Wow (((((((Pax))))))). Thinking of your brother and you.
gee, Pax, that sounds like that must be hurting!! my sinuses are hypersensitive!
Dear TE friends
If I told you I was considering joining an expedition that would take me to Mongolia, what would you say? Well, I'll tell you what my husband said: GO FOR IT.
I need help writing a couple essays; is there someone here that is good at that and would like to help me?
It's Steppe Ecology & Civic Media, with a focus on the Przewalski 's horse and the Pallas's cat. And i get to sleep in a yurt!
I'm with DH and say GO FOR IT! Sounds like an awesome experience, and you need some you time after all you and RD have been through.
While the content is not my area of expertise, I am happy to edit (it's part of what I do for a living).
SheFly
Thanks SheFly,
the content isn't the issue; it's these kinds of questions:
How have you translated professional opportunities, classes, or
life experiences into your work?
How do you think this experience will benefit your personal life, professional life and your community?
Not that it'll help - but the fact that you need a vacation, and have your mind ponder other things other than balancing a ill hubby, hospitals, doctors, and keep your own home in some semblance of order?
Back on your task - is there a link to information about the trip (goals) that could give us a hint on how to help you? Is this some grand social experiment? What makes delving into this area different that say, visiting villagers in Africa, Central or South America, or First Nations people in northern Canada/Alaska? Other than to us, Mongolia is about as far removed from anything.
Ecology and Civic media are two completely different subjects IMHO. I can grasp Ecology of the area and livestock management, as well as throwing in a predator. But Civic media???

Civic media as in we have to communicate with people to effect change.
It's in June. It's not a vacation, it's an adventure. Next week we are going to hawaii. THAT is a vacation.
ps will be sleeping in a GER, not a YURT.
Dear Mimi,
I know nothing about Mongolia, steppe ecology or civic media, or the horse or the cat. So while I can't be very helpful, I can be supportive: GO FOR IT!
Go for it!
Dear self:
NEVER leave another paper for this class this late again. If you insist, consider doing it on Tuesday night or Wednesday during the day. Classes from 10 to 7:45 on four hours of sleep will be fun...
Mimi- sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I would be happy to read and edit your essay if you want to email it to me- not quite so sure about suggestions to get started. I'm sure you have plenty of cycling adventures under challenging conditions that you can draw on to discuss- they must somehow impact your attitude, ability to problem-solve, patience etc in your work. Plus there is your artistic side.
Pax- hugs for the tough news on your brother. Is the condition treatable, or is it an inevitable progression to blindness.
thanks AZ, never thought of that angle!!
(((Pax))) Sounds complicated. I hope the chips fall in your brother's favor.
Thanks gals, it's a bit of an emotional roller coaster here these days.
