:o Pretty! Welcome to the forum! i love it hope you do too!
Real name: Lorri Lee Lown
Where do you live? San Mateo, CA (just south of San Francisco)
Explanation of your handle: It's my company name -- Velo Girls
Age (general or specific) 40 -- but I say I'm 35 in my online dating profiles -- men don't understand that 40 year old women are sexy, savvy, and sassy!
Occupation: Cycling Coach (how lucky am I?)
Favorite bike: I can't play favorites because the others will get jealous
What's in your stable? Trek Madone 5.9 SL with Campy Record (white with pink & silver flames and wheels I built myself -- pink Chris King hubs laced with silver spokes and silver Velocity rims), Lemond Victoire (for sale, wanna buy it?), Felt S22 time trial bike with a Zipp disk, Luna Orbit custom cyclocross bike (pink and purple) currently built up as a single speed (more pink hubs), Ritchey Break-Away steel cyclocross frame (also for sale), Ritchey Break-Away titanium cyclocross bike (a prototype frame that I was lucky enough to get for nationals -- thank you, Ritchey), Litespeed Pisgah hardtail mountain bike (with pink and silver streamers), Rivendell Atlantis touring bike that I built up myself, and a really cool track bike that I need to sell because I don't ride it and it deserves to be loved a lot (built by Dale Sasso for Bobby Walthour). Oh, and a 1968 Murray tricycle (red ) that was my very first bike!
What bikes do you covet? I'm planning to build up a single speed mountain bike soon. I've got my eyes on the Bianchi P.U.S.S. just because it's pink. I also want to get a true single speed cyclocross bike to replace the Luna. Alas.....no more new bikes until I sell a few.....
Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 56.2 on one of the California AIDS Rides -- descending from the Evil Twins. Luckily, I couldn't see the speed on my computer at the time or I probably would've freaked out. Anything over 45 usually makes that little voice in my head scream.
Another picture of yourself or your ride? I don't like to be photographed.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I don't really lie (well, except for my age in my online dating profiles).
Most memorable moment on my bike: Dang! That's a tough one. Recently, it would be my three-week self-supported tour in upstate NY (where I grew up) to celebrate my 40th (I mean 35th) birthday. It was an important trip for me. I'd been off the bike for a good part of the year due to two surgeries, so I had six weeks to regain the fitness to do this trip. There's nothing as empowering as travelling by bike (a bike I built up all by myself), carrying all your gear, visiting places I'd lived, friends, my parents' graves. I met the most incredible people, had some wild adventures, and was able to relive (and relieve) some of my past. I plan to ride cross-country to celebrate my 45th (I mean 40th) in 2010.
Most fun ever had on a bike? That's another tough one. I think it would be the day I discovered The Shells -- a really cool dirt park (jumps) hidden right on the bay in Foster City. I rode around like a little kid, jumping, getting air, and being generally foolish.
Worst time ever on a bike Kinda sad, but this one's an easier answer. Getting hit by a car ranks high on this list. So does crashing at Nationals. But I think my all-time worst day was a date. It was a second date with this guy I didn't really like. I had the crazy idea that we should go on a tandem ride (he had a tandem and I'd never ridden one and was curious). I know some folks love to tandem, but it sure wasn't fun for me -- sitting on the back of a bike, feeling completely out of control, needing to trust someone I barely knew, and staring at his butt for hours. Sheesh! I'm sure that statement right there will tell you all more about me than anything else I've written.
Honored t' meetcha, Lorri! Welcome to the forum! :)
~BikeMomma
That's a great date story! Funny too. i know what you mean, and welcome!!!! My husband just started building bikes and it is really is good for him. He takes a lot of pride in it.

Another picture of yourself or your ride?my husband rides seperate from me so there is no one to take apic but I will work on that.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: when I was in 10th grade I told my friends I knew Duran Duran and had back stage passes. I got caught with that one!
Most memorable moment on my bike: when it didn't hurt anymore!
Most fun ever had on a bike? riding around catalina island with my husband rigt before he had to leave for 6 weeks to do a sand sculpture. it was just a romantic time!

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: " I fully intend to go for that ride up that huge hill in the morning" ;) And I told it to myself...
Most memorable moment on my bike: On my first wobbly trip home from work two really cool guys on road bikes pulled up besides me, they had all the gear and looked way cool- and they started chatting to me about biking! I felt like I had arrived! :)
Most fun ever had on a bike? I'm the idiot with the permanent grin.

Biggest lie: "Mom, I'm sleeping over at Susie's tonight." (at the same time, Susie is saying, "Mom, I'm sleeping over at Deena's tonight.")
Most memorable moment on my bike: Finishing the Seattle to Portland ride last year (first time) on the tandem.
Most fun I've ever had on my bike: I love the 60-mile training rides we do around Lake Washington on the tandem. The scenery's gorgeous, lots of different birds, the terrain is varied--it's just a blast.

Real name: Johanna Love
Where do you live? Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Explanation of your handle: I wrote a column in January about snow biking at 5 degrees, and mentioned that when the sun peeked over the butte and hit my face, it felt like a climax. A local pundit wrote a letter to the editor, poked fun at me and said he'd never had such a good time on a bike, maybe he should ask the CyclaSutra what he's doing wrong. :o
Explanation of your avatar: A photographer friend and I cruised Arizona in November. She had never ridden as an adult before, but I took her on an easy trail in Sedona, and she loved it. This is on a rental in Sedona.
Age (general or specific) 31.5
Occupation: Newspaper features editor
Favorite bike: Felt F70 with a "Girls Kick ***" sticker
What's in your stable? Also a hardtail Trek 8500 with a "Boys Lie" sticker that's disentigrating after too much mud ... and an Electra pink cruiser that I don't cruise often enough. Fourteen miles is too far to cruise it to the nearest coffee shop.
What bikes do you covet? I'd love a full-suspension mountain bike, but I'm on a shopping hiatus this year. I have everything I NEED. Want, that's a different story...
Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 52 down the back side of Teton Pass (10 percent grade) on my way "Around the Block" last summer.
Another picture of yourself or your ride? Let's see if these attachments work ... One is me and my nutty "pit crew," the other is during a four-leg race called the Pole, Pedal, Paddle. Obviously, I was the pedal, and part of the paddle. We were the "Shady Ladies" last year, and we won the fun class (probably because they judge you on how much FUN you're having, not because our outfits were all that).

