My son's girlfriend is having a cookie exchange. I don't even like cookies but
i accepted the invite and i have to make 7 dozen cookies to swap with 7 other people. 7 dozen is A LOT of coookies! I'm making biscotti, made 1 batch which gave me 5 dozen cookies. grrrr.
I ran out of almost everything after making one batch so i rode to the store 38 degrees out! and bought eggs, vanilla and almonds. So now i can make batch #2.
I discovered that the store is only 0.6 miles so i went a really long way because there's still a small chance i might make my goal of 2000 miles this year, i have 92 miles to go. and yes, i am counting my basement miles!
I love biscotti. Is it difficult to make?

My 200k yesterday went well. It was 85F down there, though! Lise- I'm still wearing my sandals in December! Oh yeah, she can't hear me, she's too busy with the guy she dumped Peter Reid for.
It's really tropical down there. The ride was along the coast, and along the Indian river which separates the barrier islands from the mainland. Some very, very rick people live there. Gorgeous houses, and landscaping. Trees that look like they came from a tropical island. All kinds of cool wading birds. No see ums that bit every time we stopped!
Salsa- Steve is so awesome, isn't he? Tonight I fed Inez, Choco and Zee. Inez first, making sure to wash so I didn't smell like mouse and get bit. Then Chocs. By the time I was going to go get Zee to put in his feeding container, I thought his mouse was a little too cool (should be 100F) so I popped it back in warm water, then went to get Zee. I'm carrying Zee in my left hand, and trying to dry the mouse in my right, and I feel this chewing on the side of my palm, and it's Zee, trying to eat me! Must have smelled mousy. My first venomous snake bite! (Not to worry, they are "rear-fanged" so he'd have to swallow my hand to get me, but even then, the venom is weak.) So all the good snakes eat, and I'm going to put Zee back, and he tail-rattled at me! What a tough guy!
The good news is that Addy's mouse stayed down, and she has gained one gram, and I am going to feed her again tomorrow afternoon.
Oh, on my ride, my nice Oakleys (that I didn't like so much) flew off my aerobars (they've ridden a couple thousand miles there with no problem) and got immediately run over. So I have ordered a pair of pink half jackets- hope I like them.
Next 200k is January 6th, right here at home. It'll be my one year anniversary of randonneuring.

Crazycanuck - you around? I know that back there you listed a bunch of Canadian stuff that you missed but I can't find it. The teachers at our school want to put together a care package for a friend who is leaving on a teacher exchange to Australia in a couple of weeks. I remember Tim Horton's, Smarties for her kids, she seems to think you can't get "real" peanut butter down there (?), what else should we send? Course I'll be getting her to bring me back some Tam Tams (Tim Tams?)... :)

all my biscotti are done. I got them done in LESS time than it took my husband to do his 200k ride on the Olympic Penninsula. Hes got about an hour and a half to go, temps have been (To contrast with Nanci's ride) from 28 degrees up to 40. He had to start in the dark and it will end in the dark. we have such short days this time of year.

Apparently her parents are going to retire there and build their own hydroelectric dam because they don't have electricity. Interesting. Oh, and for the record, Chet talked me into a new saddle and it's a LOT better than my last one. :D

I don't think there's a case of a human being harmed by a hognose bite...it'd be tough for him to actually inject venom, since his fangs are way back in there.
I know Inez is guaranteed to be a female, and Zee has been sexed as a male. They stick a probe into the cloaca and if it goes in far- it's a boy- needs storage room, and if it barely goes in, it's a girl. You can also guess by the way the tail joins to the body. I guess Maizey is a female, and probably Choco, too. haven't really looked at Addy.
We went to see Borat today. We must be the only two people in the world who didn't think it was hilarious...

The movies I like are mostly kind of odd.
We rented Metropolis at Thanksgiving- a 1920's silent film masterpiece about life in the "future" (2026!) in a world where humans are divided into two separate groups- workers and thinkers. It was great. We also rented some old Jason & The Golden Fleece and Seventh Voyage of Sinbad- so bad they are now good, and the claymation work is still impressive after all these years.
I like movies like EraserHead, and John Waters, Cohen Bros., and Russ Meyers movies. I do like sentimental black and white 1940's movies. Also new independent movies- we saw The Lives of Others at our little town's film fest a few months ago, talk about a great film, and it just got picked as best film of the year in Europe. Also liked Penelope Cruz and the women's cast of Volver, another prize winner.
We don't watch tv, and I'm always clueless when people talk about tv shows or tv actors. We only have a tv in order to watch the movies we rent a couple of times a month. It's always dusty.
I don't watch TV at all anymore either. 'Course I don't have time because I'm always on my comptuer...:)
Does anyone have any toothpicks I could stick on my eye lids? Oh dear...I think i had a smidgen bit of sunstroke yesterday...:( and am still a bit knackered this afternoon.

The pressure points aren't between your ribs so much as right at the sternum where the ribs attach. (well, between where the ribs attach)
Still have a sore lower back / right hip. It is so annoying because I just got my trainer all set up and rode it 3 times, then borrowed a Spinerval tape 2.0 Time Trial to try out. Now I think I should probably be off the bike until the pain is totally gone. Hope that's soon. DH (or should I call him "F"? - for fiance - haha) thinks I should ride a little and work it out. I'm afraid to in case I set myself back even longer. Argh.
Trek, you already know my thoughts on yesterday. Thanks for wearing the AV gear for us at the memorial. We certainly were by your side out there dear. I wore the Jenny shirt under all my layers today to remember Kathy on our ride. *raising my glass* To both ladies who were taken too young and tragically on their bikes.

Wha? Me tired? No way, hon. Actually, I stopped by to visit my Mom on my way home. Then went looking for xmas bikes for the nieces again. Ran into bro there and hung out a bit. Came home and did a load of laundry, cleaned the kitchen after someone left it a sight today :(, ran the dishes through a cleaning, took a shower, tested the hot tub water and added some chemicals, swept the patio cuz it bugged me, cooked a meal. (Never got the pasta for lunch so I made spaghetti. Oh good batch, lots of mushrooms and fresh garlic bread. Yum.) IM'd with a couple of people, answered my emails and now am posting. Just unloaded the Jeep. Still have to clean and lube and reassemble my bike. I think that will wait until tomorrow tho. It's now 1:05 am. :D

Nanci - I agree on the Talladega Nights movie. The kind of movie that makes you dumber for having watched it. I usually like Will Farrell but this one came up way short with me. Even drunk it sucks.
Last night I bought the animated movie Cars on my way home and watched it while doing a million other things. First saw it in the theatre with some nieces and then with J. Very cool little flick. If you need a Nascar fix, go with this one next time.
I love Pixar stuff. Even though I adore Toy Story, The Incredibles is still my favorite from them. Intelligent storylines, subtly placed tangents and undertones, inventive elements designed into the backround and they are by far the most elite animation team in the business. All time favorite (animated) is still Snow White though. Untouchable.
Well, gotta go clean up the bike from yesterday. Then reassemble her. No hitch for the Jeep yet, so no rack. Tough one figuring out how to fit her in the back safe and secure without getting chain grease on everything. (She got to be the first one to ride upside-down in that Jeep. Darn, I was hoping for that honor. Oh well, 'next' is a good place too. :o :D)

X- I really liked the Spare-Me bike rack by Thule. mounts *very* securely on the spare tire and can easily carry two mtn bikes. I think having the bikes on the outside would help prevent you from having your top slashed. not sure how you'd lock 'em on. I think there was a cable that did it 'officially', but what we did was take one of those 6' long kryptonite cables and loop it 'round, then thru the tire, so it would be a massive b*tch to try and steal. just a thought.

Thanks Kit for the info. I didn't want to put one on the tire cuz I think there is already enough weight hanging on the back door hinges. I have a hitch on order, just isn't here yet. Then I'll do a final fit on my design for a flat rack for a cargo area, single bike and kayak combo. Lots of work there yet. Still need a 4 bike hitch rack though for when the kids and others come along. (still working on getting some friends out riding, so you never know) I've got my eye on a great lock setup that I think will work. I'm gonna have to adjust the original design a bit. (You know me.) It'll be a bugger for them to get them off though.

X - I love the Pixar stuff too. I still wish they' bring out another Toy Story movie. I love Tom Hanks too. Haven't seen Cars. My ex. seems to take my little guy to all the moveis because he gets him on weekends, plus he always buys him stuff so he often picks up the new dvd's before I do...
Our musical was written by a staff member. It's the story of an old couple celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. As they reminisce, we see scenes of how they met etc. DH and I play the younger version of them (aack, I have to 18 again?). We sing the Everly Bros "Dream" (although we do the version by James Taylor and his partner, her name escapes at the moment) and Going to the Chapel together. I have to sing Leader of the Pack alone (:eek: :eek: ) he sings Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain alone, and we sing in all the group songs as well. It has been SO fun rehearsing. I have been a background singer in a play before and in choirs but nevr had a solo. I am going to puke onstage I'm sure. (PS I went to see the Everly Bros about 3 years ago, I was the only one there without grey/white hair. :D )
Hiccups ... best 'weird' remedy that actually works is to put your fingers over the opening of the ear canal and drink water. This is most easily achieved by using a straw. Everyone will ask you what the heck you are doing, but it's worked for me every time.
X, Did you pick out bikes yet for the kiddos? I did skip spinning this morning. Still sore. I have to do the heart rate test Wednesday with my trainer, so I think the extra rest is in order.
