No more tri this year
well...was strong and fit. saturday a commuter cyclist turned to see who was passing and instead of only turning his head, turned his bike and crashed into me. i went down hard. broke my helmet, collar bone, elbow, femur. doc says no compounds cause my very fit muscle mass protected bones. in wheelchair one month, and then start crutches,,,,etc etc, one hand typing. lots of pain. keeping up my spirits to heal well.

 Owie!
(((((tribogota))))) Sorry to hear you've joined the injured reserve list. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
-
Oh my goodness, that sucks!!!!!! You were sounding so ready for Alcatraz.
I guess on the bright side all that work you have put in saved you from getting hurt worse, but geez... Oh man, I'm so bummed for you. :( Where's that speechless icon? Big hugs are coming you way.

Rest and try to take care of yourself best you can.

Oh my god! I'm really sorry, Chloe. I enjoyed reading your training updates and expected you to rock Alcatraz. Next year.
-
Oh man, that sucks so much! I'm so sorry!
I was really looking forward to your performance at Alcatraz, too. Next year, right?
Heal quickly. :)
-
OMG!?!?!? Words can't describe the exclamation points I have for you right now. What a bummer! Hopefully they will let you defer your entry since Alcatraz is so hard to get into.
Hang in there, and be glad you are so fit - hard to believe, but it could have been worse, and your recovery will hopefully be accelerated, too. It's just one season, there will be more. :)
-
Oh how horrible!!!! I am so sorry. That really sucks.:(:(:(
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and you know we are all here for you!
PS maybe we should all chip in and buy the commuter a mirror for their bike....
-
I'm sorry tribogata. It must be hard to just be around home to recover.
Take your time to get better.
-
Sending you all kinds of healing vibes! What a shame, but this too shall pass. I am so sorry that it happened to you.
-
I really feel for you, I'm so sorry.
Being fit to begin with probably means that you will heal that much faster.
We will all be rooting for you and look forward to your comeback story.
Take care - sending (((((hugs))))))

Tri-
That's a lot of breakage!!! I am so sorry that you won't be able to do Alcatraz - it was your carrot. Eat well, take care of yourself and heal.
-
NO!!!! I am SOOO sorry.
My DH got hurt last year, and he healed faster than the doctor expected due to fitness too. It is awful, but we are all here to support you.
(((((((HUGS))))))))
-
Oh, how awful!!! I'm so sorry! I've really been enjoying reading your training updates for Alcatraz--that sucks that you're going to miss that this year. But I guess the bright side is that without all that training you may have been in much worse shape now. (((Hugs))) and quick healing!

So Sorry!! OWW - the femur is the most painful bone in your body to break!!
-
THANKS FOR ALL THE MESSAGES!
The other guy, well he went down with me, and looked a little worse for wear, but did get up and cycle off after some minutes of standing around.
Went to the ortho today. Looked at the xrays, kind of cool, plus it shows that I have good bone density and no early osteoperosis (am 39 and 11 mos). The bone is still in place, so NO SURGERY. It will start to fuse in about another 20 days he said, so I have 20 more days of STILL and wheelchair. The collar bone hurt a lot, but doing ok and keeping my spirits UP.
-
Glad to hear that you don't have to have surgery. :D Now just let those bones knit. Take your calcium - or injest in your favorite form. Ice cream?? (the ice cream truck just drove by.... this year's tune is "Turkey in the Straw")
Hope you get to feeling better soon. And you have a good PT clinic. ;)
-
good and bad
good news is the collar bone is healing and I can use my arm some. Bad news, I am hospitalized with deep vein thrombosis and taking anti coagulants...
all very annoying...but I guess I can't do much about it, thus the name "complication". I thought being in such good shape would make it all heal very quickly.
thanks again for all the lovely energy you are sending.
-
blech
Blech!!! :(
I hope you're out of the hospital soon!!! At least that collarbone's healing!!!
-
Hope you do heal properly, tribogota. It sounds quite difficult for you!
-
Ugh. Sorry about the clot - but glad they caught it before it caused serious damage. Hang in there!
-
Bummer. OK...dishing up some more healing vibes and sending them your way.
-
We're rooting for your recovery here, hopefully this is the worst of the bumps on the road. ;)
-
Hey, tribogota, maillotpois went through DVT a few years ago---she might have some words of advice/support if you PM her. Hang in, kiddo. It'll get better.
