would sit in the shade of some plant in my garden while I weeded away. She also loved to bound over the top of deep snow, leaving these bizarre "belly prints" behind.
About a week ago, I noticed she was pretty lethargic, and then she was digging at one ear. It seemed to be infected by Sunday, and I didn't see her eat or drink. By Monday, her eye and nose was runny, and she kept swallowing. She would still purr like crazy when I petted her. I took her to the vet, thinking ahe had an ear /respiratory infection, and was shocked to hear that she had a malignant tumor on the side of her head under her ear, a high fever, and was dehydrated. The tumor was inoperable, and she was in pain and suffering, so we helped her to pass on and leave the pain behind.
Pete will make her a beautiful casket today, and she will rest at the edge of the woods near our departed birds.
Even though she was discarded like a piece of cast-off trash, she was loved and had a good home with us for the last 4 years. I will miss her terribly.
Rest in peace, Kitty.
I'm so sorry to hear about Patches and Kitty. You can both take solace in knowing you made the last few years of their lives far better than they would have been. Hugs to you both.
Bambu101 - so sorry to hear about Kitty. At least you were able to find her, and get her to the Vet, and her suffering was put to an end gently. Cast off kitties do worm their ways into our souls. I'm certain Kitty and Patches have special places at the Rainbow Bridge.
I still look for Patches to come for breakfast, and listen for her to call to me. Silly little cat.
Bambu101-sorry to hear about Kitty as well. I think even if we have a dog or cat preference, we still love the furbabies and they do find places in our hearts. Thanks for opening your home to a cat in need and for helping her leave peacefully and with grace. ((hugs))
As many of you know, we lost two of our three long-time kitties this year, and have since adopted one rescue kitty, so we now have two 'babies' again.
I'm so sorry for your recent losses of your special kitties.
All of you who help abandoned or homeless kitties are heros.
So sorry to hear about Kitty :( . She had four years of love and attention she might not have had otherwise if you and your SO hadn't welcomed her into your lives. She'll have lots of loved and missed TE furbabies to welcome her over the Rainbow Bridge.
A couple of images from happier days- right now it is hard to move past the last few days, but I would like to remember her the way she was in the pictures:
Bambu, that's the way she is now. She's the grey goddess, gracing heaven with those gorgeous green eyes. I hope you find comfort in your good memories of this sweet feline.
Hi, Here are my boys:
Tiger a Seal Point Birman 10 yrs. old, Casper a Blue Point Birman 10 yrs. old, KC a Maine Coon 4 months old, and Sammy a Maine Coon 5 months old.
Hi, Here are my boys:
Tiger a Seal Point Birman 10 yrs. old, Casper a Blue Point Birman 10 yrs. old, KC a Maine Coon now 7 months old, and Sammy a Maine Coon now 8 months old and weights 4.5 kilos.
Here's my little "chunkybutt" Chloe after we finished the AIDS Walk today. She attracted a lot of attention from onlookers and participants. Fortunately,
she's not letting all of that attention go to her head. ;) :D And she raised over $300!

Maeve had her "easy button" and wart removed from her face on Friday. Vet isn't sure what the "button" is---I thought it was a sebaceous cyst, as she has several on her torso. This was hard and went the whole way down to her skull. Removed on an outpatient basis with a local---Maeve was a good girl through the entire procedure.
Vet thinks it's benign but she's never seen anything like it. Hopefully, it's just a calcification. We should have the lab results back later this week.
In the meantime, Maeve has a Frankenstein mark on her forehead---staples and stitches! Pictures are here: http://stormyptsisters.blogspot.com/. Looks like she had a lobotomy or came out on the wrong end of a bar fight w/a hooker!!
Paisley, our Boston Terrier, came with us to "Camp Folly" (actually, my mom's place on the New River in NC) this weekend and had a great time. She's still sleeping it off here at home many hours later! I updated my blog with some photos of her big weekend:

I don't know the exact day she was born, but I remember it was mid-September. So I'm calling the 15th Ruthie's birthday. I was trying to think of something special to give her other than her normal Greenies treats. One of my friends mentioned her cat likes cheese, and I remembered that's one of Ruthie's favorites, too. So I went to the organic grocer and picked up some local-made cheese. I think she enjoyed it.

Emma & Emerson, they are the bosses around here. Emma was adopted from the Humane Society, and Emerson we found as a kitten on Craigslist while living in TX. Emerson is a massive animal, he is the largest/longest cat I have ever seen (refer to bottom picture, cat to cat comparison) By the way, I normally make the bed, but he was so cute!
I think we know who rules NSandz house!
I don't even try to pretend anymore...I have no control. They are spoiled kitties, but they do bring us a lot of joy...when they aren't breaking anything...
I love kitties!
Here are some updated photos of my boy Toby. He's now 15 months and looking beautiful. The show picture was from 5 months ago.
What a gorgeous GOLDEN!!!
Janice, check out my trio of goldens (www.stormyptsisters.blogspot.com). The two youngest come from an excellent breeder whose dogs show and/or are hunter cert'd. Ours are companion pets---contract requires that they be spayed, which is what we prefer.
Are you still showing that handsome boy?
Margot---living up to her name, Stormy Point's Surf's Up (as in counter surfing)
Wow, this is old. Thanks for asking about them. The one on the left was a cocker mix, the other two were cocker spaniels. Unfortunately, all have died since I posted this picture and I now have two more elderly cockers, Ruby and AJ. I recently found out that Ruby has liver cancer, but she's doing well for now. Here they are begging for treats (Ruby's wearing a t-shirt.)

Love the picture of Toby smiling.
And the second picture of Margot? She has that look of "Ok, ya busted me :o this time but just wait until your back is turned..." :D
This is my dear friend, Tigger. He's 15. He picked us out at a no-kill shelter when he was about one. This is one of his favorite activities.
Yes, still showing Toby. I brought him home at about 12 months. It's very difficult to win shows against mature goldens boys (2-3 yo). He went back into the ring a few weeks ago and won both shows he was in. I will show him until he's a Champion then will start working towards his Junior Hunter title. You're little girl is super cute. What kennel is she from? Toby is from Birnam Wood (www.birnamwood.com). Oh, and here is Hayley...all 13 years of her. She's still going strong like a 5 year old.
Janice - One golden isn't enough, eh? You're so lucky to have Hayley so long. She looks healthy and happy. We lost two goldens, Maud (11.5 yrs) and Agnes (8.5 yrs), to degenerative myelopathy and cancer, respectively.
Fiona and Margot are from www.stormypointgoldens.com. The breeder is just fantastic, does all the health testing before she breeds any of her dogs. In addition to the hunter and show titles, she has several of her "kids" certified as therapy dogs. Margot's parents are Stash and Shelby Lynne, both of whom are on the website.
Please keep us updated on your goldens' adventures. I'd love to hear more about the show "life," particularly from the Golden perspective! Best wishes to Toby in his next event.
another Shiloh pic.
The first three I adopted young--1.5, 3 months, and about 5ish. All three died within 2 years of each other, and I got pretty good at dealing with old, sick cocker spaniels (kidney disease and cancer), so I adopted the two current ones, who were both about 10 when I got them (both within the last two years).
I'm thinking next time I might go for one who's 7 or 8, but some sad story about an old dog will probably get to me and I'll end up with a senior again. I used to do cocker rescue so I have an "in" with them, and the adoption process is easy.
DB - A dear friend of mine has adopted two cockers from Oldies But Goodies cockers. She does one at a time, and currently has a sweet girl named, Ivy. Cocker folks are great people!
Our cats- the tabby is Marcel, the white one is Clawdette
Hi Mick,
Your little girl has some outstanding dogs on her fathers side. Her great-great-great grand father was the first golden to recieve the highest tracking degree awarded in the history of goldens. His name was Bret (Am/Can CH Golden Pine Dustrax Maverick CDX TDX RE OS CGC Can CD) and lived a long, fun filled life (just died recently at almost 14). I know his owner and met Bret many times. That was one incredible golden because he did everything. And her pedigree from the mom's side is even more impressive. BIS, BISS/AM/MEX/AMS/WC CH Sheffield-Ducat's Spellbound SDHF,OS (call name "Strider") was probably one of the most honored goldens in the last 15 years. So I know her pedigree to some degree. Lots of her grand, great grand, etc. lived long lives. By the pedigree I can tell where she gets her great color...the Aspenglo dogs are lighter. Actually, your dogs pedigree leads back to Birnam Wood which is true for many. Interesting.
Janice
Janice - Wow, thanks! Jan (the breeder) told us that Margot's longevity pedigree was "awesome." We were very lucky to find Stormy Point. Margot's coat is extremely thick and curly. If she saw her, I bet Jan would be regretting her decision not to keep Margot for show/hunter! You should see her move on the leash. She took to it like a natural....
Keep posting pics of your sweeties.
Cheryl, what cute pictures of your 'babies'!
Clawdette- fantastic name! :p
