I just saw this post. I hope your otrtho visit goes well and get well soon.

Oh nooooooo!! O gosh, girl! I'm glad you weren't hurt worse than you were. Oh poor arm. I hope your ortho can wave his magic wand and make it better.
In between playing telephone tag with the police and the md. it's been a day!
the PD wanted to know the damages to moi and the bike(TBD)
The MD - I have a radial head fracture - they can't cast it without permanently reducing ROM(range of motion)- so I'm back in a week for more x-rays, and then hopefully PT. So no more biking for 2008:(
That sucks!
Oh NO! That really bites! I hope you'll find something else to take pictures of. I'm going to miss your ride reports! Maybe they can be walk reports?
Anyway, get better fast!
I'm so sorry for your injury Fredwina - but glad it wasn't more serious too.... Perhaps you could climb up on the trainer or go to spin class (if someone would kindly set up your bike for you)? Will you have some sort of bandage or splint to show that you are injured? People are surprisingly kind and helpful if you have a cast (plus they won't grab/bump/touch you there) when I had my cast I was heartened to hear from my trainer that doing free weights with my non-broken side would help keep me from losing as much strength in my broken side. I looked weird at the gym doing one armed curls, chest presses, lat pull downs, etc,( somehow I never worked up to any 1 armed push ups:rolleyes:) but at least I felt like I was doing something positive. Plus, you can get some endorphins going there too. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Take care! Tokie
Umm Fredwina, do you hike? Why not do some hiking in de mountains you folks have in Californiaayyaayaaaa..??
You'd still be able to take cool photos!
So sorry Fredwina! And I agree that it is amazing and a relief that you weren't injured worse! Cars are so much bigger!:(
I join the rest in wishing you a quick recovery and hope you can get some great photos from your own two legs :)
Oh crap!
Oh shoot, hope it heals fast and good as new, man that sucks. :(
I've got a fiberglass splint covered by an ace bandage. I may try and do some hiking
Aw, that stinks. (((((Fredwina))))) Be careful hiking, you don't want to get someplace where you lose your footing and reflexively catch yourself with the bad arm :(.
Thank goodness for no cast and starting PT right away, anyhow. Hope it heals up quick! Make sure they give you the good drugs especially for before your PT sessions!
{{{((( FREDWINA )))}}}
... um, at least it's in the dark of the year?
Hoping that things aren't typical and somehow the perp doesn't get to drive around for a while.
I am so sorry about your injury.
At least 2008 is almost over with...hope you heal up quickly! Sending good vibes to you.Quote:
So no more biking for 2008
It's really tough when your hero can't ride! get well soon!!!
So sorry to hear about what happened. Do you have any more details on the location of the fx? I know you said distal head of the radius. Was it displaced??
no said anything about displacement:o
from my laywoman's prepective at the x-rays, there appears to be a chip in the bone right where it starts to flare for the elbow.
So it sounds like a few fx as you mentioned one was at the distal end/head of the radius which is near your wrist and a chip at your elbow too. Did you mention that you are in a splint type of cast vs a plaster one?? How long do they want you to keep it immobile? I know you mentioned about having to start PT. Let me know what you find out, I am an OT and we also work with people who have had injuries to their UEs ( arms). I may be able to give you a few ideas to talk with you therapist or Dr about.
As for the hiking, that would be great, just becareful you don't slip...Yikes.
I just went back and re-read your post, sorry my mistake, for some reason I thout you had mentioned the distal end of the radius. Hope your appointment goes well and if you have any questions re: therapy let me know and I will answer them if I can.
Fredwina, I am so sorry to hear about your accident.
Is the fire affecting you? I just heard about it...looks bad but it also looks like it is becoming contained.
nope, so far. Jiffer is a lot closer. It's at the the 15 freeway and Sierra in Fontana, and i'm almost in Upland: http://www.dailybulletin.com/ci_10790210
Fredwina -- Hugs to you and hope you recover smoothly. I just read this and am a bit behind. I'm glad it's not turned out any worse than this.
Take care of yourself. Hope we hear good news about the bike, too.
I got a new splint, which puts my wrist in a different position. I go back in two weeks.
I was just thinking about you! how are you feeling?
new splint better?
It's more confining , and puts my hand in an awkward position for activities of daily life
Fredwina - So sorry about your broken bone. I broke my radius ice skating back in winter '03. It was relatively minor, compared w/your break. Just a sling--no cast, splint, etc. I started moving it right away so I didn't lose any mobility (heard horror stories). Hurt like a Dickens and I was thankful for my high tolerance for pain -- wouldn't accept pain meds from the doc. Just turning my hand was enough to make my eyes tear up. :(
It's a good thing you've been started on PT already.
Keep us updated on your progress! Sending lots of healing vibes your way.
I haven't started pt yet - now two week away:o
I hope your arm heals well...poor thing! :(
heard from the Insurance, they're not disputing the guilt :) this sounds like it may be drawn out- they will not pay until i'm healed . Any idea how to hnadle this? I also want to make sure Blue Cross gets reimbursed - as I have an indivdual policy and don't want my rates to go up
maybe i should get tested for Alzhiemer's- I Left my wallet at Albertson's this morning.
Let your insurance take it up with their insurance. Then stand back and watch the fur fly.
Just went through this myself. The auto insurance wants to wait until all treatment is complete before they pay out on anything. I'm sure they want to just cut a single check and then have you sign something to release them from further liability. It stinks because that puts the burden on you to handle the expenses until they pay you back.
I tried to give them the info on my medical insurance so they could pay them back for my medical expenses. But, they told me they wanted to deal with just me and it was up to me to reimburse my medical insurance company. I contacted my medical insurance company anyway -- partly to be sure they would still cover my expenses and partly to give them the opportunity to deal directly with the auto insurance co. They are in communication with the auto insurance company but told me it is pretty common for them to just deal with the injured person and leave it up to you to reimburse anyone else. It's still a very good idea to keep the medical insurance company in the loop.
I recently had my final doctor's appt and submitted the paperwork to the auto insurance company this week. We'll see how it goes with getting a settlement and closing things out with my medical insurance.
I hope your healing goes well and you feel better soon.
I meet wth the Ins adujster on Tuesday - if havn't done this before, it's like testifing in court- A lot of work and talk to an attorney first unlike moi:(
I now have an attorney!
his name is Gary Brustin(www.bicyclelawyer.com)
he is the one who adverstises in the back of Bicycling Magazine, and he came to talk to our club last night
He not only specializes in Bicycling accidents - but is member of the California and LA County bars (which is where the accident happen)
He did say that we have it 90% by the ins admitting thier guilt. the main is to make sure they don't get too cheap.
he works on a % of settlment
He wants to see the bike tommorrow.
Good for you, glad you got an attorney. He will take care of you. BIke attorneys are the best!
Fredwina,
Glad you have representation. Just make certain that there's enough $$ left from his fees to cover your costs - medical, bike repair, etc. I'm sure he'll have this tidbit covers. What's the use of him being paid, but not you?
And maybe not all personal injury lawyers are snakes in the grass. Not to cast any dispersions on reptiles.
As a cyclist, is he prepared for the horror of the evil damage done to your bike?
I got the splint off and get to start torture/PT friday!(2/week for 4 weeks)
Hmm. Been through a variation of this. Your bills, expenses and anything else including lost wages and pain/suffereing ought to be covered in the final settlement. This is what you have a lawyer for: to determine all that, project for any future medical cost, pain and suffering etc. Don't let them pressure you into signing the settlement before the lawyer gives you the OK.
Your personal health insurance should NOT go up.
In my case, it was an auto/auto situation with the other driver one hundred percent at fault. My auto insurer handled all the bills and then went after the other guy for reimbursement, I was completely out of the loop on that after I had provided my claim info. I am not sure how health insurance works, but given that every time we do anything to ourselves we have to fill out one of those "who can we sue/who might have some liability here" forms, I would think you could work withyour health insurer. ???
FWIW, an average percentage for a lawyer to take in these cases is around 30%.
33%
And he said that Anthem will wait till after the settlement, and then ask me to send them thier poritiion of the settlement.
Happy splint-free dancing! May the PT be worth the pain...
I wasn't too bad, plus I got a whole bunch of new toys!
went around execising, then got massageed, and then the pain began:(
I get to go on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:15am:eek:
