Grog, if I really wanted to save money on electricity, I'd stop using my air conditioner. Drying my clothes in a highly energy efficient dryer is a drop in the bucket compared to what it costs trying to stay cool in the summer time. Throwing the bike shorts in with clothes that are going to be dried anyway doesn't cost any more, either.
But yeah, I respect the sentiment! ;)

Me, too. I have some el cheapo Nashbar and Hind shorts that I bought in 1995 or 1996, and they are still going strong. Machine wash after every ride, drip dry.
Now I have 3 Terry Commuter Skorts and a pair of Voler shorts and a pair of Ibex 3/4s, so they are taking some of the work load of my old shorts. They also get washed in the machine and drip-dried after every ride.
I'm a super sweaty monster (salty-crusty sweaty!). The washing machine is my friend.
Actually I find that what really wears off my shorts is the rubbing from pedalling, not the washing. They sort of wear off around the crease of the thigh, inside the leg. I've changed my saddle position a little so it might help in reducing the lycra-chafing. That's where they break down first...

I am not advocating that everyone wear panties under their shorts, though it seems that most here are stating that panties should never be worn under biking shorts. :confused: :rolleyes: I just am saying what works well for me and am relating a different side to it. :)
You are very lucky not to sweat "down there", Lisa! My chamois is soaked after most rides, unless it's quite cold or a very short ride. Undies wouldn't make much difference at all. I am just a sweater. :D

Hey Emily - It's nice to have a "sister in sweat". If someone isn't sweating after a 90 degree ride, then they can't be riding very hard. And Lisa if you truly as freshly scented as you claim, I am envious. When I get back from a ride the first place I want to be is in the shower. And the cycling clothes? Right into the washer......after every ride. Then at least I can start off "fresh as a daisy". :D
It's true....I rarely get sweaty or stinky, even on long hot rides. Only when it's over 90 degrees and very humid. Heat does not seem to bother me as much as it effects other people around me. I do get cold more easily than others in the winter however!
On my occasional really hot humid rides I "do" throw everything into the wash afterwards.

I wish I could call myself Fresh As A Daisy Sara! But nope, I'm a sweaty girl. On really hot rides, I sweat right through my chamois and end up with salt lines on the sides my saddle. It's actually kind of interesting because I can see exactly where my thighs touch the seat while I'm riding.
So Lisa, do you drink a lot while you're riding? I'm drinking so much water on my rides these days that I have to stop and refill my bottles if I go much over 25 miles. I must be sweating out a full water bottle every 15 miles!
Oh, and no undies for me under my shorts, but to each his own...if undies work for you, go for it! I want to start a thread on bras under jerseys...I would sure rather go without!!! But that would be a completely individual thing as well.
Well, I prefer to ride with a bra. Yeah, it is just another sweaty garment that needs washing when I get home, but the thought of my nipples constantly rubbing against the jersey doesn't sound remotely amusing. Seems like it might sorta "ruff them up".Quote:

As to bras...I am fairly small up top and don't really "need" a bra around the house. (I still fail the pencil test) :rolleyes: But all that bumping and bouncing on my bike rides would drive me absolutely crazy!!! Especially on all the gravel roads! :eek: Feels good to be "safely strapped in" while on my bike.
I don't even want to admit how many pencils I can hold. Too many.
My boobs performed their purpose admirably, and deflated promptly into the sort of thing you see in National Geographic when they were done.

I've always really liked tank-tops with built-in bras, and I'm loving my Terry Eurohalter. (from right here on TE) I sweat HUGELY, but the Eurohalter wicks it away and keeps me quite comfy on rides. (I wear a shirt or sunscreen pullover over it on rides)
I've been told the Eurohalter is quite attractive on me....:D
BTW: I sweat so badly "down there" that I dare not wear anything over bike shorts except skorts or very dark capris. Like, real dark. Like, black. Better yet, no capris. Just bike knickers or skorts. Cotton is NOT nice over my bike shorts. Oh, no.

Edit: all right, I'm doing the pencil test. I'm using Pigma markers, cuz I don't have pencils. Ok, Pigmas don't work, they fall out. (2 on the left, 1 on the right.) when I had actual pencils available I think I had 5 or 6 on the left and 3 or 4 on the right.

I also avoid having to wash shorts by washing them in the sink and hanging them to dry. Since I only have 2 pair, this way I always have a pair that is not at the bottom of the laundry basket.
OK, I'm not even going to start discussing my 34 DD's. Lawd, I wish I could share with some of you ladies. :p People actually PAY for these? :eek:
