Karen, that's a great ride. Lots of wide open road, it appears. And you go by a raptor habitat? That is way cool!
Fredwina -- so THAT's what Rancho Cucamonga looks like. The one thing I miss when I go back to Dallas from LA is mountains on the horizons. So beautiful.

I didn't even think of the Filppi's pic as as being a prison:eek: but I could see how it would look that way. The Building behind is their retail store. The only reason I can think for the fence is that I was on a six lane (with Bike lane ) street, so It's probably to keep folks from helping themselves to free "samples".
Speaking of prison, maybe I should go to Chino, nothing like cows, inmates, and antique airplanes...
Fredwina, so you are near Guasti? I'm trying to place it because part of it looked like you were the other side of the canyon from Upland. There is some great riding down there though! I miss so much of it though I remember the days of having to leave early in the morning due to heat. I still think I want to keep bikes down there (or get cases for ours) because we are down so often. One of my training rides used to be from my parents (San Antonio Heights) down to Baseline up Padua and up to the turnoff from Mt. Baldy to go down Euclid Crescent West then back up to my parents. After Christmas, we hiked up the canyon then back out the other side and meandered around R.C. for a while. Good times :D

I'm at Vineyard and Foothill in "Rancho" , I rode up Vineyard to Baseline(the park pics), then went over to Benson and up that. it turns into 21st at Mountain, I took 19th back through Rancho and eventually go back on Baseline - The winery is Filippi's at Day Creek and Baseline, not the one at Guasti (They may have built Day Creek since you left). I then took Etiwanda to Arrow , and Arrow back home.
That training ride sound like fun. Not!:( . In case you're wondering, there about 2 miles of 10% grade. My club now goes up that as part of the Saturday ride(starting from the Victoria Gardens mall.
There's some fun sculpture in SA Heights that I've been meaning to post pics of. Hopefully, I won't embarrass your folks. One's on Mountain, and the other is at 25th and highland
All the shots are taken in Palos Verdes Ca. The first shot is in the parking lot of Malga Cove (yes we have piazza in Calif). Second shot is the fountain at Lunada Bay.
The last three shots are the road where I train in Palos Verdes. The last shot is looking toward my home near the beach. If you look carefully, you can see the red and white stripe smoke stack of a powerplant. my house is beyond that point.

Palos Verdes is so beautiful! And, there are lots of hills, as I recall.
Ok, I know Foothill and Vineyard. We even went to Victoria Gardens though we got horribly lost in the process because nobody seemed to know exactly where it was!
My parents are on the other side...say if you're at the fire station on 24th, you'd go to the right. I think you are safe with the statuary. While there are some horrendously interesting houses up near them, their house is ok.
Now that you think of it, I've seen the Fillippi place on Baseline. It's after you go past the 15...or slightly before, as I recall. I lived in Twin Peaks for a long time so I'd drive either on 19th or 16th to get home after work usually, especially if I had visited my parents. Twin Peaks is by Arrowhead, is slightly before.
Sounds like you have a great training ride! I didn't find the hill that bad going up Baldy but keep in mind, I turned off when you could go back down at that intersection.

Oh, I would give almost anything for scenery like that. Endless fields of dirt and the occassional sight of road kill in farm country isn't the prettiest (or sweetest smelling) of routes. Those mountains are indeed lovely.
:D The only thing I remember about Lubbock is that there is a huge statue of Buddy Holly.
My favorite of all terrain is rolling hills and lightly traveled roads going through farmland.
We actually run two training rides on Saturday - The one that goes up Mt Baldy to Shinn (reservoir turnoff- before you get to fun stuff at the tunnels:rolleyes: ( ) and the easy ride, which basically does what I did fridayQuote:
