No, her missing ear half was not due to a catch/spay/release. When she was rescued/removed from her home by the humane society cruelty squad, she was one of about 30 cats and dogs living in terrible conditions in a trailer with a lady who had mental illness. Thus the malnutrition and multiple infections. But Suki also had had her ear bitten (dog?) and the top half was just sort of hanging there by its perforations and they could not reattach it so they removed it and sutured it up neatly. She was about 3 at the time. Now her half-ear just makes her even more endearing to us.

Yes Suki is regularly checked out by the vet and she's quite healthy aside from her teeth now. We knew she had bad permanent teeth when we adopted her. She is SUPER AFFECTIONATE and we swear she tries to show us how grateful she is every single day. We are completely in love with both Suki and Sheba. oxoxo :p Adopted shelter animals are the best!

Suki is so sweet! I love looking at the wonderful photos, even though they make me really WANT to test my cat allergies yet again.... (no, I won't, not as long as I have to live with carpet)

The great thing about the photos is their personalities just shine through and it is so easy to tell how loved they are!

We've been battling Bonnie Cat's hyperthyroid disease for 5 years... but yesterday evening her vet & I agreed that it was time to call it over. Now Bonnie was always very vocal, with a running commenary on everything. Silence was when she was asleep. I always figured she'd get in the last word, and she did. She had words for the vet tech holding her, and just to reinforce the message, she swatted her with her paw.

So now she's free of not feeling good being mixed with almost constant hunger. Maybe it sounds crass, but part of me is relieved that it's over. The healthy Bonnie has been gone (including her mind) for a while. Sigh.

Now it's just Calypso and me.

Beth, so sorry you had to let go of another kitty. It must have been so hard to decide when to let go of Bonnie.

I'm sorry to read this, Beth. Having just gone through this, I understand the conflicting emotions. You did right for her, first and foremost. ((Hugs.))

I'm glad that it was obvious about it being Bonnie's time. I think it's always harder when the decision and turning point is not as clear. I too was relieved in terms of making 'the decision' a few months ago when our Pearl was found to have not just kidney problems but advanced cancer as well- treatments and cures were just no longer in the picture and that made my decision to end it much easier, knowing she would only feel worse and worse and have more pain as she approached the end.

Thanks everyone. Calypso engages me in play, especially since Bonnie isn't around to pick on. Got my ankles as I left the bathroom ;). I swear she laughs. Mad game of chase insued.

I look forward to the day when I take a new fur baby to Dr.C and ask the ever important question: "He/she followed me home, can I keep him/her?"

Dr.C. has been a wonderful vet, especially since I arrived in town with 2 geriatric and fragile cats. Nothing quite like getting to know a new client because their fur babies are terminally/chronically ill. OTOH, scheduling Calypso's annual check-up next month will be pleasant. Just a well-patient check, annual shots, see how she's doing on her weight loss (she finished off Herald and Bonnie's special food fairly often, bad on the waist line).

We're doing OK

It's been awhile since I've perused the discussion forums (it's been awhile since I've been active, I guess). I am back in the (bike) saddle and also training for a walk half marathon at the end of April, so I have returned to where I find my best motivation...all you gals. Anyhoo, I saw this thread and wanted to share a photo of Ellie, our Lab. Attachment 12695

As I previously posted, I just had Suki's teeth cleaned at the vet and they had to remove two very badly eroded teeth- a canine and a molar- poor Suki! but the vet and I agreed she must have been in pain from them. I hadn't realized! And indeed, right after the anesthesia wore off, that very night she started playing like a kitten and purring wildly and showing affection like mad- she was really happy!
She acts like a brand new kitty now, and the lesson here is- be sure to have your pet's teeth checked out!

Here is Suki recuperating from her teeth extractions the following day, but feeling grateful and relieved to have those painful teeth gone...

Suki is such a sweatheart! I usually have them check the teeth annually. When I got my new kitty, he has as of yet, an unexplainable habit of sticking his tongue out. I asked the vet if they thought he had mouth issues, like over-bite or something like that, but they said no. Still don't know why he sticks his tongue out sometimes. It sure is funny looking though!

Aw Beth, I had hoped she could have been with you just a little longer....her time with you is just too short. :( :( :( How relieved you must be to know she is no longer suffering and you don't have to dread taking her to the vet for what could be the last time. (((((Beth)))))
