Yes. As a humorous story it's good for some laughs. But most hikers would tell you that he completely missed the usual trail experience/comraderie/culture that builds among long--distance hikers.Quote:

That book is coming out as a movie, and AT managers are starting to make plans to deal with the aftermath. There will probably be more trail use for awhile, as there was when the book came out. Not sure if that is good or bad.
Great pictures DebW! That is one of the major things I miss about the NE - the amazing colors in Fall. I used to do my research along the Appalachians (salamander work) and my fall field work was my favorite!
As for who will be "Mr. Mom" - both kids are going to the awesome Learning Center (totally NOT daycare) that we found. It's a great place! Even Fishfry will be learning french, counting, colors, shapes, early writing skills and all - at age 2! FishJr will be in her glory - the 4 yr olds were doing vowel sounds, continents, etc. when we were there on the house hunting trip! Finally, she won't be bored at school! She's excited - her last day of school here is today. It seems like she's looking forward to the move. We talked about her leaving her friends and such last night. She's handling it really well. I don't remember having that conversation with my mom during any of our gazillion moves.

Fishdoc, the little fish sound very bright. My Mom says that having smart children is a challenge but she wouldn't have it any other way. Both sibs, Duck on Wheels and Big Brother Duck showed some real signs of smarts early on. And then there's uhm, well me.

Snap, I am so sorry that work sucks so badly for you right now.
I had a lovely quiet night on call. Know why? Because the answering service had someone else listed as being the on call midwife!!! I learned this when I arose from my semi-restful slumber in the call room, ate my cereal, sauntered down the hall to the Mother-Baby Unit to do rounds on the four ladies who delivered yesterday, and greeted one of the docs.
Me: "Good morning, Ray".
Ray: (stares at me) "Did you know you have a lady delivering?"
Me: :eek: "Where?" (could be L&D, triage, ER)
Ray: "L&D"
Me: -------------->zoom! (you've seen a picture of me sprinting!)
Turns out she wasn't actually delivering in that moment, but did so about 50 minutes later. The staff had been paging the wrong midwife. A midwife who's out of town all week. The couple themselves had been calling the answering service, who'd been paging the wrong midwife! All's well that ends well, beautiful birth of a little girl, apologies accepted from me, and parents happy. Whew. Now you see why I'm a triathlete? Speedy transitions! :p
