there is a report button if you are so inclined.
thanks. they have over 31000 fans!:( I reported it.
I reported it while TE was down.
Report it as a hate group.
I think the best thing to do when reporting it besides the "radio button" choices there's an option below to say why you're flagging it.
Writing a note gets an automated response that they'll "look into it and might get back to you."
Just hitting the button does not. Tag this site as offensive and say why!
Done and done.
Thee agenda of this group is to incite (or at least motivate) violence towards cyclists.
No good can come of this.
I reported it with a comment. Truthfully, that frightens me. Like you said, szsz- the agenda is to incite violence and that's just terrifying...
Done and done too. I also asked my Facebook peeps to support me and report the page if they were so inclined. Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, while TE was down a friend posted it on her page and I then posted it on mine, and reported it and gave a little diatribe why I was reporting it. Though I never got an automated response, at least that I noticed anyway. But it was a really frightening idea, inciting violence like that. I sure hope they take it down. My friends said - you should read some of the comments. But I've learned that lesson the hard way, so I didn't read them. I have a good idea of the hateful things and I just didn't need to see them.
done!
Done!
Done, and put a request to report it on my Wall.
Done and I have posted in on our local bike club forum as well. Scary.
I was just having a look at some of the comments on that page. Wow those people aren't the brightest bulbs in the chandelier! Here's just two of the comments...notice the superior spelling ablilities:
"They allways on the dam ROAD!!!!!!"
"Most of them don't even use the bike lane on the left, they need to kick them off the road alltogather"
"na its better when they do decide to ride on the rode ..."
And if you then read the comments on there from other cyclists they're actually written in proper English, spelling and everything! Coincidence? I think not! ;)
Done
I reported it and then noticed a friend and fellow cyclist is a member. .. unless he had to join to make a comment???
ETA: yes that does appear to be the case.
Done and also send it to all my cycling friends.
I don't do Facebook, but I'd bet that many of those comment posters are semi-illiterate teenagers with nothing better to do at 1am in their 'rooms'.
Maybe, but I doubt it. Any time a cyclist is killed by a cager, most of the newspaper comments are along the lines of "that's a good start." These are the same people... the same ones who think it's fun to buzz us on the road. It takes several years of having a driver's license before people feel so entitled, IME.
I'm disgusted that there are so many people in the world with such backwards thinking. I reported the site and then read some of the individual posts. I reported some of the individuals that say they will run us over if they have the opportunity. This is ludicrous!! If you say you are going to kill someone simply because you disagree with something they say or do you have serious issues.
As if I don't have enough worries in my life.....now this! I just want to ride and enjoy my time here on earth. Is that too much to ask for??
Here's a suggestion from my DH. Besides complaining about people running their mouths on Facebook, if you're not already a member of LAB and/or your local/national cycling advocacy organization, JOIN! I just did. :)
Oak, that's a great idea! I reported the 'page'. It's amazing to me that people hate an entire category of people...
Considering the history of humanity, this is amazing? Reprehensible, yes. Amazing... sadly, no.
BleeckerSt_Girl: The few photos I saw on the page appeared to be of large men and pickup trucks. I hate to stereotype because that leads to the sort of behavior Ginny refers to, but it's possible that the "semi-literate" part might still apply.
While I certainly don't like comments of the run-them-over type, I try to let them just pass as expressions of annoyance and nothing more. We've all fantasised at some point about doing something mean or vicious (surely it's not only me... :o ) to people we really dislike or in situations that we hate. And when talking with people who agree with us it's not that unusual to voice those fantasies either.
I did get pretty scared though when I read a blog with a girl bragging about how she had intentionally run into a cyclist a while ago, to teach him a lesson. There are a few people who will purposely endanger cyclists, but I'm pretty sure not by far as many as those who want to talk about doing so.
Those of you that do facebook might consider becoming a fan of the Share the Road page
Thanks for the link, Jobob.
Reported it a week ago because Blackbottoms cycling wear "tweeted" this as a hate group. I clicked on the link and reported them as promoting violence towards cyclists. Hopefully Facebook takes action. Thanks to all the vigilant protectors everywhere. :)
While I passionately disagree with the overall opinion of that group, I have also learned that even idiots and complete morons are entitled to their completely assinine opinion(s).
When someone acts like an ***, I say a silent "thank you" for the "truth in advertizing".
Once someone has been a jerk, I have all the facts I need to make my decisions about how I interact with them.
I agree that good old boy ***-a-holes are welcome to express their opinion in this here U S of A--god bless the first amendment!--but I take issue with their violent vibe (look at the group's photo of the cyclist being "doored" and what they are "about": "My car is hard, and i am not slowing down!")Quote:

Facebook apparently agrees with you, as they are still going strong (over 1000 more new members since OP posted it). I say we all join and sabotage! Check out their info page--it appears folks are doing exactly that.
A few years ago in Fort Collins, there was a rash of 'doorings' until a cyclist got seriously hurt... then is all quietly stopped. It seems to me that as long as a cyclist is an 'image' (perhaps a 'dork' in spandex or some other irritating 'symbol') that some types find it fun to harass and hurt us. When it becomes clear (i.e someone ends up in the hospital) that the 'symbol' is human just like the those who are taunting, the bullies wake up and go harass a different group for a while.
I joined and was going to post the quote in my signature, but then decided it probably wasn't worth it after all.
OK, I'll admit that I have a Facebook account, but I know zero about how to navigate and "use" Facebook. I've been looking everywhere for a "report" button and can't find it. How do I report?
negative publicity and negative attention is still attention... exactly what he/she wants. best policy if you don't like what he says on there... ignore him.
Don't think that this "fan page" is just simple venting. Don't think FB doesn't influence people to violence. We had several kids beat up at a local middle school a few weeks ago on "National Kick a Ginger Day." And FB isn't just populated by middle schoolers with nothing better to do. It's mostly adults.
I reported the page as well but someone pointed out to me that Facebook has not shut down the group that denies the holocaust happened so maybe they won't care much about hatred against cyclists either. I think we should continue to report tho.
THe page I got to had some rather dated posts. Is it really that active a group? (I'd hate to revive it if it's dying a natural death)
Yeah, I reported it, but I don't think it's necessary. Most of the posts lately are from cyclists telling the others that they are stupid and can be arrested. I think the cyclists have taken over the anti-cyclists. It's kind of funny to read the newer posts.
Thanks for the heads up this needs to be pulled off Facebook.
