I am a bit confused about circle swimming. Do you mean in a lane each person would stay on one side only?

At most pools here they have a slow, medium and fast lane with signs noting this.

Interesting info. All the pools I have been to in Aust we always did circle swimming even with only two. I actually prefer that.

CC Circling swimming is where you swim up one side and then back down the other. I havent found the need to do that here as I always get a lane to myself .

So here is my question in the USA which way does the circle go?? In Aust its up the left and back down the right.

The people at my gym won't share a lane either - usually it's not needed, but when it is, it just won't happen. (unless I'm there with friends and we just take over a lane to ourselves). The other day, I had one lane and noticed somebody come in and sit on the bench. Since the other lanes were full, I asked him if he wanted to share, and he looked at me like I was crazy and proceeded to sit there for 45min waiting for someone to finish. And he was there with a wet suit, and appeared to be a triathlete!

When there are two people in a lane each can have their own side and go up and back one their side at their own pace. When you get to three everyone needs to go up one side and back down the other side, rinse and repeat. Since you are following right behind someone else, it's good is everyone is pretty well matched for pace. Many pools will have signs designating the lane speed. Mine does not and chaos reigns.

We usually go up the right and down the left, counter clockwise.

LOL - Im glad I have always had the lane to myself over here and haven't had to worry about that. Its going to be bad enough when I get home trying to get use to riding on the other side of the road again never mind trying to remember clockwise instead of counter clockwise.:D
