People are Scum

Sorry you have had this trouble yet again. It's one of my phobias. It would be terrible to know an intruder had rifled through my belongings, let alone stolen my stuff.

Has anyone out there thought of having a very loud barking dog sound (complemented by scratching toe-nail sounds) on a tape which is linked to the alarm system, so that it is activated when an intruder is breaking in? Perhaps I should patent the idea!

Hope the police manage to nab them and give them a hard time.

Our police have a car which is set up so that the doors lock as soon as the car ignition is turned. They leave the car in a public place with the keys in and a laptop on the back seat. Our small town recently had this car used by our local police and they quickly caught two people trying to steal either the laptop or both! Just imagine their surprise when they can't start the car or even get out of it!!!:D

Not again. Some people just behave unhumanly.:(

That set-up cars are called Rat Traps - very appropriately named.

Hmm, I thought of you on Saturday when my husband called to tell me that his truck had been broken into and everything in it, including his laptop, PDA, xm radio, son's Nintendo, all their clothes and their dirty laundry were stolen.
They were in Detroit watching the Yankees play the Tigers. They had been traveling for a week, with their bikes on the rack.

I warned him to take the bikes off the rack and put them under the cover of the truck bed when he parked, but that meant he had to take everything out of the truck and put it in the back seat. Arkansas tags, too far from home, truck full of stuff, downtown Detroit. :(

At least the bikes were safe! They had been keeping the bikes in hotel rooms when they weren't in the truck. Unfortunately, the travel schedule worked out where they couldn't get a room before game time--so they had the bikes with them. Sadly, Will lost his baseball glove, which had been signed by all his favorite college pitchers and many others.

I thought of you, Veronica, because I experienced all the feelings you described in the thread about the last break-in.

It really sucks. I'm so glad you had video. We have no hope of ever getting our stuff back, and all the hassle of keeping them from stealing our identities, too. Luckily, no financial info was on that laptop, so our money is safe--but I changed a bunch of things just in case.

I hope they nail the bastids in your case.

I try to remind myself that people who do these kinds of things are really missing out on the good parts of life. You can't have real friends or relationships when you're dishonest. Your family life probably sucks.

You know the stuff is just... stuff. It can be replaced usually. It's the relationships and memories that these people will never have that are important.

Yeah... I can think this, but I'm still POed. :rolleyes: Mostly, 'cause I just don't get it. I grew up on welfare, we had very little. It never occurred to me to steal other people's stuff. I come back to, what's wrong with them?
