In my opinion, someone should just start TD2 in the long-ongoing-offtopic-conversations forum and then they could delete this aging monster of a thread and start fresh!
After all, our U.S. administration is sort of like a New Day- what about a fresh new day here too? :)

P.S. I find it ironic that there are so many threads in the long-ongoing-offtopic-conversations forum that are anything BUT long and ongoing. Sort of a George Carlin irony thing.

If'n you want to start a new drift, we could ask Susan and Jeff to lock this one. Then it is saved for "posterity" :rolleyes: I didn't realize the massive post counts would go down when the other 2 threads went poof.

Being home-bound has caused me to start watching some of the more bizzaro shows on television. Bridezillas anyone? :eek:

I taught a creative writing class in Newport, Rhode Island to a large group of people with severe spinal and brain injuries.

The first exercise I gave them was to sit in a circle and I would start a line of poetry and each person would add another line and we would go around in the circle several times to see where we landed.

Along about the third person in the circle started laughing and blurted out something that wasn't even remotely close to what had just been passed to her. The next time we came to her she dissolved in laughter again and gave another way "off base" line. By the time we got to her a fifth time we were all laughing to the point of peeing our pants.

It seems that she had a brain injury that had destroyed her short term memory. She couldn't remember anything recently said for even a few seconds.

To her is was hysterically funny because we had liberated her from HAVING to be on target. We all changed our underwear and went on with more creative writing.

man, I'm finally home. Pardes, i liked your story. People with short term memory loss rarely get a break.

That's like the time about 10 years ago when my mother called to say "Oh by the way, I forgot my memory pills over at your house, can you mail them to me?". :rolleyes:

Did a little 3 mile walk in the rain this morning, but too rainy to bike today.
DH is in the basement as I write, tinkering with my two bikes and getting them fine tuned and putting my rack on the 'grocery Rambouillet'. I'm so lucky and grateful to have a DH who can work wonders with bikes. :p

Now... if I can just keep picking up cat fur tumbleweeds around here long enough to successfully postpone vacuuming the house until right before Thanksgiving when my cat allergic older daughter is coming...... :cool:

By any chance do you know what those pills were called? I sure could use some:(

Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Made a batch of blackberry jam this afternoon, now that it's finally cool enough to do so. Snuck in the berries from the other pomegranite, and the last jar of gooseberry jam that set up like glue. Hope it's good, cause I plan to use the stuff for Christmas presents.

No memory pills lying around here either. Sorry.

I'm going to turn into a bowl of soup. I haven't had much appetite, so all I've been eating is soup.

yum, we ate charred (ahem) flank steak. The perfect thing after a 30 mile ride in the cool november weather.
lucky, it was only charred on one side. went great with the fat fennel and the backed potatoes

I make soup a lot, especially in the cold half of the year. Funny thing is I'm not really a huge soup fan, but I'm good at making it and my DH just loves soup, so I wind up making it often just to make him happy. I do love the fresh crusty bread from the bakery that I try to serve alongside it though. :p

Today was packing an old photo portrait I purchased at an antique store and the backing came off. It was a very nice watercolor of our City Hall. Perfectly cut in half:(

No one is dieting at my house, we eat well.

I went for a walk, too. Me and 6,000 of my dearest friends went for a very nice walk through downtown Seattle. I didn't take any pictures (yours are great, Fredwina) but lots of other people did. ;)

1pm to 2pm. Volunteer Park to Westlake. We were about 1/3 of the way behind the front, and when we reached Westlake the street behind us was still full of marchers all the way up the hill almost to Broadway. It was pretty cool.

wow, We were in that area at about the same time!
I am really sorry we missed that march.

I've been sitting in my easy chair since 8:00 a.m., trying to learn to KNIT SOCKS! My fingers are numb. I'm sleepy and hungry, but I think I've finally got it!

Raleighdon said we were on the wrong street, and going south while they were going north. But still.. :confused::confused: I dont know either.

Thanksgiving just RD and my sons and daughterinlaw.. and a haunted Seattle tour.

We would have joined the walk here in Portland but I was feeling my cold pretty hard this morning. For 3 nights, I only had about 3hrs of sleep due to coughing all night. Last night was better but it caught up to me hard. Still on the couch trying to recover. Having a glass of wine to ease the pain. :p

I've been looking online. The pics of walks in every state and other countries is pretty significant. Can't wait until the Jan followup. :cool: Civil rights in this country is a never ending struggle. In the land of the free, blah, blah, blah... we are still so far behind in so many ways.

Okay, off to sip some wine, listen to Janis Joplin and chill.:D

Karen, I have knit dozens of socks and mittens...they are my favorite thing to knit!
Unfortunately, when I took up biking/walking/snowshoeing etc I no longer had enough extra hours available in my week so I had to stop knitting for the past 2 years or so.
But I still love knitting....especially socks, on double pointed needles. I love making the toes and heels a different color than the rest of the sock..all kinds of wonderful color combinations. :)
I figure maybe someday if I break a leg or something I can get a bit of knitting done again. ;)

I assume my daughters were 'taking a walk' today too.

I started learning last winter, and I made one pair, and they were horrible. I still wear them, though!

There is only one yarn store within 150 mile radius of here, and they are quite pricey. So, I've been practicing on some cotton baby yarn. The result was a big big sock! At some point this morning, everything kind of went AHA, and I got right up and drove the 30 miles to the yarn store. Spent $50, and I've just finished turning the heel on the first sock. It looks GREAT. :)

All the patterns are so different. I have a book but I don't like the socks in it. Internet patterns for beginners are usually so poorly written, I could only go so far before they lost me with their assumptions. So, I've pieced some together and synthesized enough that now I've finally got it! YAY, me!

did you pay tax on that yarn? did ya know, in states that tax, if you say it's for making of clothes, it is tax free? (well, unless they tax you on clothes too.) otherwise, they are to assume it is for crafts and will tax. just a thought. :)

Both Uk Eliphant and Duck on Wheels knit. DoW does incredible things with yarn, beautiful stuff. Wish I had a picture of the sweater she knit for our mutual great nephew. :)

Huh. Think that tomorrow I'll try to post a picture of my Big Wall O'Yarn. You people who have been here, you know what I mean. This will assuage any yarn guilt of yours, SK. I promise.

If I didn't have to work, I'd go volunteer at a children's hospital and (when I wasn't crying) I'd teach little kids how to knit and weave. They think that sort of stuff is so much fun.

We went down to Northcliffe this weekend (it's about a 3 1/2hr drive south sw from Perth) for a fun 6hr mtb event. It's held at the Round-Tu-It caravan/camp park that has a mtb course :cool: &. Anywho, one of the owners is a wildlife carer & has a large group of wild kangaroos living on the property.

The roos are quite tame & I had a good look at thier claws :eek: paws, etc. The joey's have really small heads compared to the rest of thier body. Cute but hilarious to see.

One particular joey was out on a stroll with it's mama & was suddenly frightened. It just jumped head first back into the pouch.. How long the mama puts up with that is beyond me..:rolleyes:
