Sounds like we are on the same page, so to speak, AND reading the same books. The 'pause' concept is what will probably help me the most - if I can just get into the habit of doing it. I tend to graze while cooking dinner and on any given day could eat a meal's worth of calories before sitting down to eat dinner. Maybe I'll make a bunch of labels that say, "Pause and think about it" and stick them to all my grazing foods.
Hey have any of you had your Lean Body Mass tested? If so, how did you have it done and who did it?
My trainer uses calipers every 4 - 6 weeks to get my Body Fat. What's not fat is lean mass. My lean mass always comes in between 116 - 118 pounds. I use the 116 number when I'm doing any calculations.
If I used 118, I'd be down to 18% BF. :D

Thanks for the offer Martina, I don't mind you having access :) worry not. But I'm good. Got my work done for my meeting.
I must admit, I messed something up in the programming in my copying from last month (almost did have to yell for your help Martina, in the end I just stared over). So that is part of the delay today as well.
I've been using the livestrong.com daily plate thing all week. It really is helping me I think. Due to the feeling like crap thing, I haven't done any actual moving :) but I think I ate a good bit better and dropped 2 lbs since last week (though never sure if some of that isn't due to transient things, only time will tell). Now if only I can get moving around more. Hoping to this week!
Good luck to one and all. Let me know if I missed anything, new folks are welcome at any time, just jump on in!!
I had my lean body mass tested this morning.
Mine was at 135--which doesn't surprise me. I am the same height as a few of my friends, weigh 15-20lbs more but wear the same size.
They use calipers and do a BIA--a maching that hooks up to you and sends little electrodes through your body.
144 today. I think I'm plateauing again.
Busy and stressful week. :(
starting weight: 143
Goal: 135
I started at 150.5, now I am 147.5. Goal: 140. THANKS for doing this!

221 today - ugh! The crash Tuesday has not helped my training, and comfort food has been too tempting.
Let me know if folks are having trouble viewing the page - either through the first link or the html link. I did search a little through their help section and it looks like a lot of people were having the trouble that we encountered a few weeks ago, not being able to get in without signing in, though I think we figured out that when I published it as an html we were OK. Just want to be sure. Someone sent a request for access and I don't know who it was, and unless you are going to edit, you shouldn't need access to it and should be able to view it from one or both of the links. But let me know if that isn't working. It's always possible I've messed something up. :) Nothing is beyond my ability in the messing up department!
OY, I clicked and couldn't get in. Told you I can mess things up. Give me a sec.

OK, those two links worked for me. Let me know if anyone is having trouble.
130 again today! :(
Actually, I could log on with both links today. Makes absolutely no sense.
Starting weight 66.0kg, goal weight 64.0kg.
When I was researching that issue, it seemed like a lot of people were having that problem, sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. All sorts of blame and excuses but none that were 100% always to blame. Did seem like Google knew about it though. So who knows. Just glad you were able to get in one way or the other. :)
I'm trying to calculate my caloric needs based on my activity level. Let me know if you think this is high or low!
On Livestrong.com at the Plate they have a calculator. I can't decide if I'm very active or extremely active-- I do exercise almost every day... typically a 20 mile + bike ride, a 3 mile run or stair sprints.
But anyway, I'm 5'6'', 158 lbs and it's telling me that in order to lose a pound a week as an extremely active person I can eat almost 3000 calories. Or to lose a pound a week as a very active person it's about 2400. That seems kind of high. Could it be that I haven't been losing that much weight because I haven't been eating enough? (1500 net calories including making up for calories burned by activity)
I really don't know much about what level of calories anyone should be taking in (though I agree those numbers seem high). But I do know that it is not uncommon for people to plateau because of not getting ENOUGH calories. Seems sort of counterintuitive, but it isn't really when you understand the body's way of conserving energy stores. So although I have no idea about you specifically, I did want to add in that it is possible that someone isn't losing weight due to not eating enough. (enough of the right things of course, if only I was not losing due to not eating enough Reese cups and Mt Dew.) :)
I think it's high. When I plugged in my numbers it said I needed 2551 calories to maintain my weight. That's about 900 more than I eat/day.
They do suggest you use a lower activity level and then track your exercise separately. That might be more accurate.

Yeah... that's what I thought!
Although, I think I wasn't getting enough protein before for the amount of exercise I was doing and made a grocery trip specifically to get protein (tuna, fat free cottage cheese, chicken breast and eggs!) so I always have it around!
I think it's weird that on the Daily Plate when you enter in your exercise it subtracts it from the calories you've already consumed so you have to ingest the same amount of calories you just burned to reach your total. I mean they must have some kind of sound reasoning behind it, but I wish someone would explain why, you know? It seems weird. If it tells you you need 1600 calories a day at a certain activity level, and then you add your activity for the day (let's say you burned 350 calories) and it's saying now you need 1950 calories... does that not seem counter intuitive?
I did a hard 50 miler today so it said I could eat over 3000 calories (supposedly burned over 2000)- I'm with you, it doesn't make sense. I'm trying to stick much closer to what it said with no activity. It does seem to be helping me make wiser food choices since I have committed to logging everything that goes in my mouth.
So, count me in. Current weight: 164. Mini (two month ) goal 150. Ultimate goal, 130 (haven't been there since 1992).
I've just started recording pretty much everything on fitday.com, shucked my cruiser for a Trek 7.5 WSD, and I've been riding 50 miles a week (for the last two weeks), anyway, with just minor aches and pains.
Laid off in May, so I now have no excuse not to ride (and it's been glorious, what it's done for my out-of-work anxiety, you wouldn't believe).
Time to get back the spiritual and physical health sapped by crappy work experience. And hopefully, interview for jobs much lighter.
Hi All!!
Back after a 12 day vacation in Victoria BC & San Juan Island. It was great! But, 12 days of restaurant meals (and not recording WW points, since it's a total crap shoot with restaurant meals) has taken its toll. Despite 375 miles of bike riding, 3 runs, 1 kayak trip and miles and miles of walking while siteseeing, I'm still up 3 pounds. But woohoo it was soooooo worth it. I truly believe I could live on scones. Really. I'd be 500 pounds, but I think I could do it. :D
Soooo, my starting weight is 131 pounds. Goal is 125.
Wishing everyone a successful challenge!
Susan
Since I weighed in early last week before my long weekend w/ my sister (you guesed it lots of eating, drinking--no biking). So this weeks weigh in will be tough..since I weighed myself this weekend and I am UP from my starting weight I submitted. BUT I'll see if I can get back down to my starting weight. Just makes my goal a bit tougher. But the tight pants is killing me!
I have time...Friday is still a few days away!
I"m not playing this month, but thought I would update from the last challenge. I've been off the bike for two weeks since I blew up my knee on the 400K, so thought for sure I was putting weight back on. I tried on "the dress" this morning, and it zipped right up, and now, is so loose on top that I'll have to wear a strapless bra under it to fill it back out. Can't win... :D
Put in the updates. I have to say that using the daily plate thing really is helping me make better choices too. I'm not obsessing so much on the calorie numbers since I'm not sure what to believe as far as how much to take in. But I'm so less inclined to eat something like candy when I know I'm going to be putting it down there. :) And that second Dew of the day hasn't been seen since I first started logging. :)

Newbie here...I submitted my current weight and (2-month) goal last week. But how often/when are we supposed to do weigh-ins?
We weigh in once a week. Most do this on Friday and that is the date in the chart (though earlier today I saw that it had a December date - oops). But others do it on the weekend or on that following Monday. Whatever works best for you. You will see that on Friday a lot of folks will be checking in with their updated weights though.
Thanks, Possegal.
My weight yesterday was 148.
oh, nm, we're doing *this* Mon/Fri...just ignore me, my brain is fried today.
My brain is in a permanent state like that, no worries here. :)
Oh excellent, I love it up there!
And heck, if you can't splurge on a great holiday like that, what's the point?
(says the one who this past weekend could not resist the great pie made by Raleighdon (Mimi's DH) and had plenty of ice cream to tide herself over :D)
Whups! I forgot to update with the whole deathride thing.
7/10 - 135.5
-- gnat! (can't wait to get under 130 again. That's what my driver's license says)
Ok, really gotta get serious...I knew my pants were tight, and I had problems w/ my zipper on these pants--but MY ZIPPER BUSTED today.
Good think I have a long blouse on!
On the bike trainer to watch the tour tonight fer sure!
My big dream for when I reach my goal weight is purchasing some really good jeans like "7 for All Mankind" or "Citizen's of Humanity."
I have a long ways to go . . .
Every pound I lose I'm putting $5 into my piggy bank :)
Oh I like your dream limewave, and the idea of putting a little money away for each pound. I may have to steal that idea. :)

66.1kg today.
I wasn't going to join this time, due to lack of progress last time, but stepped on the scale this morning  and thougth I better had do. If you don't mind me joining in late, that is.
My current weight this morning is 217.4. My ultimate goal is to get back to where I was 10 years ago at 175, but for this challenge, i'd be happy with any loss at all. Hopefully reaching 210 by the end of the challenge isn't too unrealistic.
Thank you all for the motivation to at least try!!
