I did this ride yesterday with Kalidurga and divingbiker, but it's among Kali's favorite routes. The C&O canal runs from Georgetown to Cumberland, MD, so 180 miles. We rode at 12+ mile stretch from Rileys Lock to White's Ferry.

A couple of snaps from a favourite road and trail ride. The trail ride is super easy but lovely when you want to take the mountain bike out for a spin but not have to work hard. Its very beautiful. The other two are from a road ride near my home.
I probably will never get to do this ride again, but it was awesome. La Bajada Hill in New Mexico. That's my boy descending. This picture really doesn't do it justice.

Below is my fiance piling up the climb section to the MTB skills loop in Hamsterley Forest near where we live in County Durham UK. It was really misty and damp yesterday so it made everything slippery and pretty dangerous and exciting.
The second pic is the top of the loop, pretty forest background with a big warning sign, telling you where the nearest hospital is and how to get there! :eek:

Well, this may not be my favorite ride but this was my ride into work this morning. Just gorgeous. I loved it. I couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Too bad my picture taking isn't up to par with the loveliness of the day.

Here is a picture of a small waterfall I see on one of my rides.
I don't have a picture, but I saw a fox while walking on a local path today! (I rode there yesterday.) That was pretty neat.
This is where I started from Saturday where I had a nice little picnic before my ride. The old bridge in the foreground is Rt. 462 crossing the Susquehanna River. (The bridge in the distance is the newer Rt. 30 bridge. The pilings between them is, I believe, the bridge from the Civil War era that was burned to slow down the "enemy".) It's very peaceful before the boaters show up. ;) The second pick is a unique flower bed in front of one of the river houses. The third is on a different fav ride. It's from inside a covered bridge on the way to my brother Darrell's house. The fourth is just a cool dude hangin' out in front of a store by the Covered Bridge Ride we did last w/e in Bucks Co. (I was gonna get his #, but with that hair, he's just way out of my league. :rolleyes:)

I do not post here very often anymore...no horrible reason just trying to avoid the "guilts" at work for not doing what I should be...I do however continue to lurk and absorb all the wonderful stories and accomplishments! Thanks for those beautiful shots! My mother went up to her mountain property (Ashe county, NC) this weekend and said that the leaves were just stupendous this year. From your photos, I can see that she was not kidding. Even here in central NC, the trees are getting awfully pretty!Quote:

This was from my favorite ride earlier ride this month in the Netherlands. There is a bike path that runs along the canal and we rode from near here to Vianen - about a 30 mile ride, complete with headwinds.
We rode through the town of Kinderdijk, which is the home of 19 working windmills. Though none were operating at the time of the photos, we did later encounter one windmill being preped for starting up and we were able to go inside one to see the massive wooden gears inside. The miller has to actually climb the blades like a ladder to set the sails, then manually turn the turret around into the wind to start it up. But if it gets too windy, they have to slow it down and take reefs in the sails so the blades don't go too fast. If they turn too fast, it creates intense friction in the wooden gears, and, well, they catch fire. Not a good thing.
This was truly a beautiful and wonderful ride, but windy.

It was a lovely morning for a ride and wonky hamstrings bedamned - I had to try a slow climb (against doctor's orders).
Crenshaw Boulevard is famous for the gang shootouts as it goes through South Central LA, but by the time it reaches the South Bay it is transformed altogether. It goes up the hill of the Palos Verdes Peninsula and ends at the top, with a view overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
I took this shot with the marine layer still hanging on a bit to the water. Sometimes, when you see the cloudline is below you, you feel like you're sitting above the earth. The hillsides are mostly browned because of winter, but there are some excellent MTBing trails through it. Off in the distance to the left, the peak rising up through the mist is the top of Santa Catalina Island, which is itself a wonderful place to ride and home of a popular triathlon.
I think my hammys are toast, but sometimes its worth it :p
I feel you. Riding that Memorial Park loop will only take you so far. (1.1 miles around to be exact, ha ha) We're going to Brazos State Park this weekend with our MS150 team to train. Hope that goes well. People here are so mean to cyclists. I almost got run over by some guy in his midlife crisis (aka his convertible). Blech. I have got to move.Quote:
