Queen, my congrats to your parents - an awesome accomplishment under any circumstances, but you can tell by the look in their eyes that they are still and truely in love.

I think it is wonderful that your mom is handing the ring to your niece - and that you are in support of it. I hate when people start squabbling over their parents possessions.

Mom's on her 2nd wedding band. Her plain gold band wore through. She had family friend Oppi Untracht melt it down and design a new one...now that's wearing out.

X- You'll appreciate this. How (and why) am I supposed to do standing TL spine films on a woman in a vegetative state??? And, what do they expect to see in an abdomen film, where the doctor is injecting water into a fistula? (That guy came down yesterday, said he had an IV contrast allergy and would stop breathing- so we had him reschedule till Monday when he can be premedicated. Not like our contrast is going to get into his circulatory system, but you never know what the fistula is connecting to...Errrrr....

BTW - I have my grandmothers old gold band and it's worn so thin it's almost razor sharp on the edges. :eek: I tried wearing it for a while but kept cutting myself. :p

Trek - very nice pictures. You look like your mom, especially around the eyes/nose/cheekbones. I love the pictures of your mom in the garden, and your dad eating!

Er, um, wha? I understand your frustration. Well on the first one, I guess you could always duct tape her to the fluoro table and stand it up. (put the tape on her, not the gown or whoops... there she goes! :D ) To play it safe, you could put a bike helmet on her first in case she falls off her "ride". Better keep the crash cart handy... for both of you. :eek:

On the second, geez. What really gets me is, you can tell them it's a worthless test due to the circumstances, and they'll still want it. Get out the physics books and tutor them on atomic number properties in x-ray.
Anyway, have they US'd him at all to get a prelim idea where or how deep it goes? We sometimes do this under fluoro guidance to "map" what we can until they can get premedicated and do it up right. (gets the doc off our butts for a day or two) It's easier in an Angio suite setup.
Or if all else fails, pull on some gloves and just go spelunking in there, girl. ("Mmmm.... the cream filled kind!" - Timone from The Lion King) Oh! Ew!

Trek - wow, big family. Reminds me of mine except they aren't trying to pick a fight during the get together. (I really think my one brother needs medicated, seriously.)

I wish I had some to post but my Dad passed on a few months before I graduated HS. Mom's got all the family pics and won't let them out of her grasp long enough for me to scan them. So, I bought her a nice fire-proof safe to store them in instead. I'd take a pic of my Mom and post it but she'd never talk to me again. Or feed me! That would be too much of a sacrifice, even for you fine ladies. ;)

not really just 3 of us kids. If you look at the "pyramid" in the group shot on the right hand side at the top, going downward are the three of us kids, Duck on Wheels, me, then my bro. Duck on Wheels you can see has a blue vest on. UK Eliphant was not there I think? But we do get along.

The gal on the lower right hand side perched on the stairway arm of the rail as if she'd slid down to that pose is my amazing cousin Dina.

She is pushing 80 now or may have passed that goal.

Duck on Wheels has introduced her to the board so she may be lurking. She rides :D Hi Dina!

The photographer of the shot (used a remote) is my cousin he's in the dark jacket light blue pants to my Moms left. He and his fiance (to his left, blue skirt) do double centuries and crazy stuff like that.

I'm trying to recruit them to the board and then I think I'll have the record. Do I get a toaster if I do?

I'm a doof. :rolleyes: My sister lived in Israel for years, and came to a prenatal class I was teaching when she was home for a visit one time. After class, one of the dads complimented her on how well she spoke English. ...:confused: ... Finally my sister said, "well, I grew up here. With Lise." This guy had constructed this entire story in his head about how our parents divorced when we were young, and Emily got taken to Israel... I guess my teaching about labor wasn't too riveting that evening , eh?

At the hosp now. Two tough labors going on. Stayed up waaaay too late with J. last night, but I figure the endorphins will compensate for lack of sleep. I hope. That + caffeine. Am happy. Yea!

I went to the club ride, no else showed,so I scooted over to a shop ride. rode with them for 15 miles. then split off , did some climbing(with Santa Ana headwinds to boot), and got a metric in! without playing crash test dummy :) :) :) got to try some hammer goodies (yes, I'm becoming a hammer junkie) and it felt really good (aside from the uphill into 30 mph wind part!). Alas, I did not go by San Dimas, so I cannot report if strange things were afoot at the Circle K :rolleyes: Things looked normal at the Upland one.

Addy didn't eat her toad-scented mouse. The toad was scared by this procedure, though he eventually figured out he wouldn't be harmed. That's ok- I still have a few tricks up my sleeve. I am not hopeful, though.

If somehow I can acquire that snake I want, though, the birthday snake, I woud name her Inez.

I saw a funny thing in the yard. A hawk was chasing a squirrel. The squirrel ran up a big tree, in a group of trees, and around the trunk. The hawk tried, and missed. He flew off across the grassy yard to another small tree in the middle of a blackberry patch. The squirrel immediately came down from the tree and headed off toward the blackberry patch. I'm thinking, doen't he know the hawk is there? Why doesn't he stay where he's safe?? The squirrel goes all the way across the bare grass to the blackberry patch, to the tree, and runs up the tree! Was he trying to get the hawk???

Squirrels are suicidal, I swear. From running back and forth in the middle of a road in front of cars to dinking around under hawks to crawling up into attic crawlspaces to die...
Gruh. Too few people are genuinely interested in squirrel hunting.

Anywho...Ian has a cute squirrel story from when he first landed in Vancouver all those years ago. Long story short, the squirrel stole his hamburger patty but left the bun..

We went out to do some laps on the 12hr track and was frightened by the magpies...reminds me of Hitchcock's The Birds..

A baby tiger snake crossed paths with Ian..the only excitement for the day...

I'm not from a normal family, nor am I normal :D Ian & I aren't normal...we like it that way...

UNFORTUNATELY it is not the presidential election. In my state we have a senate race (very important) where the GOP guy is telling everyone that he will act like a democrat when he is elected even though he's in Bush's pocket... I am hoping that not too many people are fooled by this.

Notice to all, my parents are not showing up here either. The last photo i have of them together (and the first one too) is of them both at my christening. (I am not in the photo, can you imagine, they put me to bed during my own christening party!) They are cute and young and happy. I always wonder what went wrong.. well, not that much. I can watch my mother today with DH #5 or 6..
What is a normal family?

Yesterday after I posted here, I jumped on my bike and in the fog rode 2.5 miles down the hill (and up too) to Seward Park, a beautiful old growth peninsula right off seattle. (technically, it's IN seattle) THere I met my friend who has gotten some really strange malady which she believes was caused by her being vegan for too many years. It's an autoimmune thing. She lost strength in her hands and has never gotten it back. SHe's gone from gorgeous to skinny. SHe's having expensive treatments done, I hope it helps.
We walked aroundthe park 2.5 miles in the cold fog. She was freezing. I was feeling great thanks to the bike ride down. Then I went back home and on to 1000 other silly chores.

This morning, it's raining. But it's so early thanks to the change in time that it might have stopped raining by the time it gets light out.

mimi - we have been following the election in your state rather closely. My bil is the Libertarian candidate for senate. After the recent debate he has gotten a lot of press as the only candidate with anything intelligent to say. He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but there are alternatives for your vote.

here in Illinois we have a lesser of two evils choice to make for governor. They are both corrupt.

i have a dog who likes to hunt squirrels. Not the cutie in the av, a mixed breed who we think is part sight hound. She hunts like a site hound - she will stand like a statue, just her eyes slowly moving, until prey gets close enough and then boom, she's off. We think she is about 12-14 years old now, not sure exactly, and she has lost a step, so hasn't caught anything in a while, but over the years she caught a number of squirels and one rabbit. once we were in a park and she was off leash and ran behind a clump of trees. Suddenly this old woman starts shouting, "stop, get off, get off". DH and I are amazed, cause Mamie doesn't really approach people, much less attack them. We go sprinting across the park to find out what is going on when Mamie comes running towards us with a squirrel in her mouth. She goes right to dh, drops the squirrel at his feet and sits down, looking up at him, waiting her praise. Apparently the woman was freaking out because our dog was attacking an oh so endangered squirrel.

It's not the squirrels I have issue with. They are content practicing their flying skills all day long, trying to get on the bird feeders. What determined little rodents they are. It's the groundhogs. Aaaaaaah! They come in and chew off all of the succulent stalks and then just let them lay. Wire cages around the plants don't help. They just climb them. I set traps now, the humane kind, and then give them a new home far away. I had one who really liked the gas grill. He would climb up in from below and lick everything. Ew! I couldn't figure out why the hoses were off and then I saw him. Powerwashed the grill and gave it away at a yardsale. Got a new one that's totally enclosed underneath. Thankfully, the groundhog's LDL should be lower by now and that's what matters. ;)

Good morning everyone!

I was a lump yesterday. The only time I left the house was to take the dog for a walk. I spent ALL DAY napping and snuggling on the couch and reading and playing on the computer and yakking on the phone. A complete and total Day Off.

Today I must do housework. I should also fill out my ballot so I can mail it on time.

Mimi- I didn't go to the Title 9 sale, and won't go today either. I can't be spending the money right now, though I'd really like to. My clothes just don't fit anymore...

Think I'll weed out my closet and drawers again today. I've already got quite a pile of "too big" clothes ready to go to the Retex donation box. Payday is Wednesday and I'll go buy a pair of pants then. Maybe a shirt. Maybe I'll order that Ibex Collo turtleneck...:D

KY mailed my ballot yesterday. there were so many little nitpicking detail things to vote on.
Brina, your bil is probably the best candidate. but like you said, his chance of even getting noticed...isn't too good.

DH just called from the start line of a 100 mile ride in Arizona. He ran into MTKitchen, one of the TE girls.

He was bragging about the sunny and 80 degrees. Well, so what! we have 48 degrees and grey wet stuff. his point is?

Mimi - Where in your back does it hurt? If it's really bad, you need to go visit your doc.

Bend your knees when you go after something on the floor, keep your back as neutral as you can while it's grumpy.

Is it hurting low low low in your back, like between your hips and north of your tailbone? (sacro-iliac joint) If it's getting you there, I can tell you a couple really cool and very easy ways to try to calm that down.

KY I do similar stuff with the worn or shrunk outa clothes. A gal at work helps run a homeless shelter. I shamelessly abuse the compnay mail and ship clothes to her.

This will keep me from growing back into a size that fits them....right? Once the clothes are gone I can't gain weight back. Right? Also the clothes can't come back in style.

And the old towels I take to local ASPCA, they can use them on dog or cat beds...

I tried to get a pic of him doing it, but he heard me opening the door and took off. He was way up in there too. I was sitting down on the couch reading and something caught my peripheral vision. I looked over to my right out the backdoor and just saw his bum hanging out the bottom! I deliberately picked a new grill that was groundhog proof. (I was soooo glad I hadn't grilled anything after putting the hoses back on.) For the new one, I extended the patio with some nice brick and pavers and put the new grill there. In the end, it was ok, I got a rotisserie in this one. :cool: The upper rack is great for corn on the cob too. Ah, I love picking summer corn and grilling it up.

Here's some recent backyard pics. Why in the world can't they chew on some of the other vegetation? I've got almost an acre of trees back there. Gnaw all ya want. The Buddha was used as a stepping stool for one who tried to climb over the plant cage. He's too old to have critters standing on his head. Maybe I should put a bike helmet on him?! :eek:

ha. Tell him that. The floor is for him a catchall.
He's better about countertops... and he cooks. So I've always been in charge of the floor. NORMALLY, it helps me stay flexible.
