Sending positive vibes to DH and YOU. Sometimes being the caretaker can be as hard. When DH has been seriously ill I have always gotten sick because I worry so take care of him and you. I know he is in pain and racers/riders that can't ride sometimes are just a bear to live with. Best wishes! :)

He was released from the hospital yesterday :D
He is still in a lot of pain, but he has this thing that numbs his shoulder (like novicane) still attached to his neck, and tons of pain pills. Fortunately, my in-laws are wonderful, and they are helping to take care of him so I can go back to work (which I am not really excited about doing!).
4 days in the hospital was more than we were expecting, but there were not any complications. It was just that painful! The x-ray people said, "wow, I've never seen this much metal in someone's shoulder before." Great.
Hopefully the staples (all 90 or so of them) will be out next monday.
Thanks for all of the well wishes. It has certainly been rough and exhausting, but I am grateful for good doctors and their ability to help fix it!

Now the real work starts. :(
Keeping the healing thoughts coming.

Yikes! Does he have a ball to keep administering pain drugs or something? After my dad had his colon cancer surgery they sent him home with this fanny pack with a ball of liquid pain drugs. When it ran out he just removed the hairline needle himself. It was wicked cool and made post-op much more comfortable, just curious if that is what you were talking about. Glad you have help, that is a seriously injured patient!

Hey! My dad had colon cancer too!
George got that cool ball thing to take home too! They told me it was kindof like an epidural and novicane combined. Then, he also takes pain pills by mouth for the next little while. If he is feeling good, he can take that needle out of his neck tomorrow or wednsday. I think the ball thing is cool too. I think he should keep it in as long as he can!

A group I am sorry you are in with me- Dads who had cancer but mine is alright these days.
That ball thing is pretty cool though, we did kind of razz Dad because he had a "purse" for his. It was like this messenger bag thing to hold it. They also gave him some cheesey fanny pack for his chemo drugs, like they were on a mission to turn him into a goober tourist or something. :p
I would leave it in as long as possible and I don't like taking the pain pills but yowsers 90-ish staples, metal, shattered shoulders!

Glad to hear surgery went okay and that George is able to rest at home.
Sending healing thoughts and hope recovery & PT go smoothly.
