Me, too! :D (and I'll post it on TD, much better than my ab shots! ;) )
OK, kids! Dinner is ready!
Chicken and rice soup, with satsumas and Endangered Species dark chocolate for dessert.
Hi, TE TD, long time!! I got lost......... lost in the real world. Had too many hours at work w/ holiday parties. Tried to find time at home, too. Had 29th wedding anniversary and overnight trip out of town. Had computer that drove me crazy till #3 son got it working again. Plus the holidays. Something had to give. Hope you are all well! No emergencies.
Sounds like there were some great vacations/visits going on! A new happy pairing/couple!!?? Cool!! Friendships cemented and maintained. It continuously amazes me, this online community that encourages and nurtures connections between people that would have probably had no chance of meeting otherwise. We live in a continuously expanding world, don't we......
Hey - Happy 2007 to everyone!!!! I'll check in again soon, I hope.

Shrink, shrink, shrink!
Poor SKnot is in that in-between stage: Boys size jeans are too small, mens size jeans are too big, and "student" size jeans aren't long enough.
So I got him a pair of men's shrink-to-fit Levi 501's in the smallest size I could find and I'm shrinking them with reckless abandon. (Darn men's jeans cost 2x what the boys jeans cost! Pooey!)
Are we allowed to dress our growing like a weed teenage boys in burlap bags?
Kids and clothes - I bought my long-legged but "skinny-butted" boy some jeans in Vancouver this week because that's the only place I can find jeans with an adjustable waist that don't look stupid. :)
That's what I've got: long legged skinny butted boy. And all the styles are for baggy pants, and even SLIM pants are baggy on him.
This kid needs a 26-27 inch waist and 30 inch inseam.
burlap bags, I'm tellin' ya.... just cut holes for the head and arms and send 'em off to school...
Yeah....
I thought strong and fit cyclists were hot (and I do look at a lot of them) but then I saw hundreds of triathletes up close at IM LP. It was like 4 straight days of drooling for me: at the bikes, the gear, the athletes...
Can't wait til July!!!
of course in the meanwhile I am going to do as much as I can to get into shape myself. heh heh. :D
BMo3: Thanks, I will try to find the Kohl's pants and keep and eye out for the Levis. Our Mervyn's went out of business, and that was the only place I could find Levi student jeans in all the sizes.
A Kohl's just opened, I'll have to go check it out.
Darn, I used to be able to dress SKnot in boys Target brand slim jeans for $8 a pair. Now my little boy is growing up, sniff!
Hi ty, nice to see here you hon. :D
Congrats Knot on bringing up up a wonderfully tall, perpetually growing (in so many ways) young man.
Thanks for teaching him about diversity and tolerance. Kudos for passing on the good vibes.
Woah, I am VERY drunk right now. (only 2 glasses of wine. cheap date.) You have no idea of the day I have had. Not nearly as bad as some of my patients and I am very grateful for that. Thanks Kit for putting up with me on the phone. Much appreciated sis. And thank you so much for putting me in a good mood again. You always know how to make me feel better. :) ;) :D
I guess in my drunken state, I should stop right here.
So, goodnight TD. Have a peaceful and safe night. :) :D :)
-X. :) :D
Gaaa! SKnot tried on the Levis 501's, even though I've only run 'em through the shrink process 2x not 3x yet. They FIT!!!! They look super-baggy on his little butt, but they stayed up without a belt and though the legs were long, they weren't too long or so long I'd need to hem them.
OMG!!!! My little shrimp is wearing 30w 34L jeans! (Mind you, with shrinkage those old-fashioned 501's are probably more like 28w 32L)
Oh dear, oh dear! My little boy is growing up! Oh, my... men's size jeans!
How did this happen?
(and why are those suckers so darn expensive?)
:D
My life is good and complete when I can spread happiness the way it's meant to be.
This rum is being very kind to me. ...whuff. gonna fall aslep antt the computer. :D g'night td!
wow, I heard Kit's forehead hit the keyboard!
Good morning all you lovely ladies. Haven't told DH about the raincoat order (i did tell him that I didn't want a burley raincoat and that I wanted to have a waterproof raincoat) Is that really too much to ask? He made a face, he thinks i should keep wearing the one that i have until the stitching on the shoulders comes unravelled. He is so penny wise and pound foolish!
We're going to Seaside Oregon for the weekend and new years with his bike club. How fun will it be when my package from TE arrives with my new raincoat inside AT the hotel (in his name no less) and I get to open it in front of all his well-heeled bike club friends. How else could I even consider riding this weekend?
but I am back to square one again.. I just want a bike that I can fit into that can have fenders. Why is that SO HARD to find?!!?
How old is S-knot? Baby bear (duckling II) shot up 4" at 17. Went through 3 sets of clothes the one year I was "single-parenting" (had him with me on sabbatical). And we thought he was done after about 3" each of the two previous years. I guess it's a guy thing, that long growth spurt at puberty.
my size? You mean a 48cm with a 50cm top tube? WITH REALLY BIG FEET.
:)
I'm not gonna be able to call him "Small Knot" for much longer... sigh. He's 13. His father grew 8 inches in one year (at age 13) and so far SKnot has grown about 3 or 4 since his last birthday. And a couple weeks ago his voice started to crack.
He'll be a tall one, lots of over-six-footers in both sides of his family. He's already up to my eyebrows, so I'm guessing he's about 5'6". I should measure him again.
He's already almost as tall as my older sprout. He'll leave them in the dust.
My family and my husband's family specialize in folks under 5'2" so I was quite relieved when my sons made it to 5'6" and 5'9"!!
At 15 baby bear grew 1cm and went through his change of voice all in one week ... while I was away at a conference. I missed all the cracking and swooping and squeeking. I said goodbye to him eyeball to eyeball (5.9") in soprano, and felt my neck click backwards when he said welcome home as a baritone. Until then he'd been among the shortest boys in his class. He's now 6' 6.5" and hopefully done at last. Be prepared to watch S-knot soar upwards. The clothes size surprises sound like an early warning of a growth spurt that may last several years.
oh, yeah, that reminds me. when my older son was in 6th grade (12 or 13 )
we went camping for a week. The last day of camping we told him to put on his shoes. He couldn't! he'd grown 2 shoe sizes in that week.
Try Kohl's (no affiliation other than I spend too much money there). I never pay more than $18 for jeans for the guys. All my guys wear slims and it does get tricky when they keep growing taller. My oldest is 5'8 now and still fits in the "juniors" section of Urban Pipeline (Kohl's) and Levis 550 Student.
Best of luck jean shopping.
Hi, ladies. I haven't been around much because I am too tired to ride very often these days, but I thought I'd check in here and see how everyone is doing.
Me, I am currently eight and a half weeks pregnant with twins. Not for long, they tell me: one of them has been faltering from the get-go and they think I'll probably lose that one, although it's hiding behind its sibling so we won't know for sure for a few more weeks. Either way my doctors are pretty confident that the other twin is fine and is unlikely to be affected by the loss of its sibling. And we will be very happy with one healthy baby.
In the meantime, I feel like I am pregnant with twins: I am sick and tired and sleeping twelve hours a day. I have no activity restrictions at the moment -- "exercise while you can," is what they told me -- which is good, because when I can drag myself out we have been doing a little mountain biking, and I narrowly avoided my first endo. Something to tell the kid after it arrives.
Congrats Xeney! I carried twins and was told neither would make it. They are both here and quite healthy. :) Did they doctors mention anything about TTTS? Offer up any opinions as to why they think one twin will not thrive? Have you been seeing a Perinatologist who specializes in high risk, multiple birth pregnancies? Feel free to contact me off list. (((((((Xeney)))))))
Congratulations Xeney! I don't know anything about twins but hopefully BMO3 can give you advice and support. Hugs from me and hugs to the little ones too. :)
I can attest to the overnight growth. My son keeps wanting me to measure him and for weeks, it's nothing, and then one day, he's grown another inch. I'm sure it happens overnight. Sometimes I think I'd like to measure him daily to see if that's true.
I managed to splash hot bacon fat on my chest this morning. Now I have several blisters right close to a pretty sensitive spot. Owie... :( Glad I'm not breast-feeding right now.
congrats Xeney and good luck. i hope everything works out ok. enjoy the sleep while you can.
hey, what's so bad about having a myspace page?
did i just set myself up for something? please don't stone me to death?!
Thanks, everyone. Jennifer, they are in separate sacs so I was told that TTTS was not a concern. And right now Baby B's faltering is almost certainly due to chromosomal issues that can't be avoided or prevented, so they aren't even considering me high risk unless/until Baby B makes it to the ten-week mark. Right now they have this classed as a "vanishing twin," even though it hasn't vanished yet!
You drifters crack me up. I am a lurker because I can't keep up. :D This week is slow at work, I am actually caught up on the drift.
Knot- I have no advice on growth spurts, but I second Kohl's. My brother and FIL are ridiculously hard to find sizes and we usually find them at Kohl's.
Xeney- Congratulations and best luck with the pregnancy. I wonder what to expect when I am pregnant one day, since I am not pregnant and need a nap a day. I have been known to nap in my car at lunch. I love my naps!
CWR- I am not sure what it means but I have a Myspace page. It is the only way some of my friends will answer me, traditional email doesn't work for them.
(((Xeney))) Take good care!
I'm about ready to spaz out at the next landlord who tells me that they have received a (1) application on an apartment that I'm looking for/at and that it's pending right now. GRR. Why must I ALWAYS be behind on this sh*t?! RRRRAAAAARRRGH!
Wow, I just scored on after Christmas shopping for my son! Toys, clothes and a few car gadgets for mom - yeah! Now. Put the cc away and do NOT use it! This boy is set for gifts for Valentines Day, Easter basket and birthday:D
Aggie and CWR - you'll have to check Mimi's post about a refernce to X and a myspace page. Just playing off that, nothing bad.
Got a little more snow today. Still wet heavy stuff. Guess I'll be shoveling tonight. You guys need to quit talking about naps. I am REALLY tired right now. But then, I don't feel good. Yucky stomach thang. Good thing I already promised my son he could have his favorite meal for supper: ramen noodles, pb&j sandwich, and raw carrots and dip. He could eat that all week...
My poor little guy has been sick with a sore throat, bad cough, and fever since Christmas night. He slept until noon today and is still just laying on the couch. As bad as I feel for him, I am also secretly enjoying the peace and quiet. Bad mommy....
Xeney,
Best of luck through this challenging time. Hoping all will resolve as hoped.
Myspace pages and butt fetishes- that's X's department and I'm not *touching* it. :D :D :D And here I thought all she fetishized was leather. Pff. Biker chicks these days, I'm tellin' ya. ;)
it's feeling like a looong day.
This apt stuff is frustrating.
oh you know you want to touch the fetish! http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/...mileys2/16.gif touch it! touch it!
try not to get to frustrated.
*giggle, then big-girl, indignant voice* Chica! What have I told you about encouraging me?! ;)
Me? I'm happy with my leather, but piercings, steel and big engines make me giddy, too. *sigh* I tell ya, half the time I feel like I'm a biker on the wrong sorta bike. So to speak.
But I can't go making Miz Cakes feel insecure. She's got all the engine she needs. :D
I'm going to end up deleting all this I know it. :D I try not to get frustrated, but I do. Grr. Apartment managers!
<mumble>Damm crazy women around here, anyway. And me without my chaps!</mumble>
well, Kit as for what kind of bike you really ought to be on, just look at the MOTORCYCLE bikers who are my age. Do you want to look like them or like us? The kind of bike you ride is going to keep your girlish/boyish figure a girlish/boyish figure . The other bike?? it's going to help you get bigger and bigger and bigger.
Naps are a wonderful thing. I embrace naps. As a matter of fact, I think I am do for one. :)
