Another really cool program for mapping SF Bay area rides is called BikeMaster. It was developed by Don Axtell, a member of snap's & my club, ACTC.
With Bikemaster you can draw up routes in seconds by selecting the pre-loaded roads. The downside to this is that not every Bay area road is in the database, but it seems that most of the roads that cyclists generally use in the Bay area are in there. You can map out routes and get pretty accurate distances, elevation profiles, total climb, and it will even estimate the time the ride will take based on your average speed and how long you generally spend on rest stops. And you can print out very nice looking cue sheets.
You can download a trial version (w/o all the functions); the full version is $30.
