lunar eclipse

It's clear here and there were loads of people and cars all up near the dog park where we could get a good view. I'm quite sure my camera took very poor pictures, but it was so nice to stand up there in the cold with the dogs and just watch nature be amazing. It's slightly orange, and fully covered. I can see it from the warmth of my zen den now. Yay! Time to make some dinner and keep an eye on that beauty.

We might get the chance to see the satellite that the Yanks are blowing out of the sky, too......I'll let you know if we see any of that!

Good picture! I missed it, I was in class. Even if I wasn't it was cloudy out.

2 degrees outside and crystal-clear skies in east-central Indiana -- perfect night for an eclipse! And what a gorgeous, peach-colored moon it was! Another wonderful science lesson for the homeschooled children here at Johnson Academy.

I was lucky enough to see it before I had to leave for work. It really was a beautiful sight. I know that one of the planets next to it is Saturn, not sure what the other one was.

The skies cleared up exactly when we needed it. That *never* happens. I gotta go sacrifice a goat or a virgin or something....

DH and I went outside last night to catch a bit of it. Brrrrr...clear and cold (especially when wearing only sweats and slippers!). I had forgotten about it until he mentioned it.
Popokui_Nui...that's a great picture. Is that hooked up to a telescope? DH mentioned being able to see the rings of Saturn with a good-ish tele (I remember we used to have a semi-decent one when I was a kid and could see them). Any pix of Saturn?

It was clearly displayed in central Missouri. Beautiful!

According to a Reuters article (by Peter Griffiths) I read this a.m., "The Moon will be in front of the Leo constellation, with the bright star Regulus to its right and Saturn to its left."

Wonderful photos, Popokui_Nui! I went for a late run to enjoy the end of the partial eclipse and the totality. It was cold but clear, and strangely dark. It was supposed to be cloudy but was very clear, perfect conditions!

PN, your photos are amazing, as always. What a blessing it was last night to have clear skies.

Alas - clouds and more clouds and to top it off MORE SNOW!

I'm so tired of shoveling. I pulled something in my shoulder girdle this morning shoveling - OWWW

Thanks for the comments. Regina: yes, the camera was attached to a special fluorite telescope. No pix of Saturn yet, but I should have some soon if the weather holds.

Ya know, the coolest thing about last night wasn't the eclipse (although they always amaze me), it was the people. I had about a dozen or so visitors at the telescope, including several children. Everyone asked questions, and we had a nice tour of the night sky. But the children had that wonderful, glorious, wide-eyed awe of the sky. I absolutely love that! At mid-totality, I let each child punch a couple of buttons on my laptop, play with the telescope focuser, and take their own photos thru the telescope. Later last night I added each child's name, date, and location to the photo they took and with the parents' permission I emailed each of their photos to them. They were thrilled! I never get tired of sharing the night sky with anyone keen enough to learn.
Maybe, just maybe, one or two of my little visitors last night will go on to study with sky with the same passion that was ignited in me so many years ago.
