Stupidest Bike Accessory Ever

yes, it's been lots of fun. Summer is coming and we'll want to eat more smoothies. It was a bit of a hassle getting it installed (no one who lives in my house has the slightest mechanical aptitude); so we invited my son over to do the job. Then we all made smoothies!

the only drawback is, you don't want to put it on your main bike because then you'd have to uninstall it and reinstall it. Or drive that motor the whole time which might wear your tire out faster.

So between my smoothie maker and my solar panels, I'm feeling pretty green right now :)

Mimi, maybe you could ride "Fatty's 100 miles of nowhere ride" (there's a thread about it somewhere): it's a ride on the trainer or rollers for 100 miles. You could make a LOT of smoothies in that time.

She has ridden many many miles and will be home in a few days. We should be supporting our very own members on these ventures.

I don't know about you guys, but there's only so many smoothies we can eat!
The drawback to my bike smoothie maker is that we're all done in less than 15 minutes and that includes preparing the fruit to put into the blender!


someone here is complaining that good people have left this forum. That's a natural occurrence in forums. Some people go, some people stay, and some people (like me) post too much. that's the way it is; people move on.
It sure is great when we have experts on here; and we do, we have a frame builder, a bike shop owner (or 3?) and some fantastic bike mechanics.

Yet even these people are pushed to the limits almost daily with questions like "does this bike fit me?" "will this saddle work for me?"

There's a lot of touchy people lately. Maybe it's because it's allergy season.

I'm definitely not volunteering to do this - but if someone really wanted to, it'd be great if there was an FAQ on here that has links to threads on or discussions on does this bike fit or will this saddle work for me? Or if we set up a team estrogen wikipedia on women's bike fit.

I think that's already been done!

Whatever happened to those shearling saddle covers from the '70's. They always looked too hot and heavy for my tush so I never bought one for my bike, but I used to see so many. I always wondered what they felt like! LOL!

quadriplegics/paraplegics use sheepskin rugs to prevent pressure sores... So I'm assuming that a sheepskin cover would prevent saddle sores.

And if it's red, hold on to your wallet. Why do you want a bike? You have two really nice bikes. The Litespeed is speedy and The Flame is all purpose. Maybe you need a Downtown bike for times like these ;)

The surly's supposed to be my downtown bike! It just ended up a little bit nicer than what I was thinking. And it eats wheels. Do you want to see jah live? I could meet you downtown on Thursday, my rear wheel is repaired for now so chances are we could find a way to smash it up again.

*cough* I actually have 5 really nice bikes. the litespeed, the carbon bike, my marin, my mountain bike, and my surly. I'm actually good on bikes, I need to sell my marin - after I decide whether my carbon bike's gonna be a triple or a double 'cause it looks like the q factor on the triple's getting to me.

I only bought the litespeed 'cause I saw it come up used at a great price, and I'm thrilled I did, 'cause I love that bike and the geometry works better for me than the marin. I want to change the fsa gossamer cranks on the litespeed, but I've not managed to convince myself that I actually need to spend that money.

So hopefully I won't buy another bike ever again. For a while.

I'm trying to convince myself I need to spend the money getting fenders for the surly, because rain splatter sucks.

And I do have a weakness for all things red.

That's what the TE search function is for. There are just too many hundreds of threads and posts that have various questions combined about saddle fit, bike fit, WSD, frame size, frame material, reach, seat tube angles, sore butt, numb hands, etc, etc. No one could gather all that up and try to categorize it neatly- you just have to learn to use the search engine on TE if you want to read what everyone has written already. Most new people are search engine 'challenged' and/or they simply don't want to do the work of reading when they can simply ask the questions all over again!
I know I personally have stopped trying to answer the same newbie questions over and over again- it gets to be just too much. My favorite is the "What bike should I get?- I want a really good bike that'll last but I don't want to spend more than $200..."...usually containing ZERO details that might give a vague clue as to what kind of riding they hope to do or what kind of rider they are.

When I joined TE I had plenty of questions....but I read, read, read tons of past threads and many of my questions were answered and then some- even questions that I didn't know I had yet! ;)

No... I never find nice red bikes that fit for reasonable prices. *sniffle*

But 3 of them have red tires! 3 of them have red handlebar tape or grips.

2 of them are naked titanium, so I could powdercoat eventually, but that seems to be a shame.

1 of them is black, so I put red flame stickers on it.

1 is black with red lettering.

The blue one's getting sold. The best I could do with it was give it shiny silver tires & silver handlebar tape.

All I want is a red kayak, as well. But I just end up with shades of blue for those.

I do think the orange bikes on here are beautiful - Papaver's, yours' and whoever powdercoated their titanium seven orange. (I think it was a 7)

I think I could point to Sheldon brown's site and say it's quite possible to gather a lot of bike information up and summarize it neatly. It's definitely a huge amount of work, which is why I suggested a wiki, because various people could organize it.

Yes, TE does have a search function, and I've made extensive use of it, which is why I've never asked you guys what saddle to buy despite choosing the saddles I've bought based on recommendations from here - if I'm going to post a question on here, I've already done a search on here and various other forums on the internet looking for information previous to posting it. However, most forums do have a FAQ entitled something like "READ THIS FIRST BEFORE YOU ASK THE SAME QUESTION EVERYONE ELSE HAS". And the TE search function is lacking in some regards... If I'm trying to find information on TE, most of the time, I go out into google and use it to search the forums in order to try to get a more intelligent search going.

If you search on brooks saddle on here, you get 80 million threads that mention brooks saddle with information scattered all over the place... and there are 1 or 2 really helpful threads, but they are definitely hard for newbies to find. Especially newbies that in addition to being new to biking are also somewhat new to forums and computers, because I get that impression from a lot of the people on here.

Mimi told me you can never have too many bikes. One of my cycling friends says never sell your old bike -- it's like parting with your best friend.

So I have 4 bikes and I just put a down-payment on number 5.

The basement bike room is full -- no more bikes until I get a new house! A bigger garage is the best bike accessory.:p

I rode my old bike (the one I was planning to sell) this evening... It didn't feel like my bike anymore, just the new 2 fit so much better and are so much more comfortable.

I think it's time to find it a home with someone who appreciates it more. And it's blue. Blech.

well I was one of the dumb newbies. Im a little slow on web things ( its the ADD I think combined with utter exaustion). I had no idea whayt the FAQ was,to be sure.

You aren't dumb. There's nothing in the FAQ that says "search before asking questions." Some groups do communicate that in one way or another; others don't. I'd be very surprised if the people who run this group want the cranky attitude of old Usenet days. This forum is, after all, a marketing tool.

In addition, there's a section for "New Riders" which implies that beginners are welcome. Welcoming beginners would of necessity include welcoming beginner questions.

Searching before posting is a good idea; but there are valid reasons for asking questions again, and there is nothing that I can find in the FAQ that says "don't ask anything that might have been asked before." No one is forced to provide an answer if they don't want to, after all.

Driving in to my night shift tonight, I saw a cyclist on a busy street (Ashland, for those who live in Chi-town). Mid 20s woman, no helmet, no light, no reflector. Nearly invisible. I mused that the law in this town requires a headlight and a rear reflector, and wondered if she'd actually removed the reflector that likely came on her bike. She pulled up ahead of me at a stop light, and I saw that, in fact, she has a reflector. It's just hidden under the plastic bag tied around her seat post.

Made me think of this thread. :rolleyes:
