Thread Drift

KN, thanks for the reassurance. It's a minor bruise (what I can see at the edge of the tape), and only sore. I bruise easily, too. This kineso tape is such an interesting idea. I'll google it, but do you know of any good links to learn more about it?

Beta, your cat looks just like my Isaac! Good luck with Sloane. Sorry you have to lose the pretty tires. I just looked at the weather page--:eek: --49 degrees. Sigh. We may have one more flurry of warm at some point. Plainfield guy and I are meeting in OP for coffee at 2pm. Should you happen to wander through Cosi around that time....:p

I just looked at my October schedule. Good grief. I'm never going out on a date. I'm out of town for my brother's wedding one weekend, and I'm working most of the last two. Poor, poor me. I much prefer vacation, in which I don't work, and yet I get paid! :rolleyes:

Plus which, did anyone else notice that beta's been holding out on us? In the past few weeks, she's revealed a dog and a cat and a bird that live with her. What other creatures, eh? And how do they all get along?

LOL Lise. I have a zoo eh? I have 2 cats, a dog and a bird. I used to have 2 birds but one recently died. I have no idea why, he was just in the bottom of his cage one morning :(

Nanci - Bummi is a Senegal parrot as well. She's more sweet than from hell, but there are days when she gets that Senegal screech going that I feel like I'm in hell. :) She's my buddy. I've had her 9 years now, hand fed from a baby. Though not as young as Roy! He's adorable. Love the name.

The bird that recently died spoke. He knew my other cat's name and would call him "Hey Jules". He could also mimic the microwave beep, my sneeze, and had various other colorful words he'd been taught over time :) Bummi isn't so talented. She mimic's my laugh.

So I'm ready to commute: tights, wool socks and a long sleeve top. Is it september or november? sheesh.

beta, how shocking to get up one morning and find a dead bird. Sorry. How do the rest of them get along with each other?

I went for a run this morning, about 4 miles. Not too cold, once I got going. Not a great run. I felt tight, and like my pulse was just going up too high. (not wearing HRM, just perceived exertion). Those are discouraging. But, I got it done. I know I need to stretch more on a regular basis. That will help.

I remember running the 1/2 marathon last Sept 25 in shorts and a t-shirt...what the heck? I hope it warms up a bit again before taking the plunge.

I need a TE minder (kinda like the scientology minders, eh?) to come to work with me today and keep me from blowing my top during our monthly staff meeting.

I'll do my best to meditate on Flosshilde the Wonder Waterford and keep my mouth shut. Pretty campy wheels. Lugs. Campy brifters. Frog pedals. Lavender bar tape. Fast tires.

Yup, feeling better already.

We just found the builder (of the house we're buying) has offered us a $2K allowance instead of sod. That'll work! Apparently they never do that, so this is lucky and good!

I also found out this morning that I am getting the official offer call tomorrow morning. I sure hope they threw a bonus in there!

Mr. Fish is on his way to Ms State Vet school for Roux's biopsy and likely start of chemo. He has these wierd nodules/lesion-like things on his nose. Not pretty. So - think good Roux thoughts today. His appointment is starting right now.

On a better note - it's gorgeous here! I have all of the window's open! Clear day and light breeze. Temps is 74! It's killing me, because I can't go out and ride. I have Fishfry here with me and I'm trying to work. Not having much success at that. Luckily it's supposed to be like this all week, so I'm going to try to slip in a ride tomorrow afternoon.

MP - sounds like you're having fun in Hawaii (except for the hand thing, of course). I hope you heal quickly!

Beta - pretty bird and kitty!

Lise, a lot of birds start out cool- they love their mom that handfeeds them, but then they have a different sort of bond with the human they choose for their mate- usually their owner, but sometimes not! Roy was so adorable when he was a baby, my exBF- the French guy who's in the pics with Dill- used to carry him around in his pants pocket, and Roy loved it! But then he bonded with his real owner, Kelly, and is very protective of her/aggressive to everyone else. Luckily, he sees my grandson as a great feeding opportunity, not an enemy.

I'm not sure exactly how old Choco is. Three-four months? He was started out on frozen/thawed pinks without needing to try any other foods or tricks to get him to eat. Lucky, I guess.

But I got Maizey as a wild-caught adult- she's probably three or four years old. She ate F/T right away, too.

I was fine going into work, but it was a relatively short turn around time to come back home. So I got that nice I'm kinda sweaty chill as I started out back home. Brrrrrrr. I'm with you Lise, I hope this stuff is temporary.

But, Sloane is awesome. You know that feeling when you get in synch with your bike? Had that on my way in today. She's nimble, light and fast. I may need to swap the handlebars out though. They're kinda narrow. Got stopping/starting down pat. Had a couple reminders of "thou shalt not coast" as I got tired :) A fixed gear is certainly a bit more of a workout.

Knot - how'd that meeting go? Your bike sounds fabulous.

Nanci - Bummi is pretty social. She's scared of strangers at first and will be nippy. But as she gets to know a person, she's more than happy to hang out on their shoulder. My other bird, not so much. He was aggressive, even toward me after a while even though he was handfed.

Lise - Bummi hated the other bird actually. He'd tell her to "shut up" as she screeched at him if he got too close to her cage. They had to be caged separately or they'd fight. And yes, the weather is wack. I think after a while all you can say is that it is what it is here and dress accordingly.

Fish - way to rub it in that it's 74 :D Great news on the house bit. Hopefully Roux does well at the vet.

I went in for 4 hr of overtime and was scheduled with *ONE* patient. So I sat there until 4 PM, because goll-darn it, they wanted me there, they can pay for me to be there! Good grief. :rolleyes: So wierd. Dumb scheduling decisions.

0.2494 seconds on the 2nd try (penalized on the first try for jumping the gun. I could tell that sheep was thinking about bolting). It suggested that I, too, needed a cup of coffee, but also rated me "Bobbing Bobcat", so, hey, that's not so bad! :D

best time has been 0.1984 seconds at a rocketing rabbit. it says i'm very alert, hmmm.... not sure about that one.

Salsa - about the bee population decreasing... they are getting hammered by mites (varroa). The lab that I'm going to is breeding a strain of bees that has high levels of resistance to that mite. I'm going to be looking for genes associated with varroa resistance to speed up the selective breeding process.

New perfect food combination: Fudge striped cookies and Shiraz.

Fudge Stripe Cookie Salad

Large Cool Whip
1 small pack instant vanilla pudding
1 cup buttermilk
2 cans mandarin oranges
2 rows fudge stripe cookies, broken

People in Florida want to know why it is called salad, if it doesn't have greens.

Up North, if it has Jello, or Jello Pudding, with stuff mixed in, it is a "salad."

If it has meat and any other ingredient, it is a "hot dish."
