Did you understand the flip the stem part? you turn it upside down so the the angle it up rather than down.
yes, both my bikes are silver (have silver on them) I'm a silversmith. I think that mine may be a later model than yours. It's silver with black and blue stickers/stripes.
me when I first got my trek 1000 in May 2005:

me with my Madone (really charcoal gray with silver details) in July 2007 about 5000 miles later:

You could just give yourself a little more time with the straps. I really haven't had any trouble with mine at all--I've only been using them since March. But I DID loosen them way up when I started out.
On my 1000 the pedals have a little dealy sticking out in the middle of the bottom of the platform which lets you turn the pedals over and slide your foot inside in one swift motion. I taught myself to use that right away, and then I taught myself that I would be pulling my foot backwards to dismount. So far, so good. ::::working spells to keep the jinx away:::

Silver, nice ride!!!
At first I didn't know if I liked the color. I was going for the price. It's really growing on me now.
I understand exactly what you are saying. I just don't know how or where you do that.Quote:

Lovely and Congrats on your good deal. ditch those pedals. I've got dual pedals, clipless on one side, platformon the other and have the clipless tension set loose so I can get out easily(several other folks on TE have this set up aswell I think) . Love the silver/red/ & black. Many happy miles. Jennifer :)
Hi Sandra,
Congrats on your Trek 1000. I just got one too, a 2005. The first thing I did was change the pedals out. I went clipless. I have never ridden clipless. Fell over twice and skinned my knee. I now remember to turn my heel out instead of trying to pull my foot off the pedal :)
Its one smooth ride isn't it. Many happy miles!

Silver designed the triathlon team uniform in the picture she posted above!
Sandra what a wonderful bike at the right price. Have many wonderful miles with your Helen.
Silver thanks for sharing your pics with us. You looked so spiffy in your classy trisuit. I love red and black.
I'm thinking that Sandra needs a Southern Indiana Tri Team uniform, it would SO match her bike!
Hmmmm....I guess I'm not exactly sure how to remove the stem from the headset. I'm guessing you know how to remove the handlebars from the stem since you did rotate the handlebars upward. When I got my new stem they replaced it at the shop. I watched......but I guess I wasn't paying enough attention.
BTW, your bike sure would look good with a red saddle and red handlebar tape when the time comes........just saying.......:D
Southern Indiana Tri Team uniform ~ CHECK
red saddle ~ CHECK
red handlebar tape ~ CHECK
:D
I need all of the above!!
Now, let's start with saddles. I'm guessing this is the saddle that came with the bike. Not the best.
A good red saddle? I'm ready for recommendations!
Oh yeah, the bike shop is open tomorrow and I'm off. Hubby and I are taking her in for some adjustments. Can't wait to ride again!!! Today it POURED! 3 inches in a very short time. We didn't get to ride. :(
that probably is the saddle that came with the bike. Actually I have a similar saddle (the same one) on both of mine. It's a very good saddle! I don't really have saddle issues. however, I am planning to try a lighter weight saddle. The one that I really want is .....SILVER...but it's $250 and I don't want to spend that much $$ right now. So I went with another black one that was less.
I don't have personal experience with this one but lookie:

sorry you didn't get to ride :(
Ok, that does it. I must quit clicking links on this site. :D
Nice saddle. Love the red.
