I figure my body only touches my bike in three places: my hands, my butt, and my feet. Therefore, I don't skimp on gloves, shorts, or shoes.
I've found the brand and model of shorts that I like and I buy one pair each year, which even at $100 I can justify. I have quite a collection now. When the old ones get saggy after about 5 years, I put them in the winter shorts drawer and only wear them in the winter under tights. The tights keep things, well, tight. Even when they get some holes in them, I can still wear them in the winter under tights.
I guess I'd get rid of them when the chamois wears out, but that hasn't happened yet.
DDH, check on Team Estrogen's website. They have alot of clothes for hard-to-fit women.
Well, I have looked on Siera, Rei, and everyone I can find, and none of the ones I thoght I might like were in a xxl. I will just keep looking and if any of you find some great deal let me know, and I will be on it. If I find some I will let you know too.
Thanks Karen for the shorts.
I've already responded to DDH offline, but I thought I'd point out that we have a "size finder" feature on our website here:
http://www.teamestrogen.com/shopBySize.asp (You can find this link on the green navigation bar at the top of any page)
Click the size you're looking for and the type of garment you are trying to find, and VOILA! It shows you what's IN STOCK in that size. If it's not in stock (even if it originally came in that size) it doesn't display.
I just did it for "XXL" and "Shorts, Road-style (lycra), padded" and it produced 20 results.
Hope this helps.

DDH- on the slowfattraithlete website I found this!!! Now's your chance to really let them know!!!:D:cool:
"NEW! Sound off on plus-sized tri wear - and the lack thereof! Have you been suffering from the lack of plus-sized triathlon and athletic wear? I know I have. But recently I was contacted by a marketing person for a very well-known technical fabric company (I was asked to keep the name of the company quiet for a while until they've finished their project). This person is doing research into the market for plus-sized women athletes and wanted me to tell her what I thought people's needs were. I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with this one gal and told her everything I'd ever thought or heard or read in my interactions with other Athenas and Clydesdales.
But I think that this company should hear from you directly. So send me your ideas, gripes, fondest dreams about athletic wear. Send me your stories about apparel that works/doesn't work, unrealistic sizing ("That's an XXL? I don't thinkso!"), feeling excluded at the sports store/race day t-shirt table, whatever. I will forward your emails to this marketing person so your voice can finally be heard. "
Sporting apparel really is stupidly sized. Yes I have wide hips, but I'm not overweight at all. I have to wear XL biking shorts even though from looking at me you'd think I was just a size medium woman....pretty average sized. In biking tights and capris I usually wear mediums or sometimes large...but never XL.
What is UP with bike shorts??
(and yes the XL are quite snug on me, I do know they are supposed to fit snug).
Hey DDH..I have some very old mtn bike shorts that might just fit & an old jersey. They're not worth much now and don't want any $ for them as i've not even looked at them for about 2yrs. I am happy to have a look @ the sizes when i venture home tonight.
Yep..old shorts are here but old jersey is being used as a bike cleaning item now.....
One pair is very similar to this http://www.groundeffect.co.nz/produc...il-TOM-WOM.htm but mine don't have the button.
