I rode 60 miles today, only one hill (a little difficult, but fun to come down!), and got an early enough start that only half my ride was uncomfortably hot. And I only encountered one ******* driver, who was on the OTHER side of the road (I was not even remotely affecting his drive) and who felt the need, from the comfort of his $90,000 Mercedes, to flip me off as he drove by.
Here I am at Monticello Dam:
Friday I rode 14 miles in a local park with Winding Road and her SO. Yesterday I drove to southern Indiana for a private mountain bike clinic to reinforce my new intro/beginner skills. No mileage, not really, but was on the bike in the direct hot sun for 2.5 hours or so, then off into the woods for about another 30 minutes.
Today I had too many errands to run, and while I could have ridden chose to take the night off as I will ride tomorrow, as well as meeting with my trainer both tomorrow and Tuesday.
My riding schedule is SO different this year from last summer! Then again, I wasn't learning how to mountain bike last year :)
VERY hot and humid weekend here in NC. Saturday I only managed a 12.5 mile round trip to the farmer's market and food co-op for some wonderful summer goodies and other food. After that, it was just too hot and sunny to continue on.
This morning I did 23.5 miles in humid, overcast, hot conditions. Sun came out at the end, which signaled the end of my ride. No huge mileages, but I'm glad I managed to get out at all considering the heat we've been having. We've been under "excessive heat warnings" since Wednesday!
No riding lately as I've been stuck working (60 hrs this week alone) and the humidity has been just unbearable. Living through you gals for now... Going on vacation tomorrow thankfully. I have beem pondering on taking bikes with us, but headed south and I think may be worse there in Tenessee.

Did 20 miles this evening, 16mph average. We have a veteran of racing in our group ride today and let me tell ya, I learned a lot just watching him. Tried to keep pace with him too. it was fun but challenging, my legs hadn't recovered from Fridays hills just yet, so every climb was a little less graceful than usual (oh hi, wrong gear!).
Was fun though, I hope he doesn't get tired of us slowpokes!
Yesterday I rode the Tour de Parks 10 park ride which was about 15 miles, plus 3.5 miles to/from light rail. It was sunny and hot but had a great time. Today rode the Portland Sunday Parkways-once clockwise & once counter clockwise! So that was about 16 miles plus the mileage to/from transit.

The place was packed with people out enjoying the sun and water and scenery. We stopped at the former Alki Bakery, it now has a new name and owners, and I just can't recall the new name of the place but the food is still delicious. I had a sandwich, ice tea, and macaroni salad. Before heading back I took a few pictures

As we neared South Park (South Seattle area) we noticed thick smoke in the sky and watched as a half dozen fire trucks passed us.

We finally got close enough to see what was on fire and it was an apartment complex. I could feel the heat from the flames all the way by the road where we stopped to watch for a few minutes.

My Garmin had a weird glitch on yesterday's ride. When I looked at it around mile 47 it looked fine but at the end of the ride when I looked at it instead of showing 70 miles (which was the mileage for today's route) it showed 1,699.5 miles! I sent an email off to garmin and hope they can explain this one!

When I uploaded the ride from my garmin to my garmin site it showed the route plus a veering off east across the united states out into the atlantic and back before continuing on back to Sumner library start.

Just zoom in on the map and you can see the route with the by pass east to the Atlantic and then back to the route. I can't wait to hear back from garmin and see how they explain this! :rolleyes:
Yes, I got to meet Radacrider in person, and she Rocks! We rode, chatted and she imparted good cycling wisdom which I gladly soaked in. Had a good time.
A good saddle makes a heck of a lot of difference. ;) By all means, let's try to meet up again. Enjoy your vacation--you've earned it!Quote:

The speed thing... I got a similar comment today from a husband and wife after today's ride. I kept leapfrogging the husband (I'd pass him, he'd pass me...), and the wife would pass me at stop signs (I stop at them even if they're clear so I can grab a drink), but once I got going again I'd pass her. I think in a lot of ways I still think of myself as being where I was last year or earlier. I'm starting to realize that consistent riding (and a saddle that doesn't damage things!) has changed things.

Susan, that is awesome! The Garmin glitch, that is, not the fire. Looks like one of the satellites went on its own little field trip. Wheeee! Any word back from Garmin yet?

Aside from crossing a busy road twice, I chose quiet rural back streets and had the road to myself most of the time. True to form, the Aurora gave me an awesome ride that left me wanting more-even after 16 miles. However, I had to return to work today and did not want to be hurting. With such a big gap since my last ride, I'm not in my usual mid-summer condition. It was great to get out again.
