Have you named your bike?

Or: if you're a LOTR fan - the stallion ridden by Arwen in the chase scene with the Black Riders is named Blanco.

Sidenote: the female stunt rider that did that ride fell in love with Blanco. When the studios were done filming and put the main horses up for sale she couldn't afford the asking price of Blanco plus one of the studio bigwigs wanted him. So Viggo Mortenson (aka Aragorn) outbid the bigwig, bought Blanco and Gave him to her. When she tells the story on the behind-the-scenes DVDs she cries (and so does Kathie aka CorsairMac!)

I've been thinking about this a lot...and I think I've come up with the theme to name my bikes.

You see, me and my DH each have 3 bikes each that we ride...and that made me think of a certain blended family from television land....

so I'm thinking that my Santa Cruz, the bike that gets the best of everything must be Marcia. And my Torrent, the bike that gets Marcia's hand-me downs must be Jan. And my Giant road bike, the one with curls, must be Cindy. hahahahaha

we haven't quite figured out how DH's bikes can be Greg, Peter and Bobby (are those the right names), but we'll figure it out! Oh, and, hey, what was the house-keeper's name? that's what we'll have to call the purple cruiser!! heehee

what do you think? silly enough for a spaz like me?

Not yet named my bike Just got it a few months ago..have a few short rides in. Maybe after my first couple races something will inspire me for a name :o

LBTC - love the Brady Bunch idea-- especially since your hubby would have the other three-- so you would officially be the Brady riders. :rolleyes:

Actually, no. My hubby is the bike namer. Eric (the Red), Rosebud, Sonya (Warrior Princess), Mathilda (because she waltzes), etc. Though I did come up with Binky (the pale horse who rides through anything - you Terry Prachett fans will get this one).

I thought that too until I took the Hornet in after his first time playing in the sandbox and bless his heart, my LBS guy said he'd take good care of her. I said no actually this one is a He and the LBS guy apologized to Hornet for calling him a she!! *sigh - just breaks my heart he's married ;) *

In doing a search for other white horses, lookie what I found....isn't he a beaut? My heart does a flutter-thing for these Arabians.... but I've always admired the Lippizaners, as well. I saw them in Fresno when I was a kid. Hmmm...maybe I can find an individual Lippizaner sire/dam as a namesake??? Good idea, Spazz, I like it! Zany's a good name, and somewhat describes my personality, as well. I'll let ya know what name I finally choose. I can see this may be a hard decision.

Do you know the names of any blue horses? I need a name for my new bike, too.

I had a blue poodle that I rescued from show-dom. We went fishing instead. His registered name was Prince Hubba Bubba.

I decided to name the new lemond Ferris. Watching the movie again for the 1000th time, and I've gone by the quote in my signature line in life for several years. Might as well dedicate the new love of my life to my favorite movie character :D

Yea, I do believe you're right..... but then again, dapples turn white as they age. Even so, it may be a stretch...... ok, nix Merrylegs, then. :D

Going with Spazzdog's idea about the Lippizaner, though, I looked up a couple websites, and lo and behold, I might have found a name! What do you gals think of "Contessa"? It even starts with a "C"... (Flicka...Fuji ;Contessa....Cannondale). :p I'll have to see if I can find a pic of the mare.

Now.... I have to get to work on Nuthatch's blue lovely.....hmmmmm :rolleyes:

Can you tell I'm having fun, here? This is becoming addicting... :cool: It seems apparent that horses and bikes are two subjects that may qualify for some self-help groups out there. :D

and Tennesse Walkers are an awesome horse to ride. When they hit their "walking" stride it truly is like being in a rocking chair. Yup, been there done that and would jump at the chance to ride another Walker. They say you can carry a glass of water on the palm of your hand and not spill a drop when a Walker is "walking". Just a thought!

They're beautiful to watch, that's for sure, although I've never had the pleasure of riding one. Paso Fino's are also known for the "no-spill" test, but they are very small...my toes would be dragging the ground!!

it's why i refer to my bike(s) as ponies.

And now that I ride a zebra it seems doubly appropriate. :p
