Congrats, Queen! :D
Best wishes to you both!!! :D
Ditto from me
I especially liked the bit in brackets - wonder why?!
Congratulations Queen!
Congratulations Queen (and your honey)!!
So..whatcha doing to celebrate the big day?
Hey, did someone forget to pay the rent? How did we end up over here? :p
BMo3 - And just where were you when I was buying a bike yesterday? Yeah, that's right, talking to AG on my phone! That was an interesting conversation with the S.O. last night. Non-bikers just don't get it I tell ya. However, the bike is staying. Period. (Pounce is soooo sweet, Jen. We went out back in the woods this morning for a short, rainy ride. **tingly shivers** :D)
Hey Dar, I think your goal to lose weight before your next b-day is great. I agree with the ladies here on the advice given so far. I can see it if you only do the jump start of 1200 for one week but I definitely wouldn't keep that up longer. Personally, I would do about 1600 for myself for that period, but I know how my body burns. Yours may be much different.
Now, did I read that you signed me up for your race? I still need to see if I can get any days off besides my weekends (which I already have off).
Queen - Congratulations!! That is wonderful. So at 17 years, that puts you, um let's see, about 3/4 through the honeymoon stage by my calendar. Good for you!! :D
Deb - I just love your backyard. That hammock is so cool too. I really need to get one again and lay out under the stars. Not as much fun alone though. Jammy party at Deb's place. BYOH(ammock)
Ok, back to work. (I see sick people... and I'm one of 'em. ;))
Have a great day ladies and be safe.
I thought it was your month to pay.
Tell the good people the whole story for goodness sake.:p You said, "talk to AG", hand her the phone and while she and I are merrily talking you skulk off and buy the bike without even consulting me. I am glad you bought Pounce though.
Time to visit me again. I need to try a mtb out and Pounce looks perfect to me.
Snort!
No, no, no. When I called, I ended up talking to your DH because someone wouldn't cut her workout short by 8 minutes to keep me from buying a bike. Right then was when I was deciding whether or not to buy. I needed you and you were somewhere over there lifting your leg (or whatever). Then when I was paying for her, I handed the phone off so you two could talk face to face, so to speak. Pardon me for trying to bring people together in this world. :p (Yeah, I'm so glad she adopted me too. Sooooooo, when can we schedule another play date? ;)) So, I'm checking out some SPD's to put on, I've got a spare pump and bottle cage already. My shoes are compatible already. Now, I need to find someone to ride. (with) :o
Oh, btw BMo3, thanks for telling me how to get rid of my attachments. Much appreciated. I didn't know I could do that. All of the incriminating ones are now gone. There are somethings that do not need to be seen by the whole world for posterity. And now that we've been "outed".... hehe.
Shhhh. Talk quietly and act nonchalant. Maybe no one will notice us.;)
X- "Outed"? You? Really? Noooo. Not you and your new bike! Most sincere congratulations; I hope your ride was every bit as much fun as it should've been. :D Hope you had fun. :D Non-bikers just don't get it...
Bikerotica is only for us special people, what with the sexy curves and angles of Pounce's strong, light frame, the sheen and silken smoothness of her paint, the way her levers feel under your fingertips, and her grips in your hands... I can only imagine what' it's like to have that first ride on a virgin bike... to feel every little nuance, the slight differences in handling, posture, the soft dip of the shocks as weight is transferred back and forth... Crisp shifting and the way you can stand on the pedals and rock the bike to hold balance... Nothin' like a new machine between yer knees. :D
*shivers*
I love bikerotica. :D
Slow day today, and I'm glad. Always lots to do...
Congrats, Queen!!!!
(hmmm, hey hon, Wednesday is our 2 month anniversary... how far is that from 17 years?)
bikerotica. For me, it's lusting after bikes I can't have. I like my Bianchi a lot, but fickle soul that I am, I don't lust after it like i did before I got it. That's just like a man! I don't understand. maybe after a longer relationship, filled with give and take love will build. It's a strange deal,. My feelings increased when I discovered someone else with a bike just like it. FICKLE FICKLE FICKLE. It's my favorite bike, but how awful is it to realize that with a piece of plastic (credit card) my veloce would be speedily religated to the back of the garage. Even worse, several people have suggested that i pull the components off of it and put them onto a new bike. THAT almost makes me ill! What would I do with an old Veloce bicycle frame? Kind of like having your pet cat stuffed after YOU killed it. I am so confused, I need help.
The journey of a thousand years begins with a single step...
that said, phone and internet contact, then visiting periodically, eventually you may just die of exhaustion on one such visit.
...because driving and flights are rough. And travel. That's rough too. Death by Jet Lag. or something. That's what I mean. Really. ;)
Mimi - did you look into that Terry?
Bike Theology:
The bike's soul is in the frame, the components are like clothes or earrings or something. You can change them out or take them off, the bike is still "there" in the frame.
Sell or give the frame to someone, and you've given them the "bike." All you have at that point are components.
Now, which tube contains the bike's soul? If you have to replace a tube... say cuz you ran your bike on the roof-rack into your carport... have you changed the bike's soul?
Deep things to ponder while you are dosed up on Day-Quil, eh?
no. Not sexy enough.
Yes, these are definitely deep things to ponder! But you have to admit,Quote:

taking the components off a bike renders it, uh.. unusable? I hate to use the words I really want to say.
I think the bike/soul theology is the same as the human body/soul theology. The soul is beyond the physical bike itself or the sum of its parts. That said, you need a tube replaced or any of the components etc, that'd be similar to some kind of surgery or injury- in the end, still the same person, fundamentally; their soul is unaltered through the process. If something irreparable happens to the bike and it's no longer useable at all, it has 'died' physically, but its soul is free to escape and become part of some new bike getting soldered together at Specialized just this very moment.
Somewhere there must be a pagan biker version of Hoof and Horn that goes 'Wheel and Crank'... ;)
I felt bad this morning because I had to kill a little mouse. :(
We keep mousetraps set in the basement, because otherwise mice move in from outdoors and start breeding amongst all our belongings and boxes. Our cats don't go down in the basement (too much oil, dirt and toxin dangers), otherwise there would be NO mouse problem at all. Our cats keep the main part of the house totally mouse-free.
I don't use mouse/rat poison because 1)the cats might eat a dying poisoned mouse if they ever got hold of one, and 2) it's a way slower way more painful death than a mousetrap. I hate the idea of little mice crawling around in agony while they die from poison.
In the fall and winter, I find at least one mouse a week dead in my traps- their necks instantly broken. Very, very efficient.
This morning I was sad to find a mouse that somehow had survived this- had the bar down on his neck but was still very much alive. :( I felt really bad. I knew I had to kill him quickly to end his suffering. Just couldn't bring myself to smash him with something. So I had to drown him. :( :( :( I filled abucket with warm water, dropped him in trap and all, and weight him down with a flowerpot. I felt so BAD! Came back late to fish him out and toss him in the woods.
Mousetraps work GREAT and 99.999% of the time they work in the blink of an eye.
I feel pretty bad about it.
Oh, LIsa, I'm sorry. I would hate to kill a little mouse. I have had to kill two rats in the last few years. I felt bad about the first, but not the second.
I caught a mouse at my office a few years ago, took it in to show my boss (holding it by its tail) and then I let it go OUTSIDE.
Where are we...I'm lost! I looked in TD and...<poof> where'd he go...whered'd who go....
Deb: What CC said...can't wait to meet ya! Look me up next time you're in WC!
Dar: When I was first working with a trainer/nutritionist I was on a similar diet. It's not quantity, it's quality.... PM if you need pointers. FWIW, I'm back on the same with the same trainer and I've lost 3 lbs. this week.
Congrats Queen!
X: Pounce...I LIKE it! Can't wait to see her again (this weekend?) Now I just need to think of a name for Roy's Stumpjumper that will soon be mine....bwaaahaaha (he'll never know what hit him...I'm a pro at the Jedi mind trick. "You need a carbon frame MTB...give your MTB to AG" "Yes...I need a carbon frame MTB...I'll give my MTB to AG" you get the idea.)
Mimi: You need some serious bike therapy! ;)
I feel so... naked and exposed with TD moved to OT.... ewwwww.
uh, that would be 16 years, 10 months and 2 days to be exact :p ;)
So Queen, what's the 17 year anniversary? I forget the traditional one. But I think TE TD is the compact double anniversary :D
Lisa I would hate to kill a mouse, I'd probably put him in a portable mouse house and mail him to Nancy....or let him outside.
Oh, I don't know about this OT (non cycling) location, feels so...so...logical and like every one will find us here and not just the 142,215 people who've viewed this thread. I feel so....exposed.
Can't we hide again? Somewhere few go to, regional perhaps, put us in Asia.
I, too, would like to bemoan our move to OT. At least where we were before, there was a sense of privacy. A knowledge that if you found it, and felt like you could keep up, then you deserved the relative privacy and familial bonding of TD...
I thought, also, that we'd voted on a move earlier and decided against it?
Why???
Nooooooooo...eeeeeeee....
Please please move us back to a quieter space! I'm dazed and confused-which doesn't take much for a crazycanuck
pweeease?
Can anyone think of a logical reason to go to North America at christmas time rather than spring? I've thrown the idea to Ian but he's wondering where i'm taking him that's so secret & you can only do in Canada (so I lie..it might just end up being the F1 in Montreal) in the summer. I'll keep him guessing..It will only work if i delete the internet history when i go searching for indy/f1 tickets..;)
c
Be strong girls, change is good for the soul.
My ears itch. On the inside. Arrgh!
You could move us to Australia...Ya'll can try tim tams, vegemite & see pelicans on the light posts on the freeway!
c
we're up to 651 pages....
I hear that in Alaska there's room for a woman to spread out :)
and I'm having a Dove chocolate so I need that room.
All those in favor of TE TD II starting there say "aye", shall we just mosey on over? We'll leave a trail of tim tams for others to follow.....
I'm working on beed stew in the crock pot, guess I'll just see where we are when I'd done.
AYE!!!! I love the idea of moving TD. I'm in. Let's all go hang out with CWR. She's totally cool and IMO, mighty cute too.
I spoke with CWR earlier and she welcomes us. She is lonely and there is a lot of room. She canot post, but she is reading when not resting. She is healing nicely, btw.
byee
Alaska! My goal is to cycle all 50 by 50. 7 down....lets move. WI and AZ (tour de Tuscon) will be two more this year! Can't wait!
Trek, I had to kill it, it was badly injured in the mousetrap and would not have survived anywhere had I let it go. It was suffering.
I had to kill a possum once too, that had apparently been hit by a car. I didn't feel too bad about that though, because I wasn't responsible for injuring it. It was in agony and I was doing an act of kindness.
Morning all! Had a LOVELY evening and a tad too much wine. :p
Trek We decided the traditional 17th gift was FOOD, we grazed from the time we got home until bedtime. :D
Morning all! Glad I found you this morning.....
AG, I'll pm you later. I did fine on 1200 calories. A little hungry - more the "empty" feeling than really hungry, kwim? Of course, over the holidays I was used to stuffing myself so it's just a little stomach and mind retraining.
I liked the workout. I advanced to the second level already last night and I like it. I didn't push too hard because I didn't want to be too sore. My glutes are nicely sore today as are my lower abs. It's all good! I took my before pix yesterday too. Tonight I will bike so I'm actually taking in 1400 calories today. I did get a bit dizzy yesterday. And I love a little hot chocolate in my coffee so hey, when mamma's happy, everybodies happy!
Queen, congrats on your anniversary! Sounds like you gals had a nice time last night and I just love hearing about long term relationships. Does my heart good:p
Lise, yuck on the mouse. I know you had to do it - just glad it wasn't me. I did see a mouse in my garage the other day and I unleashed the hounds (literally). Unfortunately, there's something more entising to them in the swamp and I'm having a heck of a time keeping them in the yard these nights.
My old dog used to go to the swamp/wetland behind our house and sit her sore hips in the water.
she'd come back COVERED in algae and stinkin'.
Actually, I've got 3 hammocks. The first two at the jammie party get to borrow, the rest of you BYOH. Or we'll have a sewing party and make more.
I beg to differ. My bike's soul is in it's hubs and bottom bracket and headset. That's where the grease is, and you need grease to release the soul of each component, and a frame to tie them together into a symbiotic whole. I've upgraded frames, and the soul of the bike stayed with the original hubs and moved to the new frame, along with the 1970 Campy Record derailleurs.
But some bike parts are made to wear out (chains, cassettes, cables) and most human keep all their parts throughout life (barring a heart valve replacement or something). Hmmm...
Knotted, was your old dog named Stinky Butt Dog too?
Yup, she shoud've been!
A groggy good morning TD - I had the worst migraine in the middle of the night. Kept thinking of BMO and her constant headaches. I actually got up and was worried I might be having a stroke or something. Anyway, I was finally able to go back to sleep and woke up this morning with only a lingering headache but I can't move it too fast. I only get migraines once every couple of years so don't know what precipitates them. I suspect last night's had something to do with too much healthy living after 2 weeks of decadence. Yesterday I only ate 1200 calories, burned off 400+ on the bike, NO coffee, NO sugar, NO booze. Aaack, just severe withdrawal I guess. :D
