susan,
We had 5,200 feel of climbing at the Horsey in the first 50 miles. Last year, if they had published elevations, I wouldn't have gone!
...and Brown County - YUCK! Nothing better for climbing in Indiana! Maybe we'll be there too!
Fairfield is right across the road from Hampton - so we'll see you there! Of course, the western line of Georgetown is only about a mile from the eastern line...so nothing is too far:rolleyes:

Silvers, let me get back to you regarding dinner. I'm planning on doing the ride with a couple I know from my training ride and I wouldn't be surprised if we ate soemthing before driving down there early in the evening. That's what we did last year. Once in Terre Haute, we registered, got our bikes unloaded, our gear laid out and went to bed.
Susan, I don't know much about that Bloomington ride, but one ride that my friends do every year and love is Hoosier Hills. It's usually in mid-September. http://bloomington.in.gov/parks/hoosierhills.php. I was just coming back from BRAT last year, so I didn't do it.
Also, there's a club ride called JAWS in early June that's good (and hard). It's put on by the Central Indiana Bicycling Association. It's not a fee ride and you can just show up on the day of. It's one of the few centuries that the Club puts on and there are other route lengths offered. I did the 58 mile route last year and that was plenty for me after having done the century at the Horsey two weeks earlier.

How often does this sell out early? I told DH about it last year and how I wanted to see Kentucky (never been). We didn't think his nursery would let him free to make the road trip but they might! The Horsey is our 5 year wedding anniversary, I think riding is the way to spend it. :D

Aggie, I don't think it sells out for I know last year there were several people registering the day of the event. Please come to Kentucky for the weekend it is a beautiful place to spend a weekend and hey the people are very nice as well. Hope to see you guys in May.

Aggie, if you've never been to Kentucky, this is definitely the part of the state you want to see:)
Mile upon mile of rolling hills and horse farms. There's a history and charm that goes back generations there...
Marcie, might it have more demand this year since they have new routes?

Mr. Silver,
I have no idea what awaits us this year for I'm not all the familiar with the roads in and around the Lexington/Georgetown area. Just remember you will be in Kentucky and there aren't many flat section. I think it is fair to assume there will be some small hills, medium hills and big hills on the century.

Hey gang, I just made a reservation for two nights at the Comfort Suites in Georgetown. I checked the Hampton first--given Silver's recollection that that's where they stayed last year--but they didn't have any rooms left with two beds. I don't know for sure who, if anybody, will be coming with me, but I wanted to get a room with two beds just in case. The Comfort Inn's rooms were also a lot cheaper--at least with my federal government discount. I think my double room was $70 a night compared to $145 at the Hampton Inn. There's also a fridge and microwave in the room, which may prove helpful given my "grazing" needs.
Anyway, the suite actually will sleep 6 because of the sofabed so on the off chance that a TEer or a friend of a friend needs a place to stay, I may be able to help out. It's so early to know how the weekend is going to shape up after all.
Anyway, there are several hotels that are very close to one another so even if we aren't staying at the same place, it will be easy enough to hook up.
Let me know if you have any questions!