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "I've had these shorts for a long time, punkin, they're not new."
Most memorable moment on my bike: Finally nailing a trackstand at a long traffic light ... sneaking up on a fisher during my commute ... standing in line at the coffee shop and knowing I earned that latte ... swooping through loop-de-loops on the singletrack.
Most fun ever had on a bike? Getting up after each endo, realizing that I didn't break anything on my body, and regaining the confidence to haul *** again.
Worst time ever on a bike: Either blowing out my ACL on a bad bunny hop  , or not finishing my first attempt at a double century because of sleet and snow.

Another picture of yourself or your ride: I have to think about how to get a pic here!
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I'm the worst lier ever! I just simply can't do it since I know I'll get into lot more trouble if I do so.
Most memorable moment on my bike: I always get a dreamlike feeling when riding in the great summer weather with my music on.. It's really magic..
Most fun ever had on a bike? Must've been last summer when me and my mum and my aunt did a 77 km ride together. It must've been one one of the best
Worst time ever on a bike? Hmm.. this is a tough one. Last summer when I fell because I was not looking where I was going :)
Funny. It's so weird because all I've ever done is read about the Rohloff. Never seen one, let alone ridden one, but being a bit of gear-lover, just had to have one. Especially, since it will make taking care of the bike easier. (yeah, i know you can do the same thing with singlespeeds and fixies, but I like my gears)Quote:

Worst time on a bike: when I was a teenager I was riding in flip flops, my shoe got caught and then my foot shot off of the pedal, into my spokes and then got carried through the front fork - finally, the front wheel stopped dead and the bike flipped.
Hey Cris/Brina,
Welcome! I'm in Chgo, too. North side. The flip-flop story is horrific! Any lasting scars to show with the story? Have you been riding outdoors this winter? I've gone out all of once, but am thinking of taking my bike out tomorrow, as they say it's going to be in the 40s. Welcome to the TE board!
Lise
Lise, we are in a north surburb - we should ride sometime. I am a fair weather rider - not much into riding outside during Chicago winters, so i mostly spin. I did get out on the Green Bay Trail on a few of those freak 60 degree days with my kids, but they are 5, so we didn't go far or fast.Quote:

Fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? can i report back when the winter clears and i actually get to USE my bike computer (instead of admiring how nice it looks on my bike)? LOL - not that i'm bitter! x.x
Another picture of yourself or your ride? no pics of me as of yet.
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: the biggest lie i've ever told has been to myself - that i'm not good enough, too fat, can't do it, not pretty enough, not smart enough, don't deserve to be happy etc etc etc - but i amgood enough, am working on it, am doing it, cute enough that i don't mind waking up with me, have 2 degrees so i must be at least somewhat intelligent and happiness is riding my bike with my hair whipping out behind me... then in my eyes, drooling and snotting on myself, falling off, getting back on and feeling like jelly when i'm done. life is what i choose to make it. :)
Most memorable moment on my bike: i honestly don't have one yet. my memory prediction though will be that my most memorable moment will occur when i ride across my country.
Most fun ever had on a bike? the moment when i was 5 years old and i realized that my bike was a form of freedom.
Isn't that the truth! What amazes me about my own kids and their lack of riding. When I was little, my horses and my bike were my tickets to parent free days. Get up in the morning and clear the heck out of Dodge. Here my boys are all older than 11 and can you get them to go on their own around any of the wonderful trails in our city? No. Running out of ideas. I think I may have to start paying them to tour the town. :eek:Quote:

That would be fun. There are a couple of us in the Chgo area on this board. I sure as heck did not go out on the bike today--chilly, windy, grey, in the 30's...but hope springs eternal. I grew up in LB/LF (if you live up there, you know where I mean!), and wiped out big-time on the GB trail when they were constructing it. I rode a portion that was still dirt with lots of ruts...it was 1979 and I had a skinny-tired 10 speed bike...caught a rut...face plant. Still have the scars to show for it. Looking forward to biking weather returning to the midwest! L.

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: Will have to answer this at another time...after I get to know some of you.

Most fun ever had on a bike? Riding all over town with my husband pulling the two kids in the bike trailer. We ended the ride with a sprint to the house. I won! Granted, he was pulling 50lbs of kids and the trailer, but...

What is the biggest lie you've ever told: I'm terrible at lying. Tried it once when I was 7, but confessed a few hours later because I felt too guilty. (I'm sure Bikeless in WI can tell you more about that story)

Most memorable moment on my bike: Riding the Lake Berryessa Loop on a 99 degree Sunday summer afternoon. Had one small water bottle, no money, no cell phone and was half way there when we ran out of water. Too far to turn back, too far to keep going. Couldn’t call my husband because he was with me. Finally made it to our destination, a store, and sat at the bar drinking gobs of water.
Most fun ever had on a bike? At the 2004 Sea Otter, Monterey, CA. Four days of riding the trails, getting lost and checking out the downhill. Placed fairly well in the MTB race.
Just think - once you get the Ph.D. --- no more school and more time to ride!:D It felt like it took me forever, but at 32 I finally finished. How close are you? Good luck!Quote:
