I really hate conversations about people's physical appearance.
My SO has two friends who make derisive comments like that very often, and it's gotten to the point where I avoid them. Both are successful professional people; I can't think what they are getting out of such adolescent nonsense.

My point, Roxy, wasn't just that it's all relative. Rather, that body image and weight issues come in all shapes and sizes and that it's probably better in the long run not to judge or make assumptions. That skinny woman complaining about her thighs might go home and purge or she might skip meals to punish herself. You just don't know. Just like she may not understand everything about you just by looking at you.

Indy, check out Brooks Brothers for coats.
I found a beautiful camelhair coat there last year. Very classic cut and style, it's going to last me many years. It replaced a black wool coat that I bought in 1996. It might be worth a look for you, because I think they don't change their outerwear styles too much from year to year.
Brooks Bros. is not cheap. But we lucked out because we were there on Black Friday, to find DH a new suit. We were the only people in the store and boy were the salespeople glad to see us! I had been keeping my eyes out for a new coat and here was one my size (in a color and style that I've been dreaming about since I was a broke 20-something a million years ago), and my mom was with me and she wanted to buy it for me! She has a dismal record with remembering to send birthday and Christmas gifts (not that I care), so I let her.

Point taken, Indy. Thank you.

Dear Microsoft Xbox,
Since you have now invaded my house via my husband, it would be great if you could put out a mountain bike game with really cool trails so I could at least pretend to be good at something. If you don't, I'll be stuck with games like "Battlefield 3" or whatever it's called being played all day long.

My mom's lung surgery is tomorrow, so am headed home. I may, or may not, have internet access until I get home - AT&T doesn't have good service there so I may not be back online until next week...please send good thoughts, wishes, and prayers her way.
-
Keeping her in my thoughts. Don't forget to take care of yourself, too.

(((Catrin)))

Dear Self,
Enough of the pity party, recognize why you are feeling this way and get over it. Little conversations in your head do not equate to communication
Dear foot, Please, please heal ten more days of the boot cast is more than enough
-
Hope all goes well with your mother's surgery, Catrin.

Dear idiot who threw a knife at a commuter on our bike trail last night:
You suck. I hope the cops catch you. I hope they can match the knife (stuck in his helmet) with the rest of the set in your kitchen. I hope they charge you appropriately.
Dear idiot who has been exposing himself on the same bike trail:
You also suck. I really hope the cops catch you.
Dear self:
Don't ride that trail for a while.
