Avatar - see it in regular or 3D?

What kind of glasses does the IMAX 3D use? The realD ones looked identical on both of the lenses and the screen looked fuzzy, so there's some kind of magic but it seems to be in making it fuzzy to clear not combining colors or anything. The RealD screen is angled and wider, but not tall like IMAX. Maybe the tall screen is the only difference? (I'm not going to pay $11 to find out ;))

I forgot to mention that supposedly it works best farther back, and the glasses DO fit over your regular glasses (my husband wears glasses).

OH. My eyes are totally dazzled. We saw it in the Pacific Science Center's IMAX theatre, 3D. Amazing.

I have the same problem. The violence in Holmes had the same effect on me, too. It seemed like an entire MMA fight through the whole movie. I liked the plot, but not the gross things always portrayed about Victorian England (dead rats). I did like the way Holmes was portrayed as some kind of eccentric super-genius, except with social skills. I wouldn't see it again, even on DVD, because of the fight scenes. I quite often had to hide my eyes.

Both IMAX and regular 3d are done with light polarization, but they were giving out different glasses where we saw it. I don't know what the difference was - possibly the IMAX glasses are bigger? Anyway either kind fits over regular glasses. We sat way up front (only seats left) and it was great.

We saw it in the RealD 3d - absolutely amazing. We may need to see it in the IMAX before it leaves. What an incredible film.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one!

Today's NYT has a story about 3D glasses. Saw it in print this a.m. & too tired to link...

We saw it in 3DImax and loved it! Great movie I thought!

I guess I'm in the minority.....it was OK, saw it in Real 3D, and have the headache to prove it. It was a very pretty film, without much of an original story. But then, maybe there aren't any original stories out there anymore?

I think it was meant to be an archetypal story, a common legend/theme sort of thing. Although as a long time sci fi weenie, I think there ARE still original stories out there. This just wasn't intended to be one of them.

It was Pocahontas with better special effects and without all the singing.

My dear saw it the other day in 3D and mentioned it was just another hollywood film and ok...

I want to see a heap of foreign films : The White Ribbon, Peaceful Times, Five Munutes of heaven, Amreeka, Max Manus

I've seen in 3d Imax and 3d. The Imax was not measurably better

Interestingly, they say the opposite is not true for left-handers. It doesn't say whether the effect really has to do with right eye, not hand, dominance.

The article says a fair amount of unconscious self-selection happens. I prefer to sit slightly left of center, and I'm right-handed but left-eyed. My optometrist says cross-dominance is much more common in athletes than in the general population.
