Every 140 years there's a major quake on the Hayward fault ... the last one was about 139 years ago. :eek: So it's not if ... when. I was happy to find out while tearing things apart here that the hovel is earthquake reinforced. I think of my bikes as part of my emergency kit.

Bet nobody remembered I was working on a 300 ton sand sculpture here in southern Cali yesterday when it hit? Very scary at first! Then realized my sculpture is probably more stable then most building here.No damage at all for us. Thank goodness considering today is our last day after working on it for a whole month. That would have been bad! :eek:

Brandi! :eek: :eek: That would have been bad. :( Glad your sculpture survived.

Trek, one geologist said the earthquake is predicted to hit with 90% probability in the next 25 years. He also said that at the current rate of fossil fuel consumption that our reserves will be exhausted in 50 years. My dad, who is an engineer, feels that some of the earthquakes are caused by the oil drilling. If his theory is true, we could be in for an interesting ride on the seismic wave.

Hey Brandi, I DID think of you. I was remembering what you said about the vertical portions being so hard to construct. Glad everything is Okay and you are finally going home even though only a short visit. We did feel it here in Glendale where I am on the 16th floor of a high-rise. No problems though. Just waiting for the BIG one on the San Andreas.

I know. It is scary, especially, as within the past few months, our experts at Cal Tech have done an exhaustive study predicting a great earthquake on the San Andreas, originating in the Salten Sea area and working northward toward the Palmdale/Lancaster area. This is predicted with almost certainty to occur within the next 30 years and will have a hugh impact on all of Southern California. I have lived here all my life and have always been interested in geology (in my "next life" I want to be a geologist, ha, ha.) Unfortunately, yesterday's earthquake will have no effect whatsoever on relieving the strees on the San Andreas. For those who are interested, you can go to the USGS.com website and view all the earthquakes which have occurred in the recent past. It is amazing how many small earthquakes we have constantly, but they are too small to be felt. The earth is very dynamic and the tectonic plates are moving constantly.

Every time I think of the ideal place to live in the U.S., my first thought is California... UNTIL I remember the earthquakes. No thank you, I'll pass!

I like it just fine in New York where the possibility of natural disasters is about as low as can be... We won't talk about the other things that happen here, though. :rolleyes:

Lol I was driving when it happened and had no clue until the girl at Sport Eve asked if I felt the earthquake.

And then the texts started coming in asking if I am ok. And I had no clue why they were asking.

Ahahaha.

It was fun! ;)

I had a few out-of-town (Swedish) friends staying with me, and I think they had a blast. They're excited to go home and tell their friends about it :rolleyes:

I saw this video this morning...I can't believe the guy who just drops his bike to run out of the store and then all the other people stampede over it. I could never drop my bike on the ground and just leave it!

I was wondering which bike shop as i didn't think Chino Hills had a LBS(which is what the announcers were saying).
