Today was my last day of conferences and it just worked out that my last two were with really awesome kids. It was a nice way to end a tough week. I thought I might be up for running this afternoon... but I am wiped out and just want to veg.
I hope to get in a run and a ride this weekend.

Oh and nasty mom's kid - right back to his usual tricks today. Taking someone's "money" (token economy in my class), passing notes during a test... whatever.
Only able to run 1x this week. I have had a bad cold that I can't seem to get rid of:( Next week should be better...I hope:o
Made it out for my long run today, thankfully the wind had died down over the night and it was great weather for running. 10-12 Above w/ only 6mph winds! :D
The training schedule I have printed off told me to run 9miles today at a 11:50 pace, but I accidently ran 10.5 miles (wanted new scenery so chose an alternate route) and ran at a 10:57 pace. I was comfortable with the distance and the pace which was good. The last mile my tummy was growling though, guess I need to eat more prior to any run over 8 miles or bring gels out with me again.
Mmm, chocolate milk post-run is fantastic!
Anyone else get out today?
Just did my longest run ever, 12 miles and I didn't let the pouring rain stop me! My dad did the first half with me (his achille's tendon has been acting up :() and I was able to finish the second half with no problems. I feel great.
Compression socks anyone? I'm going to throw some zoot ones on (a gift from my mother) right after a hot shower. I hope they help, as I have an indoor triathlon tomorrow morning!
Congrats on the long run Minn!!! :D What a great thing to share with your dad.
I don't have any input on the compression socks, but I do hope that your legs feel 100% tomorrow during the tri. Best of luck!
A question for those of you who do longer distance running... what type of water bottles/fuel belt are you wearing?
I'm planning to carry a gel flask for the Fargo Full & HIM during the run portion. I thought it be simplest to have it all at my waist. The pockets in my tri tops are only so big.
Last day of recovery week :( I decided to walk again today but I booked it!
I am still not outside - it is really icy and a regular runner slipped and fell - I am just not going to risk it.
I did 3 miles walking and was done in a little less than 38 minutes! that worked out to about a 12:40 mile  that is faster than I was when I started running! the racewalker lady was there too and I know I sped up just so she wouldn't lap me :D I don't know how she does it - she is just a little thing, about 6 inches shorter than me and older, my guess she walks about a 12 minute mile!
My right hip flexor is really tired. Walking is hard work :(
my calves are feeling better so hopefully I will do better on Tuesday when I have a 7 mile run again.
The plan for tomorrow is to go over the border into Manitoba and go x-country skiing at the park. Not much winter left (thankfully !)
Eclectic, I don't blame you for not chancing the slippery stuff. I don't run when it's icy at all, not just to avoid falling down but you can slip and twist a joint and be sidelined for a long time - if not permanently. Not worth it.
I got in 5 miles today. It was about 40 degrees out but sunny, so it was chilly at first and then very nice. Yesterday I went with my husband to do stair and ramp climbing. He's training for a Scout Venture Crew trip to the Philmont Ranch in the New Mexico mountains and they train by climbing stairs and parking garage ramps at City Hall or various other locations.
Urlea, I usually carry my bike water bottle on shorter runs. You can get a carrying case that has a strap and pockets for cell phone, keys, etc., which are nice, but I usually have enough pockets (shorts, etc.). On longer runs, I use a lumbar Camelbak Alterra. I don't recall its capacity, but I used it for 7-10 miles in the summer. It also has some pockets for gels, keys, etc. Everybody seems to have a preference - carry a bottle, lumbar Camelback, lumbar pack with bottles, can't carry anything - just depends on what you get along with.

No running or walking today but did drive up to Manitoba (just north of the Peace gardens) for some GREAT x-country skiing.
Minn How in the world did you do a 12 mi run 1 day and then an indoor tri the next ? ? ? ? I want to be like you :D
Finally got out for a run (about a half hour) today on some local trails. It was 60 degrees! Almost all the snow is gone from the trails (few patches left) but now there is a lot of mud. Is spring finally arriving?
Hi all! Well, I've just read through all of your run posts. You guys are rocking with these long runs!
I have spent the last two weeks being a weenie running... on orders from the PT. Actually, things are progressing, slowly, but progressing. I've been getting biweekly "massages" (there is NOTHING relaxing about these ... think of stabbing pain), and using the STICK at home and stretching a lot!
But in the in between, I started walking, then walking 2-3 minutes and jogging (ok, shuffling) one minute. Worked up to 2 min on, two min off. Woo hoo! Now we're cooking with gas! But it feels good to not be terribly in pain after, so I am definitely following instructions and taking it slow.
I went to a tri clinic Saturday, and they had us run on the treadmill x 10 minutes. I took it EXTRA slow at 5.5 mph, but did it without any issues. I think I'll get there in the next few weeks, to where I can actually go out and run 3 or 4 miles without an issue.
Keep your fingers crossed! You guys are keeping me going with all of your posts! And to those of you with calf pain... DO NOT PUSH IT! Respect the calves, or you'll end in my shoes (or slippers instead, as the case may be )
