Thanks, Ms. Wahine! Am having a ton of fun, too! It's very addictive stuff.
Crankin---interesting, no? I had no idea, either, being a relatively new runner. I too was pleased that I didn't get any acute injuries, as so many others seem to.
Here's my feeling about this. I would not keep running if I had an acute injury. I would stop and let it heal. But chronic fibromyalgia pain is a little different, and I'm not sure most doctors understand this. If I think it's fibromyalgia-related pain and not due to a serious injury, I will probably keep doing whatever it is. There's less payoff in stopping, since there's no guarantee it won't come back when you start up again. I just consider it to be part of the "inflammatory body" syndrome that I live with.
So....I am continuing to run. It does not hurt on the bike. I see a PT every week. I use ice bags. I stretch. I keep running. If it flares up, I might skip one run but then it'll usually subside enough so that I can do the next run--it'll hurt, but not horribly.
The other thing I would use as a gauge is---if the pain is changing my gait, I figure I should stop or I will incur overcompensation injuries. That isn't happening. So...it's all a big experiment for me, running and the hip pain. But my feeling is I don't have much to lose by continuing, and I would lose more if I stopped. I'll keep you posted. And Minnie just posted again after her half Iron and talked more about her hip reaction after the race, in case you're interested.
