Still no word! Here is an article saying that Nixon will make a decision soon. Geez, it's already embarrassing.

There was a great reply to the Tour of Missouri controversy on St. Louis Today.
I swear, Missouri could find 1,000 tons of solid gold under the state capitol building and still figure out a way to go broke and scare away tourists and businesses in the process.

I just read something today in the Rolla Daily News that makes it sound a "little" more like the Tour will go on this year, but it's still not definite. Both the major of St. James and of Rolla talked of the impact of the tour on their respective communities. Seems like there was talk of it being decided by Friday.
Does the governor know or care that last year, as a host city (we saw the end of a stage), Rolla had full hotels and motels, busy restaurants, people buying gas, that the Tour put Missouri S&T (and my building!) on INTERNATIONAL NEWS....the list goes on and on. People were here, watching the Tour live, from around the world - not just from Missouri. You cannot convince me that these same people would have come to Rolla had it not been for the Tour.
I just hope it continues. The Ozarks are a WONDERFUL place to ride!
My humble thoughts.

I can't see how anyone will benefit if the tour doesn't run. It won't affect me personally, but I will still be sad to hear if it doesn't. I can't imagine being someone who trains to ride (and maybe has travel arrangements worked out) only to have it cancelled last minute. I can't imagine being the businesses who prepare...by now supplies, some perishable, have at least been ordered. It's just bad, bad, bad all around if they cancel it. I hate political crap!

The only OTHER reason to go to Rolla is to visit Ft. Leonard Wood. Not that this is always a good thing.
My grandfather lived in Rolla for a long time in his young adulthood, but ultimately settled in Joplin and then Chicago.
Here's to the Tour of Mo! I hope they keep it going because next year I might actually get to spectate.

WOOHOO The tour is on!!! The race administrators agreed to be 100% transparent about their spending and Jay Nixon released the funds.
I feel they should use the private funds for anything that could even remotely be considered an 'extravagance'. Public funds should be used for all the basics.

That's wonderful news! I'm glad to hear it.

:D:D:D At least I won't have to camp out for three days to save my spot on the side of the road (TdF)--maybe one day! :D:D:D
Those email campaigns sure do work--I'm renewing my TrailNet and MoBikeFed memberships right now;)
