+1000 on commando! I have enough issues with saddles (less now with my new one) that I don't want them complicated by seams and other stuff.
"Other stuff" of course includes damp clammy undies...
Go commando. The problem is that undies can introduce slide and therefore friction and we all know where that leads. . . .
RUG BURN!
And nary a rug in site.
This question comes up over and over.
Again- I wear cotton panties when riding, I use a hypo-allergenic hand cream there, and I have NO problem with seams, 'clamminess', friction, or other issues, even on a 70 mile long ride.
Everyone is different. Try both ways (it's simple enough to do!) and then make your own decision.
I also go commando, once i tried it there was a huge difference. also quality of knicks also makes a difference. i have a pair of GOS women's specific knicks and also a pair of custom knicks that the LBS that i ride with got made. I can't believe the difference. The LBS knicks i don't have any discomfort after a 100km ride, but after about 40kms with the GOS once it starts to hurt. The less the seams between you, the knicks, and the saddle the better in my opinion.
