Didn't want to be passed by a girl I guess....

A couple of years ago at the TDF Joseba Beloki (sp?) had a horrible fall. I think his back tire blew on a hairy descent on a hot road. It was when Lance did his best cyclocross impersonation as he rode thru the field.
Anyway, when Beloki fell he kind of slid in a spectacular fashion. So now I call all falls in that manner "doing the Beloki". Poor guy though, he's never been the same since then. Sad too, he was a good racer.

Aren't we lucky we don't have those male egos. They get in the way of having fun and enjoying life!

I just got back from my ride tonight. I was on a bike trail and at a cross street pulled up behind two men riding. I said hi, so did they. They crossed, I waited for a car and crossed. About 50 feet down the trail I caught up to within passing distance. They went from single file to doubled up so I couldn't pass! And rode that way the whole next 5 miles until we split at the next cross street. And I know the one with the handle bar mirror saw me. Men and their egos!

I can see how frustrating this could be. But how do you know it had anything to do with gender? :confused: Their action was definitely rude, but I can't come to the same conclusion that this was a male/female situation.

I think gender does come into play a little -

My BF and I used to go riding together all the time, him on a schwinn hybrid and me on a schwinn leisure bike. He had skinnier and larger circumferance tires plus was stronger. I was always pushing to keep up and usually was half a block behind. (we did have a talk about passive aggressive behaviour patterns:p

I was sick of always being behind so for that and other reasons I bought a Specialized road bike. NOW I could keep up no problemo.

On one windy miserable day I was drafting off him and he turned and said "Haven't we ditched you yet?" OOOOOHHHH not a good thing to say :mad:

He is overall very cooperative, polite, fun, and just an all round nice guy UNTIL a girl passes him

My favorite happened last year at a sprint tri in Tucson. I was grinding up a 2 mile climb (mine road) and I finally decided that I didn't need to be tucked in behind this guy as he was going too slow, So I passed him. He didn't like that and got me on the down hill. But I also passed a young stud on a mtn bike. I think his calf had a 24 on it (as in 24 yrs old). Of course he was on a mtn bike, and me on a road rig.. so it made sense that I passed him. But I found out on the run that he apparently did not appreciate it. He caught me on the run and said "hey, thanks for motivating me on the bike there".. I realized that I had passed him and laughed to myself thinking "yeah, must stink to get smoked by a fat chick!!" :D

Perhaps he *did* appreciate it. Fat or thin, I'm going to be motivated by somebody passing me. He even thanked you (now, would he have reacted "heh heh heh " if *you'd* fallen trying to beat him, that's the acid test...)
