Show us your pets!

Here are my kitties exploring my then brand-new bedside table. Mira is the Siamese-type thing on the bottom, and Ri (short for Orion, but alas, a fierce hunter he is not) is on the top. He's very sweet, but kind of a wuss. They have two states: running around like crazy and sleeping. Most of my pictures are of them sleeping.

I got them separately, but they are only about 2 months apart in age. They're about 2.5 years old now. They still play like kittens, and do have their tiffs, but mostly they seem to like each other.

He does! Isaac has beautiful green eyes. Ri's are orange/gold...just like the rest of him. ;)

I love cats. Mine have never shown any interest in sinks, however. Ri has this love/hate relationship with water, and likes to play with the water dish until he splashes himself. Then he hisses and runs away. He might kill me in my sleep if I tried to put him in a sink...I might test this anyway.

Yes, Isaac does have beautiful green eyes. Ariel's are that pale yellow. A leetle bit spooky sometimes. Especially when she gives that penetrating, full-on stare, as in the picture! I think she's a very old spirit.

Isaac re-discovers running water occasionally, and it's as if it were the first time he'd seen it. "WHOA! Faucet! HEY! Flushing toilet! Cool, man!"

Last winter, my brother-in-law (who thinks I am an idiot for treating my dogs like children) built a set of carpeted steps so my two older dogs could still get up into their favorite chair.

peanut use to fit infront of my computer, then moved on to a chair, which she still thinks she can fit on, but she basically owns the love seat. casey curls up just like peanut does. maybe we should get them together.

If you don't have a handy brother-in-law, they now sell steps at Linens N Things. I have been considering them for our Maggie, but I honestly don't know if she would figure them out. She is a bit slow but we love her just the same. :p

Question about rats for Kitsune and TerraNik: How do you keep them from just running away, hiding in the baseboards, doing what rodents usually do?

Ooh, I'll play! This is Julie. She'll be 3 in October. She's the only pet I've ever had. We're getting a custom rack/basket made for her so the pic was for the builder -- Jos Ahearn.

Sticking with the bike theme, the second pic was when she was just a wee pup. The tricycle was mine from childhood and I found it when I went to sell my parent's house after they'd passed away.

Lise-
Our house is pretty securely made... the only hole we've had problems with seems to be one made for wiring under the kitchen stove, that just empties into a closet.

DGF says that rodents left to themselves will wander around the house, but generally come back. I don't trust it, but have no real reason to disbelieve her, either... she lets gerbils run loose, and they're maybe half Gebo and Shyguy's size!

G and SG live in a ferret cage, separated (they fought too much when we had them together, and it would've been quite expensive to get them fixed...) and come out every day for an hour or so to play. Gebo helps with bike maintenance (sleeping in my hood or running up and down my arms while I'm cleaning the chain, etc) SG is too neurotic to allow me to focus on anything else, but loves his play time, anyway.
When they're a little older (George and Steve look like just lil' bebes!!!) they get really cuddly. Gebo will just sit there sometimes like a furry potato and let me rub his neck, cheeks and ears, bruxing his head off.

Kitsune- nice rats! I've known a few pet rats that were GREAT, but I've only had mice and hamsters and rabbits, rodent-wise.

All of your animals are sooo cute....DH got tired of listening to me...but the ones he saw he got the 'thats adorable' look...he's a sucker...hehehe

This is Allie she is a Tortoise Shell Cat...she is about to be a year and 5 months. She is a princess as DH puts it. All our friends say we dont need kids cause she is our kid. We love her and she loves to go to mom and dad's house and play outside with the other animals, but she doesnt travel. She also loves to help DH work on the bikes...

Allie looks SO much like Tsuki, right down to the little patch on her chest and her little black nose. Aww...

Torties are so special- such a unique personality!

I LOVE all of your pictures! (and I'm so visual, I barely read a thing....except to know that someone out there is looking for a new bigger dog and isn't sure what breed. I will always recommend border collies. They are so cuddly!)

I haven't been around much to post lately, but I love this thread!! Pets are such an important part of our families; it's great to share their pics. They are all so wonderful!

Greenmachine....Allie does the same thing with drinks, except she always manages to knock them over! but she loves the milk after we eat cearel.

Kitsune....my last cat was a tortie also and they look identical...but they are very unique, thats what i love abut them!

Here are our girls. They are sisters - Missy on the left and Coookie on the right. We adopted them about 3 years ago after loosing our two other beloved girls within just 3 months of each other. Missy is very shy, but is the "boss". She's a "mommy's girl". Cookie, is super friendly and is a "daddy's" girl.

Sorry, but rabbits are not rodents. They belong to the order Lagomorpha. The difference comes down to teeth (they have extra incisors) and some other features. Rabbits are commonly called rodents, but they are not!

The little guy on the right is mine. His name is Max.

This is Alice, my 10.5 year old Newfoundland. She is rather petite at 120 pounds, but I try to keep her weight down because she has had 3 knee surgeries (born conformationally challenged). I got her as a puppy from the New England Newfoundland Rescue & Referral service. The owners of her mother had gotten a male and female as pups, and believed that if they raised them together they would not have to neuter at least one of them. When they discovered they were wrong, and a litter was on the way; and what they had gotten themselves into, they at least contacted the right group. One of the breeders took over the care of the expectant mom, whelped her and raised her litter. As soon as the pup's were weaned, mom went to be spayed before going back to the owner, who had already taken the male to be neutered. I got Alice on my 49th birthday, she was 30 pounds and 9 weeks old. She has always been a little goofy, and amazingly tolerant of my weirdness. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/newfsm...&.dnm=a821.jpg

This is Nina, a half-ruddy-Abyssinian/half-grey tabby. She is completely sweet-natured and happy, purrs like a big motorboat, peeps like a bird, and we adore her.

And this is The Beeper--a typical Siamese who yaks constantly and lives to be petted and to bonk you on the nose sharply with her very hard head--just as she is doing below. Note she is in her proper place between me and the keyboard. A total grande dame.

I just thought I would post my latest avitar photo since you can't really get the full affect since it is so small.. Its of my baby Zoe. She is a rat terrier. She does this thing where she "whines" for attention and I took her pic mid whine one day. She looks stoned!! (Not that I know what that looks like except from movies <quicksave>). But doesn't she have the cutest underbite???

Here are my boys:
1. Rottweiler Nelson (he is my baby! :) - 120 pounds
2. Red little dog - Cooper (we call him a Miniature Golden Retriver) - 27 pounds
3. Middle size and the youngest - Ramble - 55 pounds

This is Snoopy (age almost 5), she doesn't have a breed, she's just a dog. A friend of mine rescued her from a flee invested nest of puppies and has been with me her whole life. She loves people and other dogs as long as they are not hyperactive.

And this is Vlosje, my guestimate is that she is about 17 years old but still going strong. She is happy if she gets her food twice a day and can get her evening walk around the block.

This is Salem, who sadly has been missing for a week:( He is just under 2 years old and never misses a meal. We think someone may have stolen him as he is microchipped and so far - nothing.

Oh, Python, I sure hope you get Salem back. :( My sweet Ariel was missing for a week about 13 years ago, and I was out of my mind. A neighbor found her and brought her back to me. She's getting old, but still strong.

I love seeing all these animals--thanks everybody! CyclChyk, that picture of Zoe totally cracks me up. To me, she looks like a cranky old lady, complaining about something. And then to learn that was a picture taken mid-whine was perfect! She's adorable. Love your new avatar, too! :D

Cheri- I love Biggie in his costume. My DH does not let me dress up the dogs. Heidi does have a cute little Argyle sweater, but no costumes. :(

Aggie - yes, BF and I discussed the other day that dog costumes are solely purchased by women (probably goes back to the fact that as little boys, they didn't dress up dolls either).
This was from 2 yrs ago, and I honestly put the costume on, took the picture (when I could stop laughing) and took the costume off. Poor things' legs are so short, that the bottom part at the front kept slipping off and tripping him.

Cycl - a co-worker just returned from a trip to Italy, and brought me one of the foot long Toblerone's...I swear it's like 2 pounds. I am trying to only eat 1 chunk every few days or so. So good! And yes, Biggie Smalls' bat ears were perfect for that costume.
