Mtn Darby--how old is your son? My dog is 45 lbs. He's a border collie, maybe purebred. There are border collies that are smaller.
I love Basenjis, and would have liked to get one, but they don't bark and I needed a watchdog.

Tulip, mine is a border collier (mix) as well, but for some reason I wouldn't have guessed that for Shiloh. Maybe it's the ears that threw me? She looks smaller in her pictures which is why I asked. Zeus is usually at 40-42 pounds but has been ill for the past few months and we can't figure it out. He's down to about 36 pounds now....
My son is 6 1/2 and is dieing for a pet of his own. One he can take care of (must be low maintanence), train easily, play with and that will sleep with him. Of course, he's by his dad most weekends so I will share the training, playing duties so this may be a tall order. He would love a cat but I am not really a fan, and Zeus would have a cat for breakfast so it's not an option as long as Zeus is here. Any thoughts?
Oh, here's a little lady I've been keeping my eye on:

Ah.... Lucy is beautiful. I hope they get that knee fixed and she finds a great home.
Here's a pic of my rescue. She has a feeding tube in and is finally gaining weight after some pretty severe damage to the left side of her face and a right jaw fracture. She may end up losing that beautiful left eye -- it isn't visual, and is now getting uclers on it b/c she cannot blink. She is so sweet and happy and friendly! I just love her! Can't wait for her to be a regular kitty!
and I pronounce this "Ginger Day

love all the pictures here :)
jesvetmed, your rescue kitty looks such a sweetie! She's going to be a real beauty when she heals up.
ZEN: I didn't know it was Ginger day... I would have sent her something! :p
LPH: Thanks... I hope you are right and that she heals well. She is a trooper.
Funny, I have trouble thinking of Kelev as a 'pet.' He's more like 'the lord of the house.'

He likes what I like (which is way cool.) Camping, 4xing, hiking, cooking hotdogs over an open flame while watching the sunset :). He's 11 now, and a bit more white than in this year old photo. A neighbor down the street from me found him starving and dehydrated in the gutter when he was about 6 months old, and gave him to me, shortly after my last dog went to heaven. Sharp as a tack but goofy as Goofy, demanding like a Drill Sargent (COOKIE NOW; I WANT COOKIE NOW) and funnier than George Carlin.
Aww you guys, such adorable pets (and lords of the manor!).
Jesvetmed, I hope your furbaby gets better soon - she's a keeper!
TZVIA: Great story about rescuing your buddy! I love a good rescue story!
Speaking of -- my kitty is showing a lot of improvement! She's biting me and the electrical cords with her "broken" jaw, and showing some interest in eating on her own. It's hopefully a matter of a few days before she's able to stop having the feeding tube... Keep your fingers crossed !!! (and keep them out of her way b/c I think she's teething her new ones in!).
Such spirit! Hope Kitty continues to improve and she finds a forever home. And the brute that did this to her rots somewhere. I take it someone forgot to tell Kitty that she's supposed to be feeling bad? Or maybe that she was feeling badly and this is an improvement. Just wait until she's healed! Catnip mice won't stand a chance of survival!
Oooo love all the pictures. They all melt my heart.
Jesvet,
The kitten is so cute. how can anyone think of putting her down. And I hope her left eye recovers. The poor thing has a rough start but sounds like she'll have a wonderful life after this ordeal to make up for it.
and to the kitty, you're really cute. get well soon.
Thank you,
smilingcat
jesvetmed, tell your kitty that life is JUST FINE with only one eye. The only thing she might have trouble with is driving at night when it's raining (I avoid it, but it can be done). Other than that, it's the ocassional bumping into folks in the grocery store!
Mtn Darby, Shiloh's ears are a mystery, but he's definitely not Papillon! He's just got interesting ears. Border collies come in so many shapes and sizes, ears, coats, and color combos. Great dogs (although Shiloh's scared of kids).

Luke, wait for me by the big oak tree, in the meadow of wildflowers. We miss you so much but we'll be together again.
Luke was a beauty. It will be a sweet, sweet day when you meet again.
Sundial: I'm so sorry about Luke. That is the most beautiful picture. Those eyes make me want to cry. Ok... I am. How heartbreaking. When you foster your heart is spread in so many directions.
As for my rescue kitty (AKA "Snorty" -- she snorts like a bulldog due to smashed sinuses :p...) well, the feeding tube came out this morning and she is eating like a pig, and trying to beat up my own cat. I'd say she's healing. The left eye is blind, but the cornea is healing and she seems more comfortable every day. What a trooper. I am so impressed what a cat's body can recover from. She's been playful all day.
TULIP: I'll pass on the advice! I'll have to watch her on the driving!
Jes - great news about your kitty! Glad to hear she's making a recovery.
Sundial - ((Hugs)) to you. What a handsome guy Luke is and I'm sure he will be missed.
I just love looking at all these pets! Makes my day....
Firstly, (((sundial))) sorry about Luke.
Secondly some puppy porn:

Jasmine thinks she is a lap dog and after some wiggling and snuggling she ends up like this.
Shiloh is doing wonderfully; I've had him for 6 weeks now. We have a great time together.
TULIP: Shilo is absolutely beautiful! I've never see a dog that looked like her.
Does Shiloh see a Squirrel????
Him! He's so pretty that people think he's a b!itch all the time
My vet and some other people in the know think he's border collie and australian cattle dog. I know he's got border collie in him, and I've seen border collies with roan markings. He also looks kindof like a pointer coat-wise.
Arielmoon, Shiloh does the same pose, but being a guy, he's really not fit for publication here...
I love sundial's photo of Luke. That made me happysad.
Tulip, Shiloh and your place are both coming along so nicely! I love the shadowy light coming in your windows. So pretty. Great furniture, too.
Arielmoon, that's one sexy beast!
Oh, that's not my place! That's my friend's place. It's a very nice place! My place is coming along. The cabinets are to be finished this week and installed next week. More on that later, when it actually happens.
I thought those were different floors!
Shiloh's coat is just like my Lucy's, but she's Golden Retriever colored. And her face looks like a Wolfhound.
Karen
I think Shiloh is a border collie papillon mix ! :D:rolleyes:
which would have been a very difficult feat for one of the two parents

This past Saturday, we met a very sweet girl at the local shelter. Her name is Leela and she's a lab mix. We feel very fortunate to have her join our family. Luckily she's very smart and has been training me! Even BIAK, who is more of a cat person, is smitten with her.:D

Awww SG she's beautiful! Congrats on the new addition - may you have many long years together.
Heres my girl, five years ago. I had to go to Texas for 10 weeks of training with her. She sniffs for explosives at MIA. She's the best.
The Evil Peanut.
Aw, Leela is beautiful! I've become a regular visitor to the website of our local shelter, and it makes me happy to no end to see when someone gets adopted!
Kermit, you guys look formidable!
10 weeks on a military base will do that too you. The guy that took that picture is really "old school" serious. I was scared to smile.
Lloyd is seven years old. I adopted him when he was three, and he's a joy. The first picture is at Shenandoah River State Park. Lloyd wanted to cross the river, but never figured out how.
