I really love this photo. I was still looking good.
One interesting thing is here you can see me heading out with nice high leg kicks. Not so obvious in the finishing pictures, as I'm coming down the finish chute my feet are barely clearing the ground. The contrast is striking.
Great job!
I am in a tri group in SW Virginia. I know a number of people that did the Richmond tri last weekend, and they had a ball. When I saw your pictures, one of the kids in our group was in your swim to bike transition picture! Small world.....:D
Congrats, MD. You finished, and an awesome ride no less. :D I like to think of the saying that the woman who finishes the race isn't the same woman who starts the race. ;)
Your pictures are great! I like the pool to T1 shot where both of your feet are off the ground. Superwoman!!
Those are great photos!
You did it though and you learned from it. I think your cycling time was incredible and maybe that's what trashed your legs? That and maybe all the excitement.
My first one, a sprint, is in September. I am less prepared than you but have come to the conclusion that I am not doing it as a race. My goal is to run without walking....but maybe I'll have to have a contingency goal so I don't beat myself up when I walk :o
One of my goals was no walking. Didn't happen. I'll never know "what if" I had held back on the ride but if I still needed to walk the run I would have been really upset.
The disappointment has faded and the reality of what I accomplished has started to shine.
The Iron Girl triathlon is going to be much harder. My focus with this one is just to finish.
YIPPEE and CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!
You did a fantastic job, and this is just the first of many to come! You should be very proud of yourself. Now that you know the drill- they'll be much smoother. In sprints I still haven't figured out how hard to push myself- sometimes I push too hard and peter out on the run- sometimes I don't push hard enough and finish with lots left. It's hard to get it down. In oly and longer distances it's much easier for me because I can settle into a rhythm.
Love the pictures- thanks for posting them!
Pat yourself on the back and get ready for the next one- you're going to do GREAT!!!!
Congratulations on finishing your race! Your pictures turned out great! Good luck on Iron Girl. :)
MD you did great. It seems to me that it wasn't too long ago that you were concerned with finishing the swim. Well done. I also really like your very honest report. These kinds of threads are very helpful for people new to the sport.
CONGRATULATIONS!!
Thanks. I've now had enough time since the event to lighten up on myself and appreciate what I have accomplished. Yeah, it hasn't been very long since I could even swim 300m. I definitely learned that competition is not quite like a practice session, a good thing to know.
Now, I've got my eyes on the Iron Girl Triathlon on August 19. I've got my first open water swim tomorrow, doing the actual tri swim route. Again, I'm only just at the point where I can swim the 1000m distance in the pool. It will definitely be an experience! ;)
btw they just posted the professional photos
Those photos are great! I especially love the ones of you on the bike, you look so determined!
