Haven't posted to this thread for awhile. Tomorrow I start my pre-colonoscopy (I just turned 50) "low fiber diet". I googled for ideas of what to eat, and it's pretty much the exact opposite of my current diet. White stuff, sugar, meat, all fine. Most veggies, fruits, nuts, beans, whole grains, foggetaboutit! :(
This is gonna be interesting...will be doing low fiber Wed-Sat, liquids only Sun., procedure is Monday morning.
I'll try to remember to post here as I do my low-fiber diet! :D
 if they gave you 'go lightly' be warned: it's a damn lie.
Make sure you get some yogurt or other live-culture goodies post-procedure to help your system settle.
I had no issue with my system after the procedure. I came home and ate a ton of Indian food . It was painful to eat the low fiber diet before, though.
I drank all of that stuff and my doctor said that I still "wasn't cleaned out" that well. Who knows. My DH was so out of it when he had his, he called me from his cell phone in recovery and never remembered it. He slept for most of the rest of the day. I was wide awake during the whole thing, conversed with both the doctor and nurse, and watched the images on the monitor. I didn't feel pain, but I was awake.

Red - What's a wine biscuit? You've had that on your eating list before?
Yum, pumpkin custard one of my favorites
B: 1 egg, 1 piece wg toast, 1 slice ham, cheddar sandwich, coffee
L: bowl of chili with onions, sour cream, jalapenos
Snack: couple of handfuls of mixed nuts
D: salad and chicken breast grilled
It's a kind of biscotti, a hard cookie made with red wine. I think they're Sicilian. They're easy to bake, and last a long time. I made a batch a couple of weeks ago, and my friend made a batch last week, so I'll be posting about these for a while.
They're sweet.
Here's my recipe:
4 to 4 1/2 cups flour
3/4 to 1 cup sugar (I like them sweet, so I use the full cup)
2 t salt
1 T baking powder
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup full bodied red wine
Preheat over to 350º. Mix dry ingredients. Add oil and wine and mix until well blended with a wooden spoon. Turn onto board and kneed for one minute. Shape into loops or twists. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 40-45 minutes. You can brush with an egg white and water before baking for a glaze, if desired.
Edit, they're not good on the bike. They're too dry, and hard to swallow. Learned from experience.
I eat yogurt daily anyway, but thanks for the tip!
No Go Litely anymore. Now I just get to mix some Miralax powder with a certain type of GatorAid. Everything is OTC now. Thank heavens. I heard how metallic-tasting and awful that old stuff used to be. :( I still have to purchase all the official "prep" stuff as I start that Saturday night w/a couple spoonfuls of Milk of Magnesia, then do the liquid diet/prep on Sunday.
Went to the store and stocked up on low-fiber foods tonight...so strange to be looking for things with < 2g fiber per serving! I bought some rice pilaf, canned green bean/skinless white potato blend, little containers of applesauce, pulp-free oj, vanilla yogurt... Will also have chicken and fish, cheese, eggs. My DH made me some white bread for sandwiches (turkey and cheese). This is a big change from my usual diet of beans, kale, spinach, whole grains, whole fruits, veggie/fruit smoothies, etc!
Here was my day today - shameful:
B - Puffed wheat cereal w/spoonful of protein powder, almond milk, coffee
S - Reese's chocolate/peanut butter egg (gift from my mom, very decadent!)
30 minute run
L - turkey/cheese sandwich on white bread, small bottle of pulp-free OJ
S - 6 white rice crackers
D - Mac and cheese, 1 beer
Dessert - couple spoonfuls of vanilla yogurt, 2 thin biscuit-type cookies w/thin spread of Nutella
Nothing green all day. Ugh! :(
I hope I sleep through it and after -- if I'm going to blow a PTO (paid time off) day, I might as well get some rest. My DH was awake for his, but my step-father said he totally snoozes through his. I snooze through "conscious sedation" at the dentist so may be more likely to be out of it. Neither my DH or I has been to this particular doc, so we don't know how much anesthesia they'll give, though I have to have my DH take me there and back due to the sedation.
Well, I react strangely to medication. I know I had Valium, mixed with something else... it definitely did not make me sleep. I could have driven home, but DH picked me up.

One more day of low-fiber, then liquid diet on Sunday...oh boy! :(
Crankin - great job to be able to do two rides in one day!
Cupboards have been a bit bare this week, but finally went shopping tonight - just been too busy!
Today:
B: Steel-ground oats with a bit of PB and skim milk
Strength training with trainer
S: forgot
L: (at 3:00 pm!) Chicken Souvlaki at the Pita Pit - quite yummy but have to always make them hold off on half of the cheese and tziki sauce!
D: Turkey "bacon"/lettuce/tomato sandwich on sprouted wheat bread with cup of roasted pepper tomato Trader Joe's soup. One beer
I think this may be only the second or third time I have done this. And the others were a combo of road and then errand rides. Today I didn't want to have to choose between friends to ride with, so I rode with Hirakikubou in the AM and my friend who is getting the road bike after lunch. It was my first ride with her this year; I was hurting by that time, as I had done a fast ride with DH yesterday after work. And on the way back to my friend's house this afternoon, we ran into about a mile of grooved pavement, which just made my body rattle everywhere.
Back to the eating...
B: wheat chex, 1% milk, strawberries, coffee
S: 1 Banana
L: 2 fried chicken strips, french fries
D: caesar salad, shared dinner with hubby, 1/4 sirloin, two bites baked potato, mixed veges, 1 gin and tonic
Today:
B: Mixed whole grain hot cereal with PB and 1% milk, coffee
S: Apple
L: Roasted chicken breast sandwich with sprouted bread, tomato, and a cup of Trader Joe's Roasted Tomato and Pepper soup and a glass of 1% milk. Pretty much comfort food...
Too damp/raw outside to ride, so headed to the gym for 30 minute fast walk on the track and 30 minutes on the elliptical. Better than nothing...
S: Luna Bar
D: Don't know yet, but will probably feature Trader Joe's chicken/garlic sausage, a salad with assorted fresh veggies and Romaine lettuce, and a beer. Everything else might change, but not the beer :) Dessert will be some fresh strawberries and low-fat Greek yogurt...yum!
Last day of low-fiber eating before my clear liquid diet (featuring much Gatoraid and Miralax) tomorrow in preparation for my colonoscopy Monday - UGH! :(
B - Puffed wheat, protein powder, almond milk, coffee
< long slog to the markets both walking and taking a bus - too rainy/blustery to ride>
S - four thin butter cookies with a smear of Nutella
L - 2 eggs on white toast, glass of pulp-free OJ
S - small cup apple sauce
S - four thin crackers with cheddar cheese, a lite beer
D - 1/2 chicken breast with feta and herbs, white rice pilaf, canned green beans, glass of white wine
Dessert - cup of Breyer's ice cream (last solid food)
Let the "fun" begin.
Best of luck emilync. My partner had one...I'm not sure what he ate or whatever afterwards, but it exhausted him for 1-2 days afterwards. He is abit older than you or I --over 10 yrs. and more.
And this is a guy who bikes up mountains with loaded panniers.
But results indicate he's fine. :)
I have not been eating in a diligently healthy way in past few weeks. part of it is stress, just alot of stuff to do before making another switch in life.. the head spins.
2 whole wheat waffles with walnuts and cranberries, with a bowl of blueberries, strawberries, oranges, 3 slices turkey bacon, coffee
turkey burger with avocado (no bun), black beans, an apple
half a bottle of water+Nuun on short (11 mile) but hilly and windy ride
2 pieces of Machengo cheese after core work/weights

B: miso soup with extra oomph (egg, mushroom, noodles), coffee
L: pecans and a soda
D: bean/posole/chickpea chili with feta and beer
Emily - good luck with your colonoscopy. Glad to see you are doing one; I had two brothersinlaws pass away within 8 months of each other from colon cancer so I'm always glad to see people being proactive.
B: 1 piece WG toast, scrambled egg and cheese sammy; coffee
L: a few carrots, 1/2 an apple, a couple of mexican type appetizers, a sammy type appetizer, 1/2 piece of pita bread with hummus
4 hours of tennis
D: turkey burger (no bun), oven baked fries, avocado, tomato, 1 piece of corn
Wow, I'd starve! I have to have multiple snacks along with my three squares, and you didn't even have three squares (lunch). Don't know how some eat so little and still have the energy to ride.
I am lucky that even at 50, my metabolism still seems to be pretty high. Not like when I was 30, to be sure, but I can eat a fair amount without gaining, so long as I stay active.
Thanks. Today has been tough. Black coffee, pulp-free juices, chicken broth.
It's 3pm, and I am absolutely starved! :( Plus missing out on a gorgeous sunny biking day b/c I simply wouldn't have the energy to ride without food in my belly.
I guess I get to eat a late lunch tomorrow (procedure is at 10:40 am). I can't wait!
Good luck, Emily. At least it only comes once every ten years for most of us.
Just one restaurant meal last night put 2 pounds on me. And Passover starts tomorrow night. Two nights of lots of food. Although I tend to loe weight over the week of eating no bread, even though matzah is definitely a simple carbohydrate.
