Awwwww, it the tomato picking doggie?
Sorry I asked. I think my head would explode if I tried to understand all that. Or even remember the names of two gods/goddesses and what culture invented them and who they were married to and whether they could throw lightning bolts. Why would a god have to hire carpenters, anyway?Quote:

Adorable wet Corgi! She's Corgi-rific! :D
oh good now i don't have to wonder about who or what Chloe was anymore!
Hey there!
I'm back from BR and we had a VERY successful trip! We found a place for my son and daughter to go. It's not a daycare center it's a learning center. Very cool place. They conduct Preschool - teaching them to read, and learn geography, science, math, french, and so on. It looks like she'll learn more there than she would where she is now. They also take younger children and teach them French, early reading skills, counting, colors, etc. Very awesome place! Yippee!
We also .... da da da daaaaa.... drumroll... found a house! It's brand spanking new and is huge! We paid less per sq ft than we sold our current house for! Yippee! I'm going to put some of the pics on photobucket - I'll let you know when I have them posted.
Mr. Fish made good progress on getting grad school and a job arranged - so yippe there, too!
And - we had a pleasant visit with in-laws! Freaky!
I'll catch up on the 10 pages of TD that I missed tomorrow or so. We have a dinner thing tonight - after driving all day. Fun times I tell you!
Later ladies!
Yay, fish! I had a lab simulation on fish farming yesterday. We had to make sure the fish didn't die or get sick. I thought of you. ;)
Glad you found a house and a good school!
The Norse gods were a lot more 'human' than those of other mythologies, I think. I mean, why would a god give one of his eyes to drink of the well of wisdom? There are some things best not asked.Quote:

Just ate a heaping mound of pasta, and will proceed to veg. I'll be asleep in an hour :D
Thanks for your concern :) I did get stuck in traffic from the Bears game letting out on the way home. There's always traffic isn't there?
I did get a new Livestrong bracelet today. And a waterbottle.
On an unrelated note, have you all seen the movie "Dodgeball"? The character who sets me off the most is Jason Bateman's as the dumb sports commentator. I really liked him on Arrested Development. Before that, jeez the last time I remember seeing him in something was the Hogan Family
Beta! I'm so glad you didn't get slammed with the rain. I hope you drove to Evanston? I'm also glad I didn't try to do the ride. I would not have been up for it, and I have no experience with pacelines. As someone pointed out, triathlon's taught me to stay well back of other riders.
I'm thinking next year will be the 1/2 IM, the Accenture sprint, and then maybe this North Shore Century. The year after that, short runs, sprint tris, long rides. The best laid plans, right? But that's how I see it.
Fish! Great news all around! I am so happy for you all, and looking forward to pictures.

Spoke on the phone with a guy from Match today. Nice conversation, seems like a cool guy. Raising his 13 year old daughter, wife died when the girl was an infant. Main disadvantage at this point: He lives waaaay out in the hinterlands. (Plainfield, for those in the know). I am such a city girl. Who knows though? MW, as always, BR! :D We're going to meet sometime this week. I hope he plans something and invites me. I hate it when the guy sort of waffles, and waffles...I know they're trying to be considerate, or whatever, but it's attractive to me when a guy just makes a plan for us.

KN and mimi--I saw the pix from the Seattle ride! What fun! Sorry it was so chilly for you though. You've certainly got the clothes for those rides, though. :D

I cleaned out my basement storage locker today, and I threw away all KINDS of stuff. Stuff I was saving from my former life, basically evidence of my misery. Journals, paintings I'd made. I did a little ritual before hand, and burned one page from the journal I kept in the last year of my marriage. It felt wonderful to get rid of all that stuff. Some is going to the resale, most went into the garbage. My locker is so clean and organized now. It won't be a battle to find things. I also brought up the "fall and winter" boxes. They'll live in my bedroom for a month or two, no doubt. I haven't figured out any more gracious way to do the seasonal transition thing.
But... there are so many NICE people in Plainfield. I had a teacher who lived there and commuted to work *every morning* I think it was close to an hour drive. Nuts.
True! And he seems to be one of them. Where did you live when you were growing up?Quote:

I have a general idea where that is, but we must be talking about different Plainfields. Plainfield, IL, is not an hour's drive from anywhere that's 3 hr N of Milwaukee! :p
Must be! I'm talking Plainfield, WI. Gee... must be a lot of plain fields in the greater Midwest. ;)
I was driving home from the grocery store- getting potatoes and cranberry sauce for my turkey dinner. Saw this thing that looked like a small bird, sitting upright in the road. As I blew past it, it fluttered around in the wind, but didn't move or fall over. So, as I drove on, under this time pressure to get home, peel the potatoes, boil the potatoes, mash the potatoes, I made it half a mile before deciding to turn back. Sure enough, as I run out into traffic, it's a little yellow and green bird- hit by a car, but still bright eyed and fighting. I scoop him up and get in the car and rush for home, planning to call the rehab place, leave a message, bring him in. Bird is biting my thumb, painfully, and making a growling noise. When I get home, and inspect him, his wing is broken, and there is way too much blood. I am hopeful, though- all other extremities are intact, and his eyes are bright. But, as I am holding him in one hand and cutting vet wrap to immobilize the wing, he closes first one eye, then the other. I wrap him up, but he begins agonal breathing. In a minute, he is lifeless- gone. I have him wrapped in a paper towel, and for a minute, think of throwing him in the trash, but can't. I bring him out under the ancient mimosa tree and bury him, wrapped up neatly, under a cement block that lives under the tree. At least he died somewhat peacefully, instead of being smashed by a car, again.
Lise had one of those nice cathartic clean-outs today. Those are SO uplifting when you're ready for them.
Bruno28 is another on the TE list whose wit makes me laugh.
The inside of my back itches. That means I'm coming down with a cold. What a weird pre-cold symptom that is.
Where's Choco?
Oh, Nanci, that is a sad story. But you've shown why you're a premier member of Team Paloma. Both in the sense of birds, and peace. You are so loving with all of the creatures. I am sure they feel that, somehow. L.
Lava is in the shop, getting a new more mountainy rear cassette (moving up from 105 to Ultegra!) and getting her bad read shifter inspected. I hope I don'[t have to buy shifters, too. This is a very bad pay period for that.
Did I tell you I caught two snakes yesterday?? (on my ride) Both released. One baby Black Racer, one unidentified so far.
Ah, poor bird. And Nanci. I'm sorry. But glad to know you do those things.
Choco comes out every night to watch Nip/Tuck or Grey's Anatomy. He loves the same TV shows I do. I kiss him a lot. He is due for another feeding tomorrow night- keep your fingers crossed!!
And it's only just begun. Really, it began last week when I got rid of a lot of clothes. Stuff I was saving because it was "nice", or someone had given it to me...except that I didn't like it! ----->woosh!----> out it goes!Quote:

I'll probably hang onto the oil paints. I love the smell and texture of them, even if I'm not much of an artist. Probably the tubes of acrylics, too. But not all the craft stuff. I am done with that. Except my glue gun. Just used that tonight! A glue gun is a tool, like a drill. Everyone should have both.
I can't just leave them there.
I was going to say something- oh, I haven't seen Dodge Ball, but I _have_ seen Murderball. Guess which one is better...
Two four-day weeks in a row, coming up!! Then a five-day week, then a three day week! I love bike events! But I got suckered into the lunch stop at the upcoming back-to-back centuries in October- can only ride the first day.
At the volunteer dinner last night, a patient of mine was there. It was really strange. Someone who was in a horrible accident, who had a 1:500 chance of living, they said. She might be joining my group. It's so weird to see people out of context.
Burning up old mementos is very cathartic isn't it. All they make you do is harbor resentment.
No, I couldn't just leave them there either...gotta try.
Just started watching Grey's Anatomy recently and LOVE it.
Out of context sightings--I have seen fellow ballet dancers (back in that day) in public places whom I could not recognize because they had street clothes on and their hair down.
And re that memento burning stuff: I once wrote a letter to an ex that for the first time was really blunt about all the crappy stuff he did and was. Had the whole lunch-with-girlfriends-ceremonial-burning-of-letter-in-fireplace thing. Then I sent him a copy anyway. Believe me, he deserved to see it. That was 20 years ago and it still makes me laugh and I'm still absolutely glad I did it. It could only have done him good.
Yeah. They're like...mold.Quote:

Nanci - that was very kind of you to try to save that bird.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess Murderball :DQuote:

MT - You're right, it would have been sweet. But I'd probably have died in the wind. Next time...Quote:
why not? it's flat, the bike is new and sweet and light!
Lise - ah yes the therapeutic process of getting rid of old things. I recently found a box of notes and other various things from high school after we moved. I'm not sure that I'm ready to open that thing up yet and go through it :D
As for Plainfield, yeah that's far. But not impossibly far. You could compromise and meet in the middle much of the time. Or alternate. But I'm getting slightly ahead of myself :)
So I'm sick because I found that slightly humerous..Out on a limb- movie about the quadraplegic rugby team:eek:Quote:

Here's a link to the photos of the house. They're still finishing it up, so the post-construction crud is still quite evident. I hope the link works.
Wow! What a house!
Prices are so bad here, that I literally can't afford anything. Can't even get a mortgage for a trailer (cuz the land underneath it would cost too much.)
And if the apts keep raising the rent, I've got a deal with my best friend that I'm gonna come live in her garden shed.;)
Gorgeous house, Fish!

that bird story brings back some very sad memories that i have about some other animals hit by cars.. I will not share them so you guys won't suffer the flashbacks that i still have.
FishDr happy new house to you..
I hate when I find an animal- always a bird, that's still alive but quite obviously beyond repair.
I was driving to my ride meeting place Saturday morning, and there was a suicide squirrel at the side of the road, so I started gently beeping my horn at him (not like that really helps squirrels- but birds can figure it out!). Around the bend, as I was beeping, came a cyclist- he probably thought I was honking at him, like "What did I do??" Squirrel decided to go back into the yard.
Okay - my feeble attempt to catch up on TD...
Nanci - good attempt at saving the bird. Sorry he didn't make it.
Lise - Have we names this guy yet? He sounds promising. A little distance could be good - won't get crowded that way.
Knotted - glad you finally have the new bike in hand!
Kit - I'm lost - how did the interview go?
Snap - any more word on the promotion? That did sound promising
Salsa - bees are important for honey production and crop pollination. Those two things go hand in hand.
Windance - a date??????
OK - that's all I can do for now. I'll catch back with you later. I'm swamped at work trying to get all of those ducks in a row. And - now I get to shop for a fridge (for the house).
I installed his thermostat tonight, bringing the hot side of his viv down from 113F to 86F. The first thing he did when he discovered it was climb the cord!! Tonight he ate his pink with no problem! He's so precocious and smart! I can't take him out tomorrow- I will miss him so much!
My bike may be done with her surgery tomorrow...
Nanci
I get lost, too.Quote:

So Interview 3 went well. It was for an Administrative (personal) Assistant to a fairly prominant Financial Advisor. I looked good (I think) felt mostly awake, and was grounded/centered enough to answer all his questions in ways that provoked the gent to say he "liked [my] way of thinking" I'm excited about it, but after my previous experiences, I'm not really getting my hopes up too much. I like to ask a final question, something like "After speaking with you, I feel great about this position; do you have any concerns about my fitness for the job?" It gives a decent chance to counter any objections/curiosities they might have. He said, fairly enthusiastically, that he thought I'd be a great fit, and that I should hear back regarding the 2nd round of interviews. Sweet. :)
So there you have it. MWBR.
I had a bad day at work. Rephrase that. At the job. (I love my work, I hate my job) I love my patients, don't get me wrong. It's the politics that make me have conniptions.
So I broke my own rule, and spent BIKE MONEY on a bottle of red wine. Because I'm grumpy. And I need it more than the bike does. Costco. Concha Y Toro. Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. Mutt-wine.
I need to get l@id. It's been a year since I got any. Grump grump grump.
Pardon me while I have a b!tchy moment. Or three.

<self-centered narcissistic moping>
Ki-tsu-nay: I will use your final question when I go out interviewing for other jobs.
By the way, congratulations on the good interview!
Thanks! :D I can't take the credit for the question, though, it was on FAQ farm. AND, you're allowed all the b!tchy moments you need, Knotted, you deserve them.
I was bad and spent "everything else" money on my biking habit. OMG though, $120 rain jacket for $30. Couldn't believe it. I know, I'm bad. I shall be beaten, but seriously. Wow. Can't believe I lost my good biking jacket this summer, though... $30 idiot tax.
That and a semi-waterproof (originally $40) $20 trunk bag so I can go to the gym in peace without carrying everything in my backpack. I'm okay with it for shorter rides, but after doing the lats, back rows, etc, Kitsu's NOT going to be carrying ANYTHING on THOSE shoulders, thankyouverymuch.
O.m.G. Is that really adding up to $50? *hides* Bad paycheck to do that on. D'oh.
