(((mickchick))) :(
(((((Mick))))) I'm so sorry for your loss, you are a great mom to have taken such good care of her AND make the hard choice when the time was right.
(((Mick))) sorry for your loss. What a beautiful tribute you wrote - you're a good furmamma!
Adorable pix - keep them coming!
Mick, I am also sorry for your loss. At times I look at our pets and think about the saddness that we will feel when that time comes.
You gave Maud a good life and is most important. Now you have those wonderful memories.
~ JoAnn
Thanks, again, everyone.
Maud is home now. Her ashes on the nightstand, next to her daddy's side of the bed (Agnes' are on the nightstand next to my side). Once the garden store gets in its shipment of lawn ornaments, we'll buy her an angel and put it next to Agnes' angel in our front yard.
Karma the Zen Dogy
((Mick)) What a lovely tribute to your special girl.
Tofu, is Karma a greyhound or whippet? She's cute!
Karma is a 2 1/2 yo whippet. When I'm not riding, she is my constant companion, and even drove cross country with me not too long ago. Other than being a blanket hog she's awesome!
I am glad you finally established Karma is a dog! You speak of her in the running thread as your running buddy, I thought maybe you were protecting a friend's identity. :p What a friendly running buddy. My schnauzers will have none of this exercise nonsense. They hate leaving the creature comforts of the house.
Indy went mole-ing this afternoon!

That's funny! For some reason I take it for granted that everyone knows her personally. Karma runs 37mph, and will chase anything within a 5 mile radius. She's happy, easy going, and dumb as a rock, and I love her madly. The only time I have an issue with her is when the alarm goes off at 5:15 am for her walk, and for a minute I wish she were a cat so I can sleep in. Attempts to teach her to meow have so far failed...
Cats? Sleep in? My experience with the kitties runs more along these lines:
Cat-Man-Do
:D
A good mole is a dead mole! Good job Indy!
Good boy, Indy! :)
Moles don't deserve to live? :(
Poor Mole :(
She had a husband and six kids at home
.
I don't know much about moles so I'll reserve judgment on whether that was a good thing or not but it's what terriers do.
Oh! Ty is GORGEOUS.

We took the girls with us last weekend in my parent's RV. Too bad we wanted to sleep, they thought the bed was theirs:

And because she is too sweet for words, their buddy Athena. My parent's gorgeous and sweet as can be Rottie. She totally lets little 8 lb Heidi be the alpha dog, it is pretty funny.

Our aunt and uncle in PA recently got moles in their backyard. I never new what one looked like, YUK!!!! I don't think I would be able to use my yard if they were around.
Thanks for posting & what a good dog you have!!!!
~ JoAnn
The beak looks silver. I've not seen a silky before--that's very interesting. Do you have several other interesting birds?
Aggie, Athena's eyes are so gentle.
Moles are pretty much blind and easy to catch, and harmless...except when you step in their holes and twist an ankle. I don't worry about that too much, though, because my dog Lucy leaves much bigger holes!
You haven't LIVED until you wake up to the cat bringing in a live mole at 3 a.m., it bleeding all over the carpet, and running and squealing under your bed!
eta: I was fascinated when I followed Lucy out to her mole hunt, and I leaned down close to the ground and could hear the little mole tearing through the grass roots just under the surface. It is quite a curious thing to see her listening to the mole, and literally watching the dirt bump up above it, just like in cartoons!
I'm always sad when one is killed, but I have a huge yard and plenty of room for them and me.
Karen
My mom saw her in the paper from the local kill shelter and went to scoop her up! She may be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met with no real training from my parents, just her personality.
Equus- Is the silky is a chicken? It is making me laugh, those guys would bring a smile to my face to have!
That guy is amazing. He looks like he just came out from under the dryer.
I've never seen such a critter. Very neat!
That is the coolest chicken I've ever seen. Your horse is beautiful. I have a mole story and just don't like them. My mom's house in Ocala (north Florida horse country) has an indoor garden/arbor. She can grow herbs or veggies right in her kitchen. Well the moles like to come up and see what she's cooking from time to time. Gross no eyed little creatures, harmless enough until they are crawling around in the house. They usually get scared and go right back into the ground. Sometimes my mom's corgi's decide it's a squeaky toy. Now its a sopping wet gross no eyed little creature. It must be tough being a mole!
I love chickens and such. When I lived in my bigger house (we've downsized) I had a pond and a dozen ducks. They would be out on the pond all day and came running when I called and would go into their safe pen for the night (otherwise the coyotes and raccoons and foxes would have gotten them). They had babies which were unbelievably cute. We all ate the most wonderful duck eggs you can imagine, for years. Can't keep poultry in the village where we live now. I don't mind, it was fun while it lasted.
Eddy and Twiggy update--they love each other still! They're sleeping in today.
awwwww. Now I don't just WANT a cat, I want to BE a cat.
I can smell that clean fuzzy fur all the way over here...
Yeah, they have it made! Eddy kind of smells like Graham Crackers. Twiggy doesn't really smell like anything specific. Just good.
When are you getting that kitty you keep pining for, lph? You should do it today! Right now! Go!
Aaaaah.... weeelll.... yeah... You see - we'd said we wanted a kitten. (Well son and I want 2 kittens, but dh will not budge from 1. Stupid man ;)). Cos kittens are such amazing fun, even though it doesn't last long. You might as well unplug the tv and computer as long as you have a kitten or 2 in the house. Then we visited the local shelter, full of sweet adorable cats, and I got conscience pangs about going out and getting a kitten while all these sweethearts just sat here waiting for a new home. But couldn't decide on one on the fly and dh wasn't along,so we have to go back, all of us together. And the shelter is way the h*ll and gone and only open weeknights, so we just haven't had time. And when we get a new cat we'll want to spend a lot of time at home to begin with so s/he feels safe, but *bing* there was winter holidays, and *bam* there are the easter holidays... when we want to go out skiing.
So. I am going to drag everyone over there right over Easter and say PICK OUT A CAT! NOW, OR WE ARE NOT GOING HOME! ;)
Thanks for asking :D
ps. i am going to check out the shelter's pages right now and see who's still there!
Some of the stories about the cats at the shelter are just heartbreaking - like the little female cat who was found half frozen to death on a remote road. They thought her back legs were injured because she couldn't move them due to damage from the cold, and she's now lost the top half of both ears from frostbite :( And the kittens born outside to cats that the owners wouldn't let inside, and tried to put down unsuccessfully :( :( And all the ones that were "moved from" - the owners just up and left!!
Going to look is one of the hardest things to do. I cried when I got Eddy.
I can't wait to see the one you choose! Good luck!
