Wow. I bought a quiche for dinner at Whole Foods (i know, I know, it's more of a breakfast thing, but it looked good).
Now I can't get that B-52's lyric out of my head: "Quiche! Quiche Lorraine!"

Quiche sounds great! Sometimes I cook breakfast for dinner. We'll have blueberry buttermilk pancakes, bacon, the works! The kids love it!
Have you tried the white chocolate M&M's? They're quite yummy!
I think capris have arrived, the ones that will change my life. But the GT commuter is at LBS still so my life shall remain the same for now.
Off to walk the pooch, later maybe try them on.
Which I've now done and ..... aack, right outa the bag, zipper's stuck. Back they go. Life remains unchanged, no need to lock up the gorgeous hotties.
Ah, but my dear Trek, Susan posted that TE has 3 XL aloe Zoics now! We can get them! The gorgeous hotties will be on alert!:D
(did they fit if you pretended the zipper worked? Isn't the liner pretty nice? do you love the zippered thigh pockets? and they're COTTON!)
My too-small L's fit my friend soooooooo well and looked sooooooo good on her. I have high hopes. (she doesn't need the gorgeous hotties, she needs the gorgeous handsomes. hopefully she'll send the hotties my way :p )
Lise...
A whole bunch of us from the perth mtb site have moulded together and become biking partners/friends etc. Linda and her hubby are part of our mould...
We often go camping & biking and I just try and keep up....:D
Here's what tom posted about the incident-
At the hospital the doctors put her elbow back in, which would've hurt like hell, but she was doped up. She has a cast on her arm, which will be there for 4-6 weeks and then I guess she will have to undergo a bit of physiotherapy to help all those stretched / damaged tendons heal properly. She will see a specialist in a few days, so hopefully we will have a better idea of what the full deal is.
I saw the xrays and the lower arm bone had been forced out of the elbow socket and about 4cm back. It looked bloody painful. I am trying to get copies to post up. They don't have hard copies of xrays at Royal Perth.
Stiff Brush- like an upholstery brush.
Upholstery Head- not powered, but spins a brush really fast by magic or something- great for seats and floor mats.
Flexible Crevice Tool- (when I was shopping for the dyson, the guy at Best Buy showed me why this was a cool attachment- it's the size of a regular crevice tool, but pulls out so there is a black flexible section, so it can bend almosst 180 degrees and not lose suction!!) perfect for vents, radio, under seats, dash, seat cracks. My favorite of the three.
I just stand the whole vacuum on a mat outside the car door, then the hose reaches into the car.
Ooooh - I must find these attachments! They sound most useful.
CC - the elbow injury in detail sounds soooooooo nasty. I'm sitting here cringing just thinking about it. Does she remember any of it? I hope she was doped enough not to.
I am on an endless call with a sales/research person with a company that wants to develop some new technology with an assay I developed. That's all well and good, but this guy talks endlessly... about himself and all of his projects all over the world. Messagenistic (sp?) is putting it mildly. I've heard about the gas chambers where his family was killed in Europe, his great organizational skills on coordinating multi-national projects. This is painful... 1/2 hour of this!
Dyson, eh? How's it do on dog fur?
Fantastically well! I have the "animal" model - it's purple (an happy bonus). I have 2 dogs (both with long thick hair and around 70-80 lbs a piece) and 2 cats. The old cat seems to get stressed and denude himself a couple of times a year, so there's lots of cat hair around. The hair still gets caught on the beater bar, but that's expected. The suction power is amazing! I vacuumed the carpet and then cleaned it with a hoover steam cleaner and didn't pick up any other hair. Now that's impressive. I totally recommend getting one! Emptying the cannister is really cool - it detaches from the vacuum as a closed system and a door on the bottom drops open. No mess and no dust flying in your face. Very nice!
Misogynistic. miso - hate, gyne - woman.Quote:

I don't know about dog hair, but it will pick up four inch feathers and NOT clog and pull all the sticky little poofy white down feathers away from the baseboard and suck the feathers right out of Milly's cage when I vacuum underneath it. It's miraculous. I have the yellow one, The Ball. I think they make The Animal The Ball now, too. It steers way better with a ball. It took some getting used to. I tried it out in the store for an hour before deciding. The sales guy told me that all the different models are the same base vacuum- the only difference is which specialty attachments they come with.
I put a post and two pics up in the June 2 ride thread. Great day.
Perhaps that is a better term. Thanks :) My mind was numb from listening to him go on and on and on and on and.... about his accomplishments. It was a 40 minute phone call with only about 5 minutes of relevant information. My ride this afternoon made it all go away! I'm energized and happy once again. I even did a ton of yardwork later this afternoon. The wind was howling by then - glad I went when the winds were only 15-20 ;)Quote:

Trader Joe's has 'em for 99 cents.
I don't think they are as common as Mall-Wart, though.
There aren't any trader joe's anywhere near here. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
You could also order direct from Clif: http://www.clifbar.com/shop/clif.cfm?location=shop
$15 for 12
REI gives 20% off if you buy 12 or more of any sport-food: http://www.rei.com/online/store/Prod...cat=REI_SEARCH
$12.96 for 12
Still have to pay shipping. Good try! If I'm placing an order for something else - I'll see what deals they have at the time.
What's even worse - they have boxes of 6 for $5.47 which bring the price to $0.91 each. That's pretty hard to beat!
You could buy a whole bunch at Walmart, then make a monetary donation to a food bank or medical emergency fund or homeless shelter to help the folks who work at Walmart make it on the low wages and lack of benefits.
I lived in a little town that got a Walmart. It was pretty devastating. I've become a bit of a passive activist (is there such a thing?). I try to buy stuff only at places that pay living wages and give decent benefits to all employees even if it costs me more. I figure if I'm getting something cheap at Walmart, it's only because I'm ripping the food or medicine from one of their employees for the lower price.
Guilt. Guilt. Guilt. And I'm not even Catholic...;)
I got so sick last night. Rode home from the clinic thinking I was going to puke the whole 3 miles. Wondered how someone like Corsair with a long, uphill commute would've done it. Started puking, etc, once I got home. My sister came over and helped, changed my sheets, etc. I was down for the count. Supposed to start a call shift at 7 am, called around, got someone to cover for me, last puked at midnight, got up at 5 am, ate some saltines and gatorade, came into work at noon, doing ok. Just feel tired and dryyyy. Drinking water, gingerale, gatorade. Praying for a pretty quiet day.
Plus...my DSL and phone lines are down at home. No computer at home. Cell phone OK. All of this will pass...blech.
Oh, you poor girl! Thank goodness your sister could come over to help you. I'm just amazed you went to work after all that!
Aw. :( Feel better Lise.
Thanks, guys. The thing with being on call is that you can't just cancel it, like you could a clinic. The patients will go into labor no matter what. If I'd still been puking, my colleagues would've found a way to cover for me. We're into vacation season, though, and the half that aren't out of town this weekend are already working in a clinic or on call. I still feel like a wrung out dishrag, but the nurses are helping me, and (knock wood), I have only one pt so far, who's not needing much from me. Off call in 3 hr, 48 min!Quote:

I don't know if it was a virus or food poisoning, but it's like that 300# gorilla. You stop dancing when IT says so!
I hope you feel better Lise - that's lousy, especially since you had to go to work. Good of the nurses to help you out. I'm wishing you a quiet rest of the shift.
KnottedYet - good idea on the donations. I detest Walmart, it's killing the local stores. We have the biggest Walmart in the state - in a town of 15,000 people. Go figure. I do my best to shop elsewhere and online when I can, but for some things it's either just way too much cheaper or it's the only option. That stinks, but that's how it is. Hopefully soon we'll be out of here and we can shop at better stores that treat their employees better.
I did tons of yardwork today - after my 28 mile ride this morning. I felt great after the ride, but now from squatting down and trimming copious amounts of myrtle-like vegetation, I can barely bend my right knee. My back isn't too happy either! Aargh! I'm going to do a short ride tomorrow morning more to recover from the yardwork than the ride. I WAS planning to run, but I'm thinking the knee won't appreciate that!
Hope you're feeling better soon, Lise.
A friend of mine from NY used to be an OB nurse at your hospital. How long have you been there?
I got new Mavic wheels for my 10+ year old but much beloved GT commuter.
My LBS just e-mailed me that they are ready and I can pick them up tomorrow.
He says "PS She looks sooooooooooooooooooooo COOL!"
with exactly this many "o"s: ooooooooooooooooooooo.
'fraid now I won't be able to resist having her re-painted. He says he can get a nice professional powder coat, take her apart, strip, clean, repaint, back together for about $175.00.
But if I do that I'll do it in winter when I'm riding less I think.
Pink maybe?
Pink would be glorious!!!
Everytime I go to Walmart I curse and fuss about how much I hate the place. I try to go as little as possible. The difference in quality between the "real" products and the walmart version is just dispicable (sp?) to me. The Kryptonite lock is a classic example. Oops - sorry. I can't help but rant about it. Didn't mean to get you started ;)
Lise - did you survive?
fishdr "Didn't mean to get you started ;)"
doesn't take much these days ;)
ugh.
I survived. I hate to say it, but I was glad when my patient ended up with a c-section, because the smells of birth were going to do me in. Plus, she's 4' 11", and the baby was 9# 2 oz. Not gonna happen.
I feel like my guts are on spin cycle, but no more puking (knock wood). I ate a little bit, am going to eat a little more now, try to sleep. Back on call for 12 hr starting tomorrow night at 10PM. blech.
I feel like I will never run again. I know that's not true, but I just can't even imagine it.
I've been at Masonic off and on for many years. I was a triage nurse at a womens' center there in the early 90s, then a student midwife in '93-94, doing births, and back as a staff midwife since Nov. 2003.
Brina, love your new avatar. Your pup? Name? Story? :)
L.
Lise, I hope you feel better soon.
Fishdr-i too hate Walmart & don't even live in North America...I hated the fact that it was the main place to shop where my mom was living when i last visited Canada...
I try so hard to buy at the small guy type businesses...I feel so bad buying at the big boys...I'll pay extra if it means a small business stays afloat...

did you ever work with a nurse named Annie from NY? She was there for about 2 years, I want to way 2002/2003. I could be wrong, it may have been earlier.Quote:

I don't think I knew Annie. I came back to Masonic at the end of 2003, so she may have been gone already, or just leaving as I was starting.Quote:

I am feeling a lot better this morning. Just weak. The thought of food doesn't make me feel sick, though, so that's progress! And, of course, you know I weighed myself--down 4.5#--whoo-hoo! L.
I figured out this weekend that I am _so_ lazy, I would rather wear a cycling tank than one of my cute jerseys, because then I have to pick a sports bra, and even though I got two new Patagonia bras which match just about everything, they now, for the summer, feel too confining. Then, on my feet, I wear sandals, so I don't have to coordinate socks, even though I have a huge collection of adorable bike socks that match everything. Sometimes I consider the amount of sun exposure I would be saving by wearing a jersey (sleeveless!!) but I just can't do it any more...
On my Sunday ride, four people wore Shimano sandals, and three wore cycling shoes. It's the trend!
Nanci
I had to laugh at that. There's lazy, and then there's lazy. Lazy as in "I can't be bothered to wear certain clothes", and lazy as in "I just ran 50 miles through the swamp and dunes for fun, oh, hey, did you see my pictures from the 600 km bike ride I just did?" :D :p :D L.
I looked at my Shimano sandals this morning, and thought, sooon, soooon!
The weather is perfect for it, but I'm going out of town again this weekend, and who knows if I'll get in a ride before I go. But next week, let the summer begin. Lise stays home. And rides and runs. Wahoo!
Lise, it was only 26.2 mles. The park isn't open late enough for me to do the 50 miles. Actually, the park wasn't open late enough for many peple, ncluding the RD, to do 50 miles...
But thanks for thinking I actually could!
Oh....pardonez moi, she only ran a marathon through the swamps and dunes. Now that is lazy! :pQuote:
